Houston has suddenly become a program that everyone is looking at and not in a good way…more below.
Things are not going as hoped in their new coach’s first season.

North Texas has a great chance to beat an instate program. They do not get a lot of those.
Houston Cougars
Houston started the season with a lot of optimism – new coach, Heisman sleeper at QB, maybe even a chance at an AAC title.
We are just four games in and it has all come apart rather quickly, the latest setback being the decision by QB D’Eriq King to redshirt himself. I am all for kids doing what is in their best interest but this is an an interesting development.
Houston was going to have to win with offense this season even with King so without him it will be interesting to see how things go. He was the team’s leading rusher too.
This is going to be a big test for new coach Dana Holgorsen. He has coached up lots of quarterbacks but I can’t imagine the circumstances have been like this before.

Houston still has talent so the question is whether this has created a buying opportunity or whether they are going to fall flat as expected. Sometimes there are over reactions to these things.
North Texas Mean Green
North Texas may have a couple of losses but they are both on the road and to good teams in SMU and Cal. They are primed to compete in Conference USA this season and this is another good test, this time at home.
Mason Fine was sharp last week and happy to play a team without a real defense after Cal beat them up. He gives them a big advantage at the position now that King is not playing for Houston.
Defense is not a strength for North Texas but the job is a little easier with King to contend with. I am not expecting them to turn into Alabama but they get an advantage on that side as Houston is scrambling a little.
I like this North Texas team and I like that they got a win to get their confidence back after a couple of losses. I just with the oddsmakers were a little kinder with their number.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick
North Texas is not used to being a favourite in games like this so this could be a test of composure for the Mean Green.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Over 59
Given that it is tough to handicap the side with such a strong unknown on the Houston side I am going to suggest the over. North Texas will move the ball and get their points.
For the Cougars this will be a nice test of Holgorsen quite early in his tenure. He always could coach offense and I don’t see him getting dumb overnight. .
