Dowell Loggains’ Mountaineers enter at 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. App State has dropped two straight games after opening the season with three victories.
The Mountaineers need a conference breakthrough.
App State needs to stop its slide, while Coastal Carolina has a chance to extend its rivalry winning streak.
Ryan Beard’s Chanticleers are 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the Sun Belt. Coastal snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend.
App State is making its first trip outside North Carolina this season. The Mountaineers have lost three consecutive visits to Conway. Friday offers an opportunity to change that pattern.

Singleton’s availability is the risk I won’t ignore.
App State’s defense gives the Mountaineers a realistic path to winning even if the offense isn’t at full strength.
The Mountaineers are also 8-6 ATS following a loss. That’s useful support, but turnovers and field position are the real keys here.
Coastal cannot count on another game loaded with takeaways.
I’ll accept the QB uncertainty at this price, but I wouldn’t be interested in laying a TD. App State has enough defensive playmakers to keep the margin within reach.
