Sun Devils vs. Red Raiders Gameday
The Arizona State Sun Devils visit the No. 10 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Galaxy Stadium in Lubbock. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET on FOX. The last two Big 12 champions meet in an important early-season conference showdown.
Kenny Dillingham’s Sun Devils are 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play. Arizona State enters following a nonconference victory over Hawaii.
The Sun Devils are still looking for their first true road victory.
Arizona State brings a dangerous passing game, but Texas Tech has been considerably more consistent across the board.
Joey McGuire’s Red Raiders are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Texas Tech has won all three of its home games this season.
The Red Raiders return from their bye week for Homecoming. They are seeking consecutive 6-0 starts for the first time in program history. Another victory would strengthen their position among the Big 12’s leading contenders.
It’s Week 7, Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Red Raiders Stats
Texas Tech has scored 174 points through five games, averaging nearly 35 per contest. The Red Raiders have produced 1,137 passing yards and 895 rushing yards. Their offensive balance has helped them remain unbeaten despite several competitive first halves.
J’Koby Williams leads the rushing attack with 373 yards and three TD’s. Kenny Johnson leads the receivers with 298 yards and one TD.
Williams provides a dependable alternative when opponents concentrate on defending the pass.
Texas Tech’s defense has controlled opposing running games while creating turnovers at an impressive rate.
The Red Raiders have allowed 81 points through five games. Their defense has recorded 11 sacks, nine interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Opponents have rushed for only 457 yards against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders have not surrendered a rushing TD this season.
Running back Cameron Dickey suffered a leg injury against Colorado. The Red Raiders have also dealt with availability concerns elsewhere on the roster. McGuire needs dependable depth to maintain the team’s physical approach against Arizona State.
Sun Devils Stats
Arizona State has experienced significant swings in offensive production through five games. The Sun Devils have demonstrated explosive scoring ability against weaker competition but struggled against more physical opponents. Their biggest challenge has been sustaining drives when the running game stalls.
Kyson Brown leads the ground attack with 290 yards and one TD. Cardae Mack has contributed 214 yards and two TD’s.
Mack’s versatility gives Arizona State another option when defenses concentrate on its passing attack.
The Sun Devils have struggled to prevent explosive plays in their two defeats. Their defense has been vulnerable when opponents establish an effective rushing attack.
Cornerback Lyrik Rawls and linebacker Zyrus Fiaseu have dealt with injuries. Their availability affects depth at two important defensive positions.
Arizona State has also faced personnel concerns along its offensive line. Those issues make an already difficult road assignment more demanding. Dillingham needs cleaner execution and better tackling to challenge Texas Tech.
Sun Devils vs. Red Raiders QB Matchup
Texas Tech QB Will Hammond has thrown for 1,102 yards through five games. He has five TD passes and five interceptions. His ability to extend plays adds another dimension to the Red Raiders’ offense.
Hammond has completed 97 of 142 passes this season. He has moved the football effectively but needs to eliminate the mistakes that have interrupted promising drives.
His decision-making remains the biggest concern in an otherwise productive offense.
Arizona State QB Cutter Boley has thrown for 1,229 yards through five games. He has 12 TD passes against three interceptions. His downfield accuracy gives the Sun Devils an opportunity to challenge aggressive coverage.
Boley has attempted 158 passes this season. His passing production has been one of Arizona State’s most dependable offensive strengths.
Texas Tech will test how quickly he recognizes pressure and adjusts his reads.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Hammond has the benefit of a more dependable defense behind him. Boley has carried a greater share of Arizona State’s scoring responsibility.
Texas Tech has used Thomas Castellanos in limited action this season. Hammond remains the established starter entering Saturday.
Arizona State must protect Boley long enough to attack coverage downfield. Texas Tech needs Hammond to avoid forcing throws into crowded passing lanes. The quarterback who handles pressure better will have an important advantage.
Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders bottom line: Texas Tech’s physical defense presents Arizona State with a difficult test, while Hammond’s ball security remains the Red Raiders’ biggest offensive concern.
Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders Football Betting Trends
- Arizona State is 4-1 on the Over/Under after a win in their last 5 games.
- Also, Arizona State has covered the spread in 11 of their last 17 away games.
- Texas Tech is 12-0 straight up in their last 12 home games.
- Texas Tech is 18-1 straight up as a favorite in their last 19 games.
- Additionally, Texas Tech has covered the spread in 13 of their last 18 games after a win.
- Texas Tech is 3-1 on the Over/Under in their last 4 games after a win.
Sun Devils Red Raiders Free Pick: Texas Tech -14.5
Here is my Sun Devils Red Raiders free pick: I’m betting Texas Tech -14.5. That’s a big number, but Arizona State has already shown how quickly things can unravel against stronger competition. I don’t see the Sun Devils suddenly fixing those problems in Lubbock. Texas Tech has covered 13 of its last 18 games following a win, and the Red Raiders have won 11 straight at home.
Those trends support laying the points, although I need more than a winning streak to justify two touchdowns and the hook.
The deciding factor is how Texas Tech responds when Arizona State makes a mistake.
Give this Red Raiders team extra possessions and a two-score lead can become three scores in a hurry.
I’m looking for Texas Tech to establish control before halftime and keep Arizona State chasing. The Sun Devils cannot afford to trade punts while the Red Raiders keep improving their field position.
A comfortable straight-up victory isn’t enough for this bet.
Texas Tech has had an extra week to prepare, and I expect McGuire to have his team ready to attack rather than spend the afternoon protecting a narrow lead. Arizona State has enough talent to land a few punches, but I don’t trust the Sun Devils to absorb four quarters of pressure without giving something away. My money is on TT -14.5, with the Raiders turning this into a double-digit beating before the final whistle.
