As it turned out, the team never really made it past that adjustment period, going just 2-10 on the year and finding a way to drop all nine Pac-12 conference contests.
2016 Oregon State Beavers Predictions: Team Strengths
Although it’s too early to tell if this is truly a strength, there’s growing optimism for this team’s offense with the move of Seth Collins to wide receiver.

The fan favorite was set to transfer after his first season as quarterback, but his decision to return gives this group an athletic playmaker on the outside — one who will likely be used in the jet sweep sets we’ve seen from this group in the past despite being under a different coaching regime.
The good news for Oregon State is that Collins isn’t going to be the only productive receiver.
Jordan Villamin racked up 660 yards last season and had five scores. Caleb Smith has also been productive with nine touchdowns on 48 catches throughout his career.
Getting these guys confidence early in the year is going to be a huge key for the Beavers.
Their passing game was horrible last season, and now the wide receivers will be tasked with the unfair expectations of helping yet another new quarterback get used to the system.
2016 Oregon State Beavers Predictions: Team Weaknesses
As exciting as Seth Collins was to watch run around the field last season, that simply can’t be a quarterback’s best attribute.
On the year, he tossed for just six touchdowns and 935 yards with four interceptions, which is why getting a new quarterback in place could really be counted as a strength.

The catch, of course, is that it’s yet another guy hoping to help the Beavers start over. That lucky guy is Utah State transfer Darrell Garretson.
Aside from the passing attack, Oregon State also found difficulties on defense.
The guys in the secondary gave up 8.3 yards per pass last year, which was only better than one Pac-12 team.
The run defense was even worst, claiming the last-place spot by allowing 225.5 rushing yards each week on 5.1 yards per rush attempt.
Oregon State Beavers 2016 Prediction: (4-8)
Odds are, Oregon State will be better than they were last season. The catch is that this is likely going to be an indictment on how putrid they were last season and less of a testament to their ability to compete this year.
Although predicting a one- or two-win campaign isn’t unreasonable, we’ll give the Beavers the benefit of the doubt that new QB Garretson used his transfer year to familiarize himself with his new conference.

Four wins isn’t anything to get excited about in the Pac-12, but it will be a step in the right direction for this group looking to finally form a new identity.
