Alex Mortensen’s Blazers are 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the American. They’ve won all three games at Protective Stadium.
Both programs are trying to establish themselves in the conference race. ECU has momentum, while UAB has a chance to respond after a difficult road outing. Neither coach should need a motivational speech longer than halftime.

That makes every ECU scoring opportunity a little more important.
Four quarters can disappear quickly when the clock keeps moving.
I’m betting UAB can dictate enough of the tempo to keep this spread uncomfortable for the favorite.
UAB has also shown a tendency toward higher-scoring games after losses, which gives the Blazers another way to compete. A few productive possessions could force ECU to chase the scoreboard instead of controlling it.
There’s risk if the Blazers fall behind early. Their offense isn’t built for a desperate passing contest, and that could get ugly in a hurry.
Patience will matter more than trying to win the game on one snap.
My college football betting system doesn’t demand an outright upset when the number already offers value. I’ll take a competitive fourth quarter and let the favorite sweat for a change. ECU may leave Birmingham with the win. Fine by me, because I’m buying the points.
