The Georgia Southern Eagles come soaring into their game this weekend against the Troy Trojans, and the road team lands as favorites in this contest on Saturday.
The Eagles are not only riding a 4-game win streak, but their big win over Appalachian State on Halloween night has given this team even more confidence as they look for win #6 on the season. With a few extra days to prepare for this game, the line setters have put the Eagles at -3 in expectation of another win to extend the winning streak to 5 games.
Troy has certainly had a disappointing 2019 campaign, and at 3 – 5 the Trojan faithful will fill the stands for homecoming this weekend hoping to help turn the season in the right direction.
Remember now, both of these teams won 10 games a season ago and Troy has won no less than 10 games over the last 3 years. That makes this about as much of a must-win scenario the Trojans could be in with only 4 games left in the regular season.

Georgia Southern Eagles
It is not difficult to see why people are taking Georgia Southern seriously this season. At 6 – 3, you do see who those 3 losses have come against, right? LSU, Minnesota and the Cajuns have been the responsible parties for those Ls, and those are some pretty damn good programs in 2019.
So, to make another little statement, the Eagles took down Appalachian State for a second straight season on Halloween which gave them a few extra days for this trip to Troy, Alabama. What a game it was too, by the way, and if you missed that win on Halloween, you must have kids or something! Sorry! LOL
Seriously though, that was quite the effort and that win could be huge should they and App State be tied with one conference loss holding that heads-up win over the Mountaineers.
Regardless, the job is to not look behind and find a way to finish the season strong to not let all of this effort go to waste. The Eagles don’t exactly have a cupcake schedule to finish conference play either, so this game is certainly one that head coach Chad Lunsford wants to take.
Troy has taken wins in the last 2 meetings between these programs, but as I said, this is a Trojan team having a down season in 2019. I mean Georgia State is favored this weekend, and that probably has the Trojans fired up to go out and shut everyone up.
Well, we know what the Eagles plan is this weekend, and I am going on a limb here. They might run the ball a time or two, just sayin’.
I think the starting QB having Shai Werts and those 195 passing yards on the entire season gives a little hint of how much the ball hits the air for the Eagles. It ain’t much, as Werts has only completed 23 of his 48 pass attempts, but he hasn’t thrown the ball to the other team, at least.
Here are the only words you will hear repeatedly on Saturday when this game is live on ESPN+. J.D King up the gut for 6 yards; J.D King outside for 4 yards; J.D King for … a lot of damn times, okay!
I mean dude is toting the rock a whole bunch this season and it is working for the most part. Despite his 4.4 yards per carry, he has run the ball 128 times for only 526 yards, which really isn’t a ton for that amount of carries.
Then the kicker of the stats comes into play. Wesley Kennedy III, Matt LaRoche, and Logan Wright have all gone over the 50 carries mark already. This team has amassed 2,154 yards on the ground in 2019 which has this running game ranked 7th in the land putting up 269.4 YPG. Obviously, 130th out of 130 teams in passing is something they are simply okay with.

Troy Trojans
The Trojans have lost 4 of their last 5 games and the loss to Coastal Carolina last time out really hurt. The 36 – 35 loss to the Chanticleers gave Coastal their first conference win of the season, and it left the Trojans at 3 – 5 with desperation starting to sink in.
Let’s face one big fact and let you sit on it. Troy might not win another football game in 2019! Hmm hmm, I said that and when you look at who the Trojans have left to play it is easy to wonder where the wins will come from.
Troy is a home dog this weekend, and they have Texas State, Louisiana and App State left to play. Okay, let’s give them the W next weekend against the Bobcats to be fair, but that still leaves this team out of a bowl after 3 straight 10 win campaigns.
Head Coach Chip Lindsey took over this season hoping to build on what was in the cupboard, but the cupboard might be in need of some new hardware!
Trojan QB Kaleb Barker is having a decent final campaign with Troy as he is just under 2,500 passing yards for the year with a 21 – 6 TDD to INT ratio. The 18 sacks tell us that the O-line needs to get their shit together and quickly because absence from the post-season will have everyone questioning the ability of Lindsey to prepare the troops for battle.
Barker leads the 11th ranked passing offense in the nation that tosses up 317 YPG, but the 147 rushing yards per game has the Trojans back in 86th in the rankings in rushing.
DK Billingsley has done most of the damage out of the Trojan backfield this year, as he has dragged in 616 yards on 114 carries and 7 trips to the end zone.
Then can we talk about the defensive issues? A lot of them to discuss, in fact too many to even bother you with. Let’s just say that 32.6 PPG allowed will land you at 107th out of 130 teams in FBS in scoring defense and now we move to the prediction.
