Starting week 1 with a big in-state rival. N.C. State opens the year at home and they are looking for a 1-0 start to the season. The Pirates have a new head coach this season in Mike Houston. This matchup will be the Pirates only game against a Power Five team.
Expect the Wolfpack’s defensive front to be killer. Their is enough talent on the defense for a good rotation to dominate against a mediocre ECU offensive front.
East Carolina Pirates
The Pirates used to be one of my favourites in games like this. A team that could put a scare into an unsuspecting ACC team. They did beat North Carolina last season but I am not sure there is much to expect in this spot.

ECU still flings the ball around pretty well. About midway through the season last year they switched to Holton Ahlers and even though he is not too accurate; he does not turn the ball over…and he can run. He is exciting and a great hope for the future.
ECU should have a few moments where their offense will look effective. It should be a balanced offensive game plan that shows off more of a running game. Might even hit on a couple plays, but will not be enough when its all said and done.
NC State Wolfpack
NC State has always been good early in the season under Dave Doreen. Coach Doreen has been with six teams and for the months of August and September he has a record of 21-4.
The Wolfpack are coming off a 8-3 season. This will be the 30th meeting between the two. Wolfpack lead the series 16-13. Surprisingly ECU has won the last three meetings.

Look for the Wolfpack to get out to an early lead and not look back this game could be a blow out.
NC State is far from elite but this is a game they should cruise through and win. Kind of like a gift for the fans who can tailgate like crazy and not have to worry if they are going to miss much. Offensively and defensively they should be in control.

Free Week 1 NCAA Football Pick
17 is a lot of points but as long as the coach can get real effort in this one it should not be a problem. Look for points to come freely in this game as it could be a high scoring game.
Last time these two squared off NC State was favored by 23. As well as this time around the total was five points lower.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: NC State -17 (small lean over 55)
While I like the home side I think the total is even more appealing. Sophmore Matt McKay will look to start the season off a good note in this home game.
Ultimately look for NC State to methodically control the game but both sides to put up numbers
