Crimson Tide vs. Volunteers Gameday
The No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide visit the No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET on ABC. The Third Saturday in October rivalry arrives with both teams holding 5-1 records.
Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide are 3-1 in SEC play and undefeated in two road games. Alabama is looking to recover from its first defeat of the season.
The Tide remain in contention for the conference championship.
Alabama has the offensive advantage, but Tennessee’s defense and Neyland Stadium make this a difficult road assignment.
Josh Heupel’s Volunteers are 2-1 in conference play and 3-1 at home. Tennessee has won two consecutive games following its only loss.
Both teams have plenty at stake beyond bragging rights. Alabama cannot afford another conference setback, while Tennessee has an opportunity to strengthen its postseason position. Neither program needs reminding what this rivalry means.
It’s Week 7, Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Tennessee Volunteers, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Volunteers Stats
Tennessee has scored 208 points through six games, averaging nearly 35 per contest. The Volunteers have rushed for 1,370 yards, averaging better than 228 per game. Their offense has become increasingly dependent on establishing the ground attack.
DeSean Bishop leads the rushing game with 678 yards and eight TD’s. His ability to find cutback lanes has made him Tennessee’s most dependable offensive weapon.
The Volunteers need Bishop to produce against Alabama’s physical defensive front.
Tennessee can run the football, but its protection problems make obvious passing situations dangerous.
The Volunteers have allowed 93 points through six games. Their defense has recorded 25 sacks and five interceptions.
Mike Matthews leads the receiving corps with 396 yards and three TD’s. Braylon Staley provides another experienced option downfield.
Tight end Ethan Davis and linebacker Jaedon Harmon are unavailable. Those absences affect depth on opposite sides of the football. Heupel needs his remaining personnel to maintain Tennessee’s physical approach against Alabama.
Crimson Tide Stats
Alabama has scored 265 points through six games, averaging better than 44 per contest. The Tide have produced 1,622 passing yards and 1,095 rushing yards. Their offense has demonstrated the ability to score through either phase.
Trae’shawn Brown leads the running backs with 301 rushing yards and five TD’s. His production gives Alabama another option when opponents concentrate on defending the pass.
The Tide need dependable blocking to establish their rushing attack against Tennessee.
Alabama has allowed 124 points through six games. Its defense has recorded 17 sacks, nine interceptions and five fumble recoveries.
Leading receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams is out after suffering an injury against Georgia. Starting center Racin Delgatty is questionable, adding another concern along the offensive line.
Defensive linemen Jeremiah Beaman and Terrance Green are also sidelined. Those injuries place additional responsibility on Alabama’s available interior defenders. DeBoer needs his defensive rotation to hold up against Tennessee’s rushing attack.
Crimson Tide vs. Volunteers QB Matchup
Tennessee QB George MacIntyre is expected to make his second consecutive start against Alabama. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 247 yards against Arkansas. MacIntyre threw one TD and two interceptions in that victory.
MacIntyre has taken over while Faizon Brandon deals with a shoulder injury. His experience is limited, but he has shown enough command of the offense to receive another starting opportunity.
The challenge becomes considerably tougher against Alabama’s defense.
Brandon remains questionable after increasing his practice participation. He has thrown for 697 yards and seven TD’s this season.
Alabama QB Keelon Russell has thrown for 1,599 yards through six games. He has 12 TD passes against two interceptions. His production has been central to Alabama’s offensive success.
Russell has completed 110 of 162 passes, connecting on nearly 68% of his attempts. He has also contributed 225 rushing yards and four TD’s.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Russell has the advantage in experience and production. MacIntyre must demonstrate he can handle Alabama’s defensive pressure without forcing dangerous throws.
Alabama reserve Austin Mack has attempted four passes for 23 yards. Tennessee could also use Brandon if his shoulder improves enough for him to participate.
Russell needs to recognize Tennessee’s pressure packages and get the football out quickly. MacIntyre must avoid allowing Alabama to dictate obvious passing situations. The quarterback who protects the football better will give his team a major advantage.
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Tennessee Volunteers bottom line: Alabama’s passing attack presents Tennessee with a difficult assignment, while the Volunteers need their running game to protect an inexperienced quarterback.

Crimson Tide Volunteers Free Pick: Alabama -8.5
Here is my Crimson Tide Volunteers free pick: I’m betting Alabama -8.5. That’s a serious number to lay in Knoxville, but Tennessee’s biggest problem is its inability to recover when an opponent takes control of the game. Alabama has the offensive firepower to put the Volunteers in that position.
My biggest concern with Tennessee is what happens when the Vols fall behind by 10 or 14 points. They can’t afford to spend the afternoon chasing Alabama, and their offense isn’t built to erase a substantial deficit quickly.
That makes the opening quarter particularly important.
Alabama doesn’t need to dominate every possession; it needs to establish a lead Tennessee isn’t equipped to overcome.
I’m also looking at the difference in scoring potential once these teams cross midfield. Alabama has more ways to finish drives, and the Tide should be willing to attack on early downs rather than settle into a conservative road-game approach.
Field goals won’t get my money home at this number.
DeBoer knows another SEC loss would put Alabama in a difficult position, and I expect an aggressive response after Georgia. Tennessee will have its moments, especially with that crowd behind it, but the Vols need too many things to go right to stay within one possession. I’ll lay Alabama -8.5 and trust the Tide to make the Vols play from behind.
