The Clemson Tigers will travel north to Winston-Salem and take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons from Truist Field this Saturday on ABC. Clemson will open as the six-point favorites on the road, with the total opening at 55.
HISTORY: Clemson and Wake Forest have been rivals, dating all the way back to their time as Southern Conference rivals. The two Carolina programs have crossed paths in nearly every season since 1933, with the Tigers holding an overwhelming 69-17 series lead.
Clemson Tigers
Clemson is off to a much better start here in 2022 then last year. The Tigers opened the season with an ACC win over Georgia Tech, and covered the huge 24-point spread. Clemson then welcomed Furman for their home opener, before hosting LA Tech last Saturday in Death Valley.
Last weekend, Clemson defeated Louisiana Tech, 48-30, missing their second straight blowout margin by a mile.
DJ Uiagalelei’s summer improvements have shown early. The junior quarterback has shown much more command and confidence in the system, and he’s protected the football. This road bout will really put his growth to the test, as Wake gave him a lot of trouble at home last season.
Uiagaelei has thrown for 662 yards with five touchdowns to one interception, and he’s rushed for 117 yards and a score through the first three games.
Will Shipley appears to be coming into his own after an early season injury altered the highly touted back’s freshman season. Shipley has scored twice in each game this season, and he got loose against Louisiana Tech, rushing 139 yards on just 12 touches. Shipley has gained 249 rushing yards and scored six touchdowns through the first three weeks.
Beau Collins and Antonio Williams lead the team with nine catches early. Collins, a sophomore wideout, leads the team with 158 receiving yards and he’s scored in each of the first three games. Williams caught the first touchdown of his career in the win over the Bulldogs, and he’s gained 133 yards.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake Forest survived a regional non-conference slate and jumped out to a 3-0 start. The Demon Deacons hosted VMI in the opener, and covered the 34-point margin right on the head. Wake then traveled to Nashville and defeated Vanderbilt by 20. Dave Clawson’s group returned home and hosted a hungry, up and coming program eager to make school history last Saturday.
Last weekend, Wake Forest avoided disaster and took down Liberty at home, 37-36, failing to cover for the first time this season.
Wake handled business in their opener, but when they got word Sam Hartman could return, it put playoff aspirations on their season. Hartman was phenomenal during Wake’s 11-win 2021 season, and he’s one of the most experienced leaders in the country. The fifth-year senior brings 35 games of experience to the position, and if there’s anyone who can pull this off, it’s him.
Hartman has thrown for 625 passing yards with seven touchdowns to two interceptions in his first two starts.
Wake couldn’t get the run game going last weekend, and that will have to improve with a physical Clemson team coming to town. Christian Turner and Justice Ellison have split touches early, with the former leading the team with 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Ellison has 113 yards, and he scored in the win over Liberty.
A.T. Perry is a stud, and his return gives Wake one of the best receivers in the country. After breaking out and recording 1,166 yards in his third season, Perry leads the team in receiving after a 5-catch, 142-yard performance against Vandy. Taylor Morin leads Wake Forest in receptions (13), while Donavon Greene is second on the team in catches (12) and yards (184),

Free Week 4 NCAA Football Final Analysis:
Wake Forest finds themselves in an interesting spot. Dave Clawson’s team has the talent to win this game outright, but the seven-point spread feels right here. Clemson is a bit better than they were last season, but with the jury still out on DJ Uiagalelei, we want to trust the arm and aura of Sam Hartman here. If Wake shows up, stops the run and forces Uiagalelei to beat them, they have a good shot of pulling this off. Truist Field will be their best friend in this one.
Wake’s got a good shot to win this game, but spot them the points here for their ACC opener.
