05-23-17 | Rockies -119 v. Phillies | 8-2 | Win | 100 | 17 h 39 m | Show
I'm backing the Rockies on Tuesday with Marquez over Eflin. Â Colorado won again last night to improve to 16-7 on the road and it was its sixth win its last eight games overall. The Phillies have lost 18 of their last 22 games, including their last three in a row. They'll be facing German Marquez for the first time and the right-hander is coming off two strong starts allowing one run and seven hits in 13 innings against the Cubs and Twins. Â Marquez has given up one run in 11 innings on the road this season. Â Zach Eflin's string of quality starts came to an abrupt end when the Rangers scored seven runs on 11 hits in the first four innings against Eflin on Wednesday. Philadelphia has lost Eflin's last four starts as he has given up 29 hits his last three starts in 17 innings. Â The Phillies have lost 41 of their last 60 games versus right-handed starters. I'm backing the Rockies, our Situational Beatdown on Tuesday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |

05-22-17 | Pirates -119 v. Braves | Top | 2-5 | Loss | -119 | 16 h 47 m | Show |
I'm backing the Pirates with Cole over Foltynewicz. Â Pittsburgh swept the Braves in a three-game series in April and the Pirates have won six of their last eight overall following a 1-0 win over the Phillies on Sunday. Â Atlanta comes off a 3-2 loss to Washington and will be without Freddie Freeman until August due to a broken wrist. Â Gerrit Cole has not given up more than two earned runs his last seven starts and beat the Nationals 6-1 while allowing a run and three hits in seven innings on Wednesday. Â Cole has a 1.59 ERA in five night games this season and he has walked only 12 batters the entire season. Â Mike Foltynewicz faced the Pirates on April 7 and didn't make it through the fourth inning and last year against Pittsburgh, Foltynewicz gave up 10 runs and 11 hits in 8 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh has won 15 of the last 21 meetings and we believe they'll make it 6 straight against ATL tonight. Â I'm backing the Pirates, our NL Knockout GOW. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
05-21-17 | Rangers -126 v. Tigers | Top | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 18 h 47 m | Show |
I'm backing the Rangers on Sunday night. Â Texas had its 10-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, but its has a good chance of starting a new one with Yu Darvish on the mound on Sunday night. Â Darvish is 6-0 with a 3.46 ERA in six starts against the Tigers in his career and he'll be facing a lineup without Victor Martinez, who is on paternity leave, and possibly Ian Kinsler, who is questionable with hamstring tightness. Â The Rangers have won Darvish's last five starts, including 5-1 over the Phillies on Tuesday when he allowed a run on four hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Â Meanwhile, Matt Boyd was shelled in his last start against Baltimore as he gave up seven runs on eight hits in just 2 1/3 innings and Detroit has lost his last four starts. Boyd is 1-3 with a 5.24 ERA in four career starts against the Rangers. Texas has won seven of the last eight meetings at Detroit. Â I'm backing the Rangers, our Sunday Knockout. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-21-17 | Diamondbacks -113 v. Padres | 1-5 | Loss | -113 | 14 h 24 m | Show
I'm backing the Diamondbacks on Sunday with Godley over Richard. Â Arizona apparently has conquered its hitting woes on the road scoring 19 runs in two blowout wins over the Padres. Â Zack Godley will make his fourth start and he has allowed only four runs on nine hits in 18 2/3 innings this season with 19 strikeouts while giving up just one home run. Â Clayton Richard is 2-5 with a 4.86 ERA and San Diego has lost his last three starts by a combined score of 21-6. Â Richard gave up six runs on 10 hits in six innings his last outing against Milwaukee and he has a 6.08 ERA at home. Â The Padres are in last place in the NL West and 8-14 at home and they have lost 20 of their last 27 games overall. Â The Diamondbacks have won five straight overall and five of the last six meetings with San Diego this season. Â We're backing the Diamondbacks, our Road Warrior. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-20-17 | Phillies v. Pirates -123 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 8 h 20 m | Show |
I'm backing the Pirates with Nova over Velasquez on Saturday. Â The Phillies won 7-2 on Friday night, but they still are just 7-16 on the road and now face Ivan Nova, who has a 2.48 ERA this season and has allowed more than three earned runs only once in eight starts. Nova is 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA at home giving up only four earned runs in 19 innings with 12 strikeouts and one walk. The Phillies are 3-13 in Vince Velasquez's last 16 starts dating to last season and they have lost 15 of their last 19 games overall. Â Velasquez has allowed nine runs (eight earned) and 12 hits his last two starts covering 12 innings and he threw 100 pitches in just five innings his last outing at Washington. Â Pittsburgh has won four of its last six games overall and 15 of the last 22 meetings with Philadelphia. Â Look for Pittsburgh to bounce back from last night's loss. We're backing the Pirates on Saturday. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-19-17 | Giants v. Cardinals -143 | Top | 6-5 | Loss | -143 | 16 h 12 m | Show |
I'm backing the St. Louis Cardinals with Michael Wacha over Matt Moore. Â SFO starting pitcher Matt Moore's home/road dichotomy is about as great as you're going to find. Â Moore has been solid at AT&T Park, but he's been a disaster everywhere else. Â The Giants have dropped all four of his road starts where he has a huge 10.50 ERA, 2.17 WHIP, and .370 BAA to go along with a 2.00 HR's/9 IP mark. Â This is nothing different for Moore, who finished with a 6.94 road ERA two seasons ago and a 5.02 ERA in 2016. The Giants have lost five straight road starts with Moore on the mound and they have won just three of their last 16 roadies against RH, overall. Â Tonight, SFO faces RH Michael Wacha who comes in well rested. Â Wacha has been given extra time off in an attempt to keep him healthy later in the season. Â As for the early portion of the 2017 campaign, Wacha owns a 34:9 K/BB mark in 36 2/3 IP with a sizzling 1.15 WHIP. His numbers are even better at home and he has a 1.88 ERA & 1.08 WHIP in four starts against the Giants over the last few seasons. The Redbirds are 13-3 in the right-handers last 16 home starts. Finally, the Giants are just 1-10 on the road against RH this season, averaging just 3.2 rpg. Â I'm backing the St. Louis Cardinals, our Friday Heavy Hitter. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-18-17 | Blue Jays -115 v. Braves | 9-0 | Win | 100 | 17 h 1 m | Show
I'm backing the Toronto Blue Jays with Stroman over Teheran on Thursday. Atlanta has a brand new stadium in SunTrust Park, but so far it hasn't been kind to Julio Teheran, who is 1-3 with an 8.14 ERA at home this season with opposing hitters batting .310 against him. Â Teheran has allowed a staggering 19 runs (all earned) on 27 hits in 21 innings in the new park while walking 12 batters. Â Marcus Stroman has pitched well in four of his last five starts, including a 7-2 win against Seattle on Saturday when he gave up two runs with nine strikeouts in six innings. Â Atlanta has won the first three games of this home-and-home series, but the Braves still have lost 17 of Teheran's last 22 home starts no matter which stadium and Atlanta is 4-14 its last 18 interleague home games. Look for Toronto to salvage the last game of this four-game set. Â I'm backing the Blue Jays, our Heavy Hitter. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-18-17 | Orioles -116 v. Tigers | Top | 5-6 | Loss | -116 | 11 h 40 m | Show |
I'm backing the Baltimore Orioles with Bundy over Zimmerman. Â Dylan Bundy has quality starts in all of his eight appearances this season and the Orioles have won six of them. Â Bundy is 5-1 with a 2.26 ERA with an opponent batting average of .224 and has issued only 12 walks in 51 2/3 innings. Jordan Zimmermann appears to be one of those pitchers who are great in the National League but can't compete in the A.L. Â Zimmermann had one good month (April) in his first season with the Tigers last year and ended 2016 with a 4.87 ERA. Â This year the right-hander has a 6.28 ERA and comes off a 7-0 loss at the Angels when he allowed five runs (four earned) and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Â Detroit won 5-4 on Wednesday, but Baltimore still has won six of the last nine meetings overall and five of the last seven at Detroit. Â The Tigers have lost seven of Zimmermann's last 10 starts. Â I'm backing the Orioles, our Afternoon Annihilator GOW. Â Note: The 23-7 spots include Bundy's 5-1 record, Baltimore's 13-6 head-to-head run, and Detroit's 0-5 slide off a win. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-17-17 | Phillies v. Rangers -135 | 3-9 | Win | 100 | 17 h 59 m | Show
I'm backing the Rangers on Wednesday with Cashner over Eflin. Â Texas has won seven in a row winning by a combined score of 42-17 and the Phillies have lost 13 of their last 16 games after the Rangers' 5-1 win on Tuesday. Â Zach Eflin has been decent, but the Phillies have lost his last three starts. Andrew Cashner has a 2.43 ERA and opponents have a .212 batting average against him, but he doesn't have much to show for it. Â Cashner has made 12 appearances in his career against Philadelphia and he is 3-1 with a 2.55 ERA, including six starts. Â Cashner has allowed only three runs in 16 innings at home this season. Â The Phillies are 1-11 their last 12 games versus right-handed starters and have lost 23 of their last 30 road games overall dating to last season. Â I'm backing the Rangers, our Midweek Mismatch. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-17-17 | Mets v. Diamondbacks -122 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 13 h 32 m | Show |
I'm backing Arizona on Wednesday with Harvey & Corbin on the mound. Â It just keeps getting worse for the Mets, who lost their sixth straight on Tuesday night, and now Matt Harvey will take the mound after allowing 17 runs on 20 hits in 14 2/3 innings his last three starts and New York has lost his last five starts overall. Â Mets pitchers have given up 47 runs the last six games, including last night's 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks, who have won 21 of their last 29 home games dating to last season. Â Patrick Corbin had a rough outing at Colorado and then got the win when Arizona beat the Pirates 11-4 on Friday. Â If you subtract the loss at Coors Field, Corbin has a 2.83 ERA in the rest of his starts. Â Also, Corbin is 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA and .237 opponent batting average at home. Arizona has won seven of the last eight meetings. Â I'm backing the Diaondbacks, my Afternoon Annihilator. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
05-15-17 | Braves v. Blue Jays -130 | 10-6 | Loss | -130 | 16 h 5 m | Show
I'm backing the Toronto Blue Jays with Colon & Bolsinger on the mound. It might finally be the end of the line for Bartolo Colon as he has been getting pummeled lately allowing 23 earned runs on 36 hits in only 21 2/3 innings his last four starts. Colon is 1-4 with a 7.22 ERA and it's actually worse on the road where he is 0-3 with an 8.13 ERA. Now he runs into the red-hot Blue Jays who are fresh off a four-game sweep of the Mariners thanks to Kevin Pillar's walk-off homer on Sunday. Toronto has won five straight overall and seven of its last eight while Atlanta has lost seven of nine and is 8-13 on the road. Mike Bolsinger will make his second start of the season after limiting the Indians to two runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings on Tuesday. Bolsinger had a 1.46 ERA in triple-A before being called up to the majors. Atlanta has won just nine of its last 34 interleague games. We're backing the Blue Jays our Heavy Hitter on Monday. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-14-17 | Houston Astros - Game #2 v. New York Yankees - Game #2 -125 | Top | 10-7 | Loss | -125 | 17 h 2 m | Show |
I'm backing the Yankees in game-2 with Tanaka over Morton. Â The Yankees and Astros were rained out on Saturday and will play a day-night doubleheader today with Charlie Morton and Masahiro Tanaka going in the nightcap. Â New York has won Tanaka's last five starts, including 10-4 over Cincinnati on Monday, which was the night after the Yanks played 18 innings in Chicago. The right-hander gave up three earned runs in seven innings and walked only one against the Reds and he has a 3.10 ERA his last six appearances. Â Tanaka usually rises to the occasion as New York has won 14 of his last 17 home starts against teams with winning records. Â Morton has pitched twice on the road this season and allowed eight runs on 15 hits in 10 innings. Â He's struggled badly on the road for the last few seasons. Â Yankees hitters who have faced Morton are batting .338 against him with a .965 OPS. Â New York is 12-5 at Yankee Stadium and third in the majors with an .861 OPS at home. I'm backing the Yankees, our Sunday Dominator. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-12-17 | Cubs v. Cardinals -123 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -123 | 18 h 40 m | Show |
I'm backing the Cardinals on Friday with Leake over Butler. Â St. Louis has won six in a row and Mike Leake takes the mound with a 4-1 record and sparkling 1.79 ERA and has not allowed more than three runs in any of his six starts. Â Leake has given up only three runs in 20 1/3 innings at home this season and only one home run overall. The Cubs have lost five of their last six and might still be feeling the effects of the 18-inning marathon against the Yankees on Sunday night. The Cardinals got off to a shaky start, but now have won 16 of their last 21 games and their last five games against right-handed starters. Â Eddie Butler will make his first start for the Cubs and he has a 6-16 career record and 6.50 ERA. Â Butler played with Colorado the last three seasons and was 2-5 with a 7.17 ERA in 2016. The Cubs have lost five of their last seven road games. Â I'm backing the Cardinals, our Friday Knockout. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-10-17 | Cardinals -109 v. Marlins | Top | 7-5 | Win | 100 | 16 h 15 m | Show |
I'm backing the red-hot St. Louis Cardinals with Lynn over Koehler on Wednesday. Â St. Louis suddenly is in first place in the NL Central and won its fifth straight by a 6-5 score over the Marlins on Tuesday. Â Lance Lynn takes the mound with a 4-1 record and 2.04 ERA and the Cardinals have won his last four starts. Â Lynn has allowed only two runs with 23 strikeouts in 25 innings in those four outings and he appears to be one of those pitchers that have come back even stronger after Tommy John surgery than before. Â St. Louis has won eight road games in a row and Miami has lost 11 of its last 12 against right-handed starters. Â Also, the Marlins have lost six of their last seven home games. Â Tom Koehler is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and he's given up six runs and 11 hits in 10 innings at home this season. Â The Marlins are 3-11 in Koehler's last 14 starts. Â I'm backing the Cardinals, our Wednesday Wipeout. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-10-17 | Giants v. Mets -120 | 6-5 | Loss | -120 | 10 h 17 m | Show
I'm backing the NY Mets with Milone over Cain on Wednesday. Â San Francisco continued its downward spiral with a 6-1 loss to the Mets on Tuesday and the Giants now have lost five in a row while being outscored 41-9. Â The Giants are in last place in the NL West and 5-15 away from home. Matt Cain comes off a horrific performance when he allowed nine runs and 10 hits with six walks in 3 1/3 innings against the Reds. Â New York hitters have a combined .321 batting average and .943 OPS against Cain and the Mets, with all their injuries, still have won five of their last six games. Â The Mets claimed Tommy Milone off waivers on Sunday from the Brewers where he started three games and relieved in three others. Â The Giants have won only five of their last 22 road contests dating to last season and just three of Cain's last 12 road starts. Â I'm backing the NY Mets on Wednesday, our Daytime Dominator. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-09-17 | Rangers -137 v. Padres | 11-0 | Win | 100 | 12 h 54 m | Show
I'm backing the Texas Rangers on Tuesday afternoon with Griffin over Weaver. Â Jered Weaver left the AL for a shot to revive and extend his career in San Diego, but things aren't working out too well. Â The Padres are 0-6 in Weaver's first six outings and he has been bombed, allowing 12 home runs in just 32 2/3 innings, or 3.3 HR / 9 IP. Â He's allowed a homer in all six starts this season, including at least 2 HRs in five starts. Â In fact, Weaver has allowed 49 homers in his last 37 trips to the mound. Â I do believe he's exactly what the doctor ordered for the Rangers and we note Texas has clobbered RH starts in road day action, averaging over 6 rpg in four outings. Â A.J. Griffin has allowed just 4 earned runs and 14 base runners with 19 Ks in his last three starts, spanning 17 IP, for a 2.12 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. Â And while the Padres are on a 0-6 slide with Weaver, the Rangers are on a 20-7 winning run when Griffin takes the mound. Â I'm backing the Texas Rangers, my Daytime winner on Tuesday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-07-17 | White Sox +112 v. Orioles | 0-4 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 1 m | Show
I'm backing the White Sox on Sunday with Quintana over Tillman. Â Chris Tillman comes off the disabled list due to a shoulder injury and will make his season debut, but might not be ready based on his latest rehab stint at Triple-A when he allowed five runs on five hits, including four home runs in only five innings. Â Tillman faced the White Sox once in 2016 and gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings. Â Jose Quintana got off to a shaky start this season, but he won his last two outings allowing one earned run and nine hits with 17 strikeouts in 14 innings. Â Baltimore is 23rd in the majors with a .651 OPS against left-handers and has lost four of its last five versus southpaws. Â Also, the Orioles lost Tillman's last four home starts last season. Â There is good value in the road underdog. Â I'm backing the White Sox, our DogPound release. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-06-17 | Cardinals +104 v. Braves | Top | 5-3 | Win | 104 | 15 h 10 m | Show |
I'm backing the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Â St. Louis comes off a 10-0 win over the Braves and now the Cardinals open with Mike Leake, who has a 1.35 ERA and five out of five quality starts this season. Â Leake allowed one run in six innings his last start against Cincinnati although the Cards ended up losing 5-4. Â The right-hander has given up only five runs and five walks with 25 strikeouts in 33 1/2 innings this season. Â Meanwhile, Julio Teheran has looked bad in two of his last three starts, including a 7-5 loss to the Mets when he gave up six runs in six innings. Teheran has issued 18 walks in 35 1/3 innings and his ERA has gone from 0.95 to 4.33 his last three starts. Atlanta is in last place in the NL East and only 5-16 in Teheran's last 21 starts and they're 1-6 in their last seven home games, overall. Meanwhile, the Redbirds are on a 4-0 run on the road and they have won four straight in Atlanta. Â We're backing the St. Louis Cardinals our Saturday Shocker. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-05-17 | Red Sox -139 v. Twins | 3-4 | Loss | -139 | 15 h 10 m | Show
I'm backing the Boston Red Sox on Friday night with Rodriguez & Hughes. Eduardo Rodriguez comes off two excellent starts against the Orioles and Cubs where he allowed a total of only one run on six hits with 16 strikeouts in 12 innings. Â Boston has won his last three starts and opponents have a .185 batting average against him this season. Â Phil Hughes actually has pitched worse than his 4-1 record indicates as he has a 5.06 ERA and has given up 16 runs (14 earned) and 29 hits his last four starts covering 20 2/3 innings. Â Current Boston hitters have a .356 batting average and .952 OPS against Hughes, who was 1-4 with a 6.27 ERA at home in 2016 and in his one appearance at Target Field this year he allowed six runs (four earned) and eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings in an 11-4 loss to Cleveland. Â Boston is on a 9-2 run off a loss and on a 5-0 run when Rodriguez throws on four days rest. Â The Twins have dropped four of Hughes' last five home starts. I'm backing the Red Sox on Friday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-04-17 | Rockies +102 v. Padres | Top | 3-2 | Win | 102 | 12 h 51 m | Show |
I'm backing the Colorado Rockies with Freeland & Perdomo doing battle. Â The Padres are a little worse against southpaws than they are against RH and that's saying something because they don't fare well against righties either. Â Rockies' hurler Kyle Freeland is a lefty in revenge after throwing one bad inning this season, which came in the first inning against these Padres in April. Â Freeland has allowed just one earned run and 15 base runners in his last 13 innings of work, while inducing 32 groundballs and just 13 flyballs in his last two outings. Freeland should receive plenty of help from his offense that averages about 5 rpg. Â Luis Perdomo finally draws a tough assignment in this, his fourth outing of the season. Â We believe he's ripe for the picking. Â The Rox have won four of Freeland's last five starts, while the Padres have won just one of Perdomo's last five starts when throwing on five days rest. Â I'm backing the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
05-03-17 | Marlins +116 v. Rays | 10-6 | Win | 116 | 6 h 41 m | Show
I'm backing the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. Â Adam Conley had pitched well before running into the Pirates last time out and while the season is young we do believe his most recent outing was not the norm. Â Tampa hurler Blake Snell has control issues and walks too many hitters. Â Snell has a weak 18 K's to 18 walks ratio in 26 IP this season, which means he has no margin for error. Â Snell had the same problem last season averaging nearly 5.5 walks per 9 IP at home. Â The Rays have dropped eight of the last nine when Snell throws on four days rest. I'm backing the Miami Marlins, our DogPound release. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-03-17 | Orioles v. Red Sox -141 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 6 h 42 m | Show |
I'm backing the Red Sox on Wednesday. Kevin Gausman's last three starts have not gone well. He's been smacked for 18 ER and 32 base runners, including 24 hits in just 14 IP. Â Gausman has allowed five walks and nearly 2 HRs per 9 IP. Â Gausman was drilled by Boston this season at Camden and was drilled at Fenway in his last six appearances there. Â Drew Pomeranz has an excellent K/BB ratio this season and we believe he's due for a little run. Â We also feel he'll get plenty of support with his offense welcoming the chance against Gausman. Â Baltimore has won just 9 of the right-handers last 33 road starts, while Boston has won four straight Pomeranz home starts. Â They're also on a 5-1 run against Gausman. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-02-17 | Rays +120 v. Marlins | 3-1 | Win | 120 | 3 h 11 m | Show
Late release on the Rays w/ Cobb over Volquez. Late releases don't always include analysis with time of the essence. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-02-17 | Pirates v. Reds -120 | Top | 12-3 | Loss | -120 | 16 h 6 m | Show |
I'm backing the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. Â Cincinnati came through with a win against Gerrit Cole and the Pirates last night and now get Tyler Glasnow, who should still be in the minor leagues based on his performance so far this season. Â Glasnow has been fortunate that his team has scored a lot of runs and won his last three starts although he didn't get the win in any of them. The right-hander has allowed 17 runs (13 earned) and 23 hits in only 14 2/3 innings while issuing 13 walks. Â Scott Feldman has pitched better than his 1-2 record indicates as he has a 3.25 ERA and has given up only 10 earned runs in five starts covering 27 2/3 innings. Â Feldman faces a Bucs' squad that's lost six of their last seven against RH starters. Â The Reds have won all four meetings this season by a combined score of 26-8 and the Pirates have lost 12 of their last 17 road games dating to last season. Â I'm backing the Reds on Tuesday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
05-01-17 | Mets v. Braves -116 | Top | 7-5 | Loss | -116 | 17 h 13 m | Show |
I'm backing the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. Â Atlanta lost Sunday when Dansby Swanson committed a two-out error in the sixth inning and then Domingo Santana hit a three-run homer to give the Brewers a 4-1 lead and they ended up winning 4-3. Â However, the Braves still have won four of their last five and have scored 39 runs in the process. Â Julio Teheran will face the Mets for the third time this season and he's given up two earned runs in 12 1/3 innings and was the winner in his team's 8-2 win on Wednesday. Â New York has numerous injuries and was humiliated 23-5 at Washington on Sunday and now Robert Gsellman gets the start and he has a 6.23 ERA after allowing six runs and 10 hits in four innings against the Braves in the same matchup with Teheran last week. Â The Mets have lost 11 of their last 14 games, while the Braves are on a 6-0 run at home against teams with a losing record. I'm backing the Braves on Monday, our Mismatch release. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-29-17 | Rays +116 v. Blue Jays | 1-4 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 30 m | Show
I'm backing the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Â Toronto lost again last night to sink to 6-17 overall and 2-8 at home. Â The Blue Jays will be playing their fourth game in three days and they used 10 pitchers in a day-night doubleheader loss to St. Louis on Thursday and four more on Friday night. Francisco Liriano faced Tampa Bay on April 7 and didn't make it out of the first inning while allowing five runs and issuing four walks in a third of an inning. Â Matt Andriese comes off three starts when he allowed a total of only five runs in 17 innings with 14 strikeouts. Â Liriano is 2-3 with a 5.85 ERA in his career against the Rays. Toronto has lost 15 of its last 21 games versus right-handed starters and 20 of their last 27 overall dating to last season. Â We'll back the Rays, our DogPound release. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-28-17 | Braves v. Brewers -120 | 10-8 | Loss | -120 | 18 h 48 m | Show
I'm backing the Milwaukee Brewers with Anderson over Colon. Â Milwaukee rested on Thursday after scoring 29 runs its last three games and Eric Thames is expected to play after experiencing some hamstring tightness in Wednesday's game. Â Chase Anderson is 2-0 with a sparkling 1.13 ERA and has allowed only three earned runs with 22 strikeouts in 24 innings. Â Atlanta won its second straight on Thursday after losing six in a row but Bartolo Colon comes off a loss at Philadelphia when he gave up four runs and 11 hits in seven innings. Colon has been hit hard his last two road starts allowing 10 runs and 18 hits in just 11 innings. Â The Brewers are second in the majors with a .793 OPS and .474 slugging percentage. Milwaukee has won six of the last eight meetings and they're on a 4-0 run when Chase Anderson is making a start following a quality outing in his previous start. Â Meanwhile, the Braves have crushed bankrolls, winning just 16 of their last 58 against pitchers with a WHIP lower than 1.15. Â I'm backing the Brewers, our Friday Knockout. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-27-17 | A's v. Angels -115 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 18 h 43 m | Show
I'm backing the Angels on Thursday. The Angels have won three straight to improve their home record to 8-4 while Oakland has lost three in a row and trying to avoid a sweep. Â This is a rematch of the opening day starters when Kendall Graveman got the best of Rocky Nolasco and the Angels in a 4-2 win. Â The Angels have had success against Graveman at Angel Stadium where he's allowed 12 runs (11 earned) on 29 hits in 21 2/3 innings the last three years. Â Nolasco comes off a quality start at Houston in a 5-2 Angels win when he gave up two runs in six innings. Â Last year Oakland hitters batted .181 against Nolasco in 27 innings pitched. Â The Athletics have lost eight of Graveman's last 10 starts against AL West teams. Oakland has lost five in a row at Los Angeles dating to last season. Â And finally, the Halos are on a 15-5 run at home, making money against teams with a losing record. I'm backing the Angels, our Mismatch. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-25-17 | Blue Jays v. Cardinals -133 | Top | 6-5 | Loss | -133 | 18 h 36 m | Show |
I'm backing the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. Â Toronto is 28th in the major leagues in OPS and 25th in batting average and the Blue Jays come off a 2-1 loss at the Los Angeles Angels Monday night lowering their record to 5-14, the worst start in franchise history. The Blue Jays obviously miss the departed Edwin Encarnacion and now they go to an NL park without a designated hitter after traveling overnight. Â Michael Wacha is trying to bounce back from a rough 2016 season and so far he is 2-1 with a 2.41 ERA, including allowing only two runs and seven hits in 18 2/3 innings in two home games. Marco Estrada is off to a decent start, but Toronto still has lost five of his last six starts and four of his last five road starts dating to last season. Â St. Louis has rebounded after a poor start to win six of its last seven. They're 8-1 in Wacha's last nine trips to the mound. Â I'm backing the Cardinals, my Tuesday Heavy Hitter. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-24-17 | Twins v. Rangers -129 | 3-2 | Loss | -129 | 17 h 8 m | Show
I'm laying the price with the Texas Rangers on Monday. Â Minnesota comes off two losses to Detroit and now the Twins have Phil Hughes on the mound and he has allowed 10 runs (eight earned) and 13 hits in nine innings his last two starts against the Tigers and Cleveland. Â Hughes didn't make it out of the fourth inning against the Indians, who piled up eight hits against him on their way to an 11-4 win on Tuesday. Â Hughes has a 4.79 ERA and .341 opponent batting average against Texas the last three years and 5.27 and .357 in those two categories at Rangers Ballpark. The Rangers are fresh off a four-game sweep of the Royals to improve their home record to 6-4. Martin Perez had a poor outing in Oakland, but he gave up only four runs in 16 1/3 innings his first three starts and he is 12-5 with a 3.36 ERA his last 26 starts at home. Â Besides the 4-game win streak, the Rangers are on an 8-2 run at home when Perez starts against teams with a losing record. Meanwhile, the Twins have won just six of their last 27 road games against teams with a winning home record. Â I'm backing the Rangers, our Monday Mismatch. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-23-17 | Mariners v. A's -130 | 11-1 | Loss | -130 | 13 h 26 m | Show
I'm backing the Oakland A's, our Afternoon Annihilator on Sunday. Oakland has won five straight and Seattle has lost three in a row and the Mariners are 1-9 on the road after Saturday's 4-3 win by the Athletics. Yovani Gallardo is off to a terrible start allowing 11 runs and 24 hits in 16 innings for a 6.19 ERA. Â Seattle has been outscored 20-6 in his three outings and Gallardo is 0-4 with a 4.82 ERA against the Athletics the last three years. Â Meanwhile, Andrew Triggs still hasn't given up an earned run this season in 17 2/3 innings and he has nine strikeouts and just four walks allowed. Triggs has been the winner in all three of his starts, including a 4-2 win against Texas on Tuesday. Seattle is 29th in the majors with a .195 batting average on the road. Â I'm backing the Oakland A's, our Afternoon Annihilator. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-21-17 | Yankees -107 v. Pirates | Top | 3-6 | Loss | -107 | 17 h 53 m | Show |
I'm playing the NY Yankees on Friday. CC Sabathia is pitching like his old self with New York winning his first three starts while he has allowed only three earned runs in 18 1/3 innings. The Yankees have won nine of their last 10 games while Pittsburgh lost three straight 2-1 games at St. Louis. Â The Pirates obviously are shaken by the loss of suspended starting center fielder Starling Marte and they start Tyler Glasnow, who has been pummeled for 11 runs (nine earned) and 10 hits in just 6 2/3 innings this season. Glasnow does have eight strikeouts but also has issued seven walks. Â The Yankees have won 20 of Sabathia's 27 interleague starts and the Pirates have lost nine of their last 11 interleague home games against teams with winning records. Â I'm backing the Yankees my Friday night Knockout. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
04-20-17 | Cardinals -120 v. Brewers | 5-7 | Loss | -120 | 16 h 15 m | Show
I'm backing the Cardinals on Thursday, my Pitching Mismatch. Â St. Louis started the season 3-9 and then swept a three-game series with the Pirates all by the same 2-1 score and now the Cardinals send Carlos Martinez to the mound, who is coming off a weird performance against the Yankees on Saturday. Â Martinez walked eight and struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings while allowing only two earned runs. The right-hander pitched better on the road last season where he was 9-2 with a 2.45 ERA and he was 3-0 and 1.38 while giving up only four earned runs in 26 innings against Milwaukee, including just two runs in 19 innings at Miller Park. Martinez threw 118 pitches against New York and could come out after six or seven innings, however, the Cardinals bullpen was solid during the Pittsburgh series. Â Zach Davies has an 8.79 ERA in three starts, which were all losses for the Brewers and he's given up 11 runs on 16 hits in 9 1/3 innings at home. Davies was 0-3 with an 8.78 ERA in April 2016. Â I'm backing the Cardinals, our Pitching Mismatch. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-19-17 | Diamondbacks -128 v. Padres | 0-1 | Loss | -128 | 20 h 38 m | Show
I'm playing the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. Â San Diego is back to where it was expected to be this season losing five in a row and in last place in the NL West. Â Journeyman pitcher Jhoulys Chacin has a 7.80 ERA in three starts, which includes allowing nine runs in 3 1/3 innings against the Dodgers and four runs on eight hits at Atlanta on Friday. Â The Padres have been outscored 34-12 their last five games and Arizona has won the last five meetings dating to last season. Â Zack Grienke got beat by his nemesis, his former team the Dodgers, but he allowed only three runs in 11 2/3 innings his first two starts. Â Greinke is 5-1 with a 2.13 ERA against the Padres the last three years, including 2.05 with a .194 opponent batting average at Petco Park. Arizona is tied for first in the NL West and a winner of three straight. I'm backing the Arizona Diamondbacks, my KNOCKOUT on Wednesday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-18-17 | Tigers +105 v. Rays | 1-5 | Loss | -100 | 16 h 41 m | Show
I'm backing the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night whether Miguel Cabrera plays or not. Â Detroit is in first place in the AL Central and it sends Michael Fulmer to the mound and he has picked up where he left off from his Rookie of the Year season in 2016. Â The Tigers have won both his starts and he has allowed only three runs on eight hits in 12 innings. The right-hander has 11 strikeouts and walked only three batters. Â The Rays struggled mightily against Fulmer last year managing just one run and six hits in 14 innings, including failing to score in seven innings at Tropicana Field. Â Matt Andriese gave up five runs in four innings against Toronto in his first start and bounced back with a good effort against the Yankees in a game Tampa Bay eventually lost 3-2. However, Andriese has a 5.73 ERA in five career appearances against the Tigers. Detroit has won 20 of Fulmer's last 26 starts and the Rays have lost 10 of Andriese's last 14 starts. Â I'm backing the Detroit Tigers, our Value Beatdown. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
04-17-17 | Indians -145 v. Twins | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 20 h 33 m | Show
I'm backing the Cleveland Indians, our Heavy Hitter on Monday. Â Kyle Gibson has an 8.00 ERA in two outings allowing eight runs and nine hits, including three home runs, in nine innings. Gibson was 1-8 at home last season with a .308 opponent batting average and he was 0-3 with a 6.10 ERA in April 2016. Also, the Indians clobbered him to the tune of 10 runs and 20 hits in 10 2/3 innings and a .400 batting average. Danny Salazar had a rough start at Texas, but then came back with a good effort against the White Sox giving up two runs and four hits in six innings with 11 strikeouts. Â Salazar has struck out 20 batters in 11 2/3 innings this season. Â The Indians have won 13 of Salazar's last 18 starts dating to last season and they have won six of their last seven games against Minnesota. The Twins have lost Gibson's last four home starts against Cleveland. Â I'm laying a rare price with the Indians, our Heavy Hitter on Monday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-17-17 | Pirates +121 v. Cardinals | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 18 h 25 m | Show |
I'm backing the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Â St. Louis is in dire straits with a 3-9 record after getting swept by the Yankees and now the Cardinals have a tough turnaround having to travel back home after losing at New York Sunday night. Â The Cardinals have lost both of Lance Lynn's starts and he allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits in five innings at Washington on Tuesday. Â Also, Lynn is 5-5 with a 4.74 ERA in his career against the Pirates and current Pittsburgh hitters are batting .290 against him. Â The Pirates come off a sweep of the World Series champion Cubs and the Cardinals will be facing Ivan Nova for the first time in his career. Â Nova allowed one run in six innings his first start against Atlanta and then had one bad inning against Cincinnati, but otherwise pitched well. Â Pittsburgh is on a 5-1 run against right-handers, while the Cards have dropped nine of their last 11 games. Â There is great value with the road underdog in this matchup. Â I'm backing the Pirates, my DogPound on Monday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-16-17 | Angels v. Royals -101 | 0-1 | Win | 100 | 10 h 19 m | Show
I'm backing the Royals on Sunday. Kansas City suddenly has won three in a row while the Angels have lost four straight after Saturday's 3-2 Royals win with Mike Moustakas hitting the go-ahead home run in the eighth. Â The Angels offense has scored three runs on 10 hits and none for extra bases the first two games of this series. Â Tyler Skaggs has been pummeled his first two outings allowing 10 runs and 13 hits in just 10 1/3 innings while walking five batters. Â Skaggs' road ERA last year was 4.86 compared to 2.76 at home and the Angels have lost eight of his last 11 starts overall. Â Ian Kennedy made one bad pitch to Khris Davis for a two-run homer but otherwise was effective in a 2-0 loss to Oakland on Monday. Kansas City has won six of the last eight meetings at Kauffman Stadium and I'm betting they'll win again. Â I'm backing the KC Royals, my Sunday Shocker. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-15-17 | White Sox v. Twins -122 | Top | 0-6 | Win | 100 | 12 h 33 m | Show |
I'm backing the Twins on Saturday afternoon. Â Minnesota lost for the first time at home Friday night, but Ervin Santana is on the mound today and he has been nearly unhittable his first two starts allowing just one run on four hits in 13 innings, including six shutout innings against the White Sox in a 4-1 win on Sunday. Â Santana is 5-3 with a 2.42 ERA with 55 strikeouts his last 10 starts at Target Field. Â Jose Quintana pitched in the same game against the Twins and gave up two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, but that followed an outing against Detroit when he gave up six runs and five hits in just 5 1/3 innings in a 6-3 loss. Quintana is 2-5 with a 5.51 ERA in eight starts since last September. The White Sox have lost four of Quintana's last five road starts against the Twins and his last four starts versus Minnesota overall. Â I'm backing the Twins, my AL Central Dominator. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-14-17 | Rockies v. Giants -134 | Top | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 20 h 19 m | Show |
I'm backing the SF Giants on Friday. Johnny Cueto has won his first two starts although he has allowed six runs and three homers in 12 innings. Â Cueto is back home at AT&T Park though where he was 8-3 with a 2.79 ERA in 2016. Cueto dominated the Rockies last season giving up just four earned runs in 30 1/3 innings and he is 5-0 with a miniscule 1.33 ERA versus Colorado the last three years. Â Tyler Anderson has been hammered his first two starts allowing 10 runs and 13 hits in only 10 2/3 innings. Â Anderson was 0-4 on the road last year, including one start at San Francisco when he was touched for three runs on four hits in six innings. The Giants have won 10 of their last 13 games against left-handed starters dating to last season and nine of Cueto's last 13 home starts. Â I'm backing the Giants on Friday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-13-17 | A's +120 v. Royals | 1-3 | Loss | -100 | 18 h 57 m | Show
I'm backing the Oakland A's on Thursday. Â It appears Kansas City is snakebit against the Athletics, who won their eighth in a row against the Royals dating to last season by an 8-3 score Wednesday night. Â Kansas City has scored a total of only 20 runs in those eight contests and the Royals are 8-26 their last 34 games against AL West teams. Â Jesse Hahn came out of the bullpen and pitched six effective innings at Texas on Friday allowing two runs on seven hits. Â Hahn was able to stop the bleeding after the Rangers exploded for eight runs in the first two innings. Â The right-hander isn't new to this role as he started nine games for the Athletics last season. Jason Vargas gave up a run and six hits at Houston, but it's questionable if he can get enough support from his offense, which has a current batting average of .199 and has scored only 24 runs in eight games. Â We'll back the A's, our Road Warrior on Thursday. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-13-17 | Rangers -131 v. Angels | Top | 8-3 | Win | 100 | 13 h 15 m | Show |
I'm backing the Texas Rangers on Thursday afternoon. Â Yu Darvish is 7-2 in his career against the Angels and 5-2 with a 2.70 ERA at Angel Stadium. Following a shaky start against Cleveland, Darvish allowed just a run on four hits with five strikeouts in six innings against Oakland. Â The right-hander also had a 2.28 ERA on the road last season and gave up one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings against the Angels in 2016. Â The Angels' recent ninth inning magic didn't come into play Wednesday night in an 8-3 loss to the Rangers. Â Ricky Nolasco has allowed five runs and 11 hits in 11 2/3 innings this season and he allowed three earned runs and nine hits in six innings last year against Texas. Â The Rangers have won six of the last seven games Darvish has started against the Angels and six of his last seven starts in this stadium. Â I'm backing Texas Rangers, our Daytime Knockout. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
04-12-17 | Astros -112 v. Mariners | Top | 10-5 | Win | 100 | 20 h 30 m | Show |
I'm backing the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. Â Mike Fiers gave up one earned run and five hits in six innings in his first start, although the bullpen allowed three runs in the eighth inning in Houston's 5-1 loss to the Royals on Friday. Â Yovani Gallardo got pummeled by the Angels allowing three runs and eight hits in five innings. Gallardo had a 5.42 ERA in 2016 and gave up 14 runs and 23 hits in 18 innings in April. Â Also, the right-hander has given up 15 earned runs in 26 1/3 innings against the Astros the last two seasons. Â Seattle is off to a 2-7 start, which includes an historical ninth inning meltdown against the Angels on Sunday. Â The Seattle bullpen had another rough night on Tuesday in the Mariners' 7-5 loss. Â We'll back the Houston Astros, our Divisional Dominator. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-12-17 | Braves v. Marlins -117 | 5-4 | Loss | -117 | 16 h 29 m | Show
I'm backing the Marlins, my Wednesday Wipeout. Â Atlanta was expected to be much improved this year, but a lack of hitting, a bad bullpen and managerial blunders have doomed the Braves so far as they have lost six of their first seven games. Â Jaime Garcia got off to a rough start with his new team allowing four runs and six hits in six innings in a 6-2 loss at the New York Mets. Â He pitched well the first four innings but then fell apart and he wound up throwing 86 pitches with no strikeouts. Garcia comes off a 10-13 season and in 9 2/3 innings against Miami last year he gave up 10 runs and 15 hits. Â The Marlins have a .767 OPS against left-handers this season and .300 batting average. Â Tom Koehler allowed a run on four hits in five innings in the Marlins' 4-3 win at Washington on Thursday. Â Marcell Ozuna hit two home runs and drove in six runs and Miami won 8-4 last night for its fourth win in five games. Â And while the Braves are on a 0-4 slide, the Marlins are 8-1 the last nine times Koehler has started against teams with a losing record. We're backing the Marlins, our Wednesday Wipeout. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-09-17 | Braves +134 v. Pirates | Top | 5-6 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 23 m | Show |
I'm backing the underdog Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Â Atlanta has an excellent chance to finally break through with some clutch hits and salvage the final game of the series against Gerrit Cole, who allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings in Pittsburgh's 5-3 loss at Boston on Monday. Cole has been hampered by injuries the last few years and he finished last season by giving up 23 earned runs on 45 hits in just 27 1/3 innings in August and September. Julio Teheran threw six shutout innings against the Mets before the bullpen blew it for the Braves in the 6-0 loss in their season opener. Â Teheran allowed no runs in 7 2/3 innings against the Pirates at PNC Park in 2016 and current Pittsburgh hitters have a combined .225 batting average against him. Â The Pirates have won only seven of their last 27 home games dating to last season even with their latest two wins. I'm backing the underdog Braves, my DogPound GOW. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-08-17 | Indians v. Diamondbacks -105 | 2-11 | Win | 100 | 18 h 28 m | Show
I'm backing the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Â Arizona never recovered from A.J. Pollock's fractured elbow injury last spring, but he's back now and it's already made a huge difference as the Diamondbacks have won four of their first five games while scoring 34 runs. Zack Greinke allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in five innings against San Francisco but didn't get the decision as the Diamondbacks scored twice with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a win. Â Trevor Bauer was 12-8 with a 4.26 ERA last season and allowed nine runs in 15 1/3 innings in April. Â Now Bauer has to face a red-hot Diamondbacks lineup in a hitter's park as the Indians play their fifth road game in a row. Â The Tribe enter on a 15-36 slide on the IL road against teams with a winning record, while Arizona is on a 13-6 run with Greinke on the mound. Greinke is getting a bargain price at home in this matchup. I'm backing Arizona, my Value Crusher. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-08-17 | Blue Jays v. Rays -127 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 16 h 26 m | Show |
I'm backing the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday with Archer over Sanchez. Tampa Bay won a wild 10-8 game Friday night against Toronto, but this matchup should be much calmer with Aaron Sanchez and Chris Archer on the mound. Archer got off to a good start, unlike last year, with seven solid innings against the Yankees.  The right-hander allowed two runs and seven hits while walking just one batter.  Archer was 3-10 at home in 2016 but with a 2.65 ERA and he actually pitched well against the Blue Jays.  The Blue Jays hit .179 against him in 23 1/3 innings.  Sanchez  has been working through a finger injury and he had an 8.44 ERA in spring training.  The Rays have won three of their first five games while Toronto has lost three of four.  In addition, to his start against the Yanks, Archer also threw four effective innings in the World Baseball Classic.  Expect a lower scoring game than last night but go with the Rays to get another win. The Rays are my Heavy Hitter. Thanks & GL!  Scott Spreitzer. |
04-07-17 | Yankees v. Orioles -112 | Top | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 17 h 39 m | Show |
I'm backing the Orioles on Friday. Â New York lost two of three at Tampa Bay and send to the mound Luis Severino, who was 0-8 with an 8.50 ERA in 11 starts in 2016. Â The left-hander gave up seven runs (six earned) in 12 1/3 innings against Baltimore and his April record was 0-3 with a 6.86 ERA. Â Severino appears better suited for the bullpen than as a starter. Â Baltimore is off to a good start winning both games against Toronto while holding the Blue Jays to a total of three runs. Â Ubaldo Jimenez has been a mystery most of his career, but he's facing a Yankees lineup that is off to a slow start with Gary Sanchez, Greg Bird and Aaron Judge hitting a combined .105. Â The Yankees are 2-10 in Severino's last 12 starts and the Orioles are 24-6 in Jimenez's last 30 starts at Camden Yards. Â The Orioles have won 20 of the last 27 meetings at home. Â Finally, Baltimore picked up nearly 15 units and averaged virtually 5 rpg at home against right-handed starters last season. Â I'm backing the Orioles, my Mismatch on Friday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-07-17 | Giants v. Padres +101 | 6-7 | Win | 101 | 4 h 47 m | Show
We're backing the Padres with Perdomo over the Giants with Cain. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
04-06-17 | Giants -102 v. Diamondbacks | 3-9 | Loss | -102 | 19 h 16 m | Show
I'm backing the Giants on the money line on Thursday. Â San Francisco will send Jeff Samardzija to the mound in hopes of bouncing back from Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Diamondbacks. Â The right-hander was 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA versus Arizona in 2016 and he allowed five earned runs in 15 1/3 innings at Chase Field. Â Samardzija won 12 games last year, which was a career high, as he returned to the National League where he is much more effective than his ill-fated A.L. stints. Â Robbie Ray was a top prospect when Detroit traded for him in the Doug Fister deal, but the left-hander has been inconsistent in his big league career and comes off an 8-15 season with a 4.90 ERA while allowing 24 home runs. Â Ray had only one month (August) with an ERA under 4.00 and he gave up 49 earned runs in 82 1/3 innings at home. Â Arizona won just two of Ray's last seven starts last season. Â They have won just 21 of their last 66 against right-handed starters, and the Giants are on a 14-3 head-to-head run at the time of this post. Â I'm backing the SFO Giants, my Knockout on Thursday. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
04-04-17 | Cubs -137 v. Cardinals | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 6 h 59 m | Show
I'm backing the Cubs on the money-line on Tuesday.  St. Louis pulled out a win after blowing a 3-0 lead Sunday night, but now it faces Jake Arrieta, who was 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA in four outings last year against the Cardinals.  Also, Arrieta was 11-3 on the road and 5-0 with a 1.00 ERA in April last season. The right-hander had a post All-Star break ERA of 3.69 compared to 2.68 before the break, but he pitched about 28 fewer innings in regular and postseason play last year than in 2015 and should be less fatigued in 2017.  Adam Wainwright comes off one of his worst seasons as he recorded a 4.62 ERA and .281 opponent batting average.  The Cubs clobbered Wainwright to the tune of 13 runs and 19 hits in 14 2/3 innings for a 7.98 ERA. The righty was 1-3 and 7.16 in April 2016 with a .327 opponent batting average.  Chicago has won 38 of Arrieta's last 54 road starts and 41 of his last 56 starts overall, including five of his last six starts against St. Louis.  And as a team, they're on a 46-16 run against right-handed starers.  I'm backing the Cubs, my Heavy Hitter. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |

04-03-17 | Royals +102 v. Twins | 1-7 | Loss | -100 | 14 h 55 m | Show
I'm backing the KC Royals on Monday. Minnesota comes off a horrendous season losing 103 games and don't expect much improvement this season as the front office was overhauled and begins a new direction. Â The Twins have lost eight opening days in a row while being outscored 45-16. Â They are 2-5 in their last seven home openers. Â Kansas City won 15 of the 19 meetings last year and Danny Duffy comes off a 12-3 season, including 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA in day games. Duffy is 4-0 with 2.48 ERA against the Twins the last three seasons, including 3-0 at Target Field. Ervin Santana was Minnesota's best starter in 2016 which, of course, isn't saying much. Â Santana was 0-2 and gave up 14 earned runs and 26 hits in 27 2/3 innings against the Royals. Â The Twins have lost 12 of Santana's last 16 home starts. Â I'm backing the KC Royals, our Monday Shocker. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
10-18-16 | Indians v. Blue Jays -111 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 1 h 42 m | Show
I'm backing the Blue Jays on Tuesday as the host team looks to stave off elimination. Â The Cleveland pen was masterful last night when Trevor Bauer left his start less than on inning into the contest. Â But there's no doubt in my mind that Terry Francona had his relievers geared for a possible long outing. Â It's not easy getting right back on track less than 24 hours later and starter Corey Kluber will take the mound on three days rest for the first time in his career. Â The right-hander threw 100 pitches over 6 1/3 shutout innings in Friday's game-one win. Â Heading back to the hill this quickly, against what had been a powerful offense before the ALCS, is "just what the doctor ordered" for the Blue Jay bats. Â Aaron Sanchez gets the nod for the home team and looks to help his team to their 10th win in his last 13 home starts. Â We are betting there will be a game-five. I'm backing the Toronto Blue Jays, my ALCS Smash. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |

10-15-16 | Blue Jays -130 v. Indians | 1-2 | Loss | -130 | 9 h 42 m | Show
I'm backing the Blue Jays, my KO release. J.A. Happ allowed Texas just one earned run in five IP, despite allowing nine hits in his first postseason start this season. Happ went into the game with a 27-6 record and a 2.86 ERA in his previous 43 starts since being traded by Seattle and including starts with both the Pirates & Blue Jays. Â Happ faced the Tribe once this season, allowing just one earned run and five base runners in seven innings of work. Â He's held Cleveland to two runs or less in four of his last five starts against them. The Indians would have liked to start Trevor Bauer today. Â That was the plan before a non-baseball injury sidelined the hurler for at least one game. Instead, Terry Francona sends Josh Tomlin to the hill on four days rest. Â We note the Indians are 1-6 when the right-hander starts in this situation and Tomlin has been tagged for 16 earned runs and 36 base runners in his last four outings against the Jays, spanning 22 1/3 IP. Â Toronto lit-up the righty for six runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings on August 20. Â The Jays enter on a 10-1 run when Happ starts on the road and we'll back them here. Â The Blue Jays are my KO release. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |

10-11-16 | Cubs v. Giants +116 | 6-5 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 13 m | Show
I'm backing the SF Giants for the second straight night, my Knockout. Â Matt Moore has held six of his last eight opponents to two runs or less and he owns a 17:2 K/BB ratio in his last two outings. He has a 1.19 WHIP in six starts at AT&T and while his September numbers may not look too hot, they're skewed by two weak outings on the road in L.A. and Denver. The left-hander was just fine in four September home starts, posting a 1.73 ERA & 1.04 WHIP, with 28 Ks in 26 IP, while not allowing a single HR. Â Joe Maddon was once his manager, but Moore has an advantage here with only one member of the Cubs having faced him (Dexter Fowler 1 AB). Â Speaking of the Cubs' bats, the lineup is struggling. They're dead last in batting average (.202) and OBP (.243) among the teams that have played more than one postseason game. Â Cub pitchers have driven in six runs, while the regulars have just 5 RBIs. Â And as good as their season has been, Chicago averages just 3.5 rpg and has won just 8 of 24 this season against teams that allow no more than 4.3 rpg. Cubs' starter John Lackey was tremendous at Wrigley, but owns a 4.37 ERA away from home in 2016. Chicago enters on a 1-5 slide on the road against southpaws, while the Giants are on a 5-0 run at home and they're 4-0 at home when Moore toes the rubber. Â I'm backing the SF Giants my Tuesday Playoff Knockout. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |

10-10-16 | Cubs v. Giants -128 | Top | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 20 h 24 m | Show |
I'm backing Mad Bum and the SF Giants on Monday night. Â After a long and dominating run, Jake Arrieta finally looked human over the second half of the season. Â Arrieta enters with a 4.44 ERA in his last 16 starts and I don't believe he will be good enough to hang with Madison Bumgarner tonight. Â The Cubs are just 1-4 in their last five road games against southpaws, and now face one of the best. Â Bumgarner has a 0.78 ERA in his last nine playoff starts, spanning 68 2/3 IP. Â He's recorded no less than six postseason scoreless starts and the lefty is on a current run that has seen him throw 23 straight scoreless playoff innings. Â Mad Bum was strong in two starts against the powerful Cubs this season, allowing just two earned runs, 10 base runners, no homers, 16 K's, and a .163 BAA. Â His team ranks in the top-10 in home team batting average, OBP, and OPS. Â SFO enters on a 14-3 run at home when Bumgarner starts against teams with a winning record and they've won four straight at home, overall. Â I'm backing the SF Giants, my Monday Knockout. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |

10-06-16 | Red Sox -137 v. Indians | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -137 | 21 h 58 m | Show |
I'm backing the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. Â Rick Porcello has not only been the ace of this staff this season, but he finished up strong, posting a 2.88 ERA & 0.88 WHIP in six September starts. Â The right-hander finished the regular season with a 22-4 mark and his team won 25 of his 33 outings. Â He enters Thursday with a 10-4 record in 22 starts against the Indians, sporting a 3.35 ERA & 1.29 WHIP. Â The Indians have been forced to start Trevor Bauer in place of Corey Kluber due to the fact Terry Francona doesn't believe Kluber would be ready to go in game four. Bauer has struggled post-all star break, including in September, where he had a hefty 6.75 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and .283 BAA in five starts. Â The Cleveland righty has not fared well against the Red Sox, who enter #1 in MLB in batting average, OBP, and OPS. Â We should also note that the Indians have won just 3 of 16 against starting pitchers with a .800 or better win percentage, scoring just 3.1 rpg in those 16 outings, while allowing 6.1 rpg. Â I'm backing the Boston Red Sox, my Game-1 Knockout. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |

10-04-16 | Orioles +141 v. Blue Jays | Top | 2-5 | Loss | -100 | 20 h 51 m | Show |
I'm backing the underdog Orioles on Tuesday night. Â The back of the Blue Jays' bullpen limps into the postseason with both Jason Grilli and Roberto Osuna struggling. Â Baltimore owns the advantage in the pen and the Jays have made the choice to start Marcus Stroman, likely because they want to be able to bring Francisco Liriano out of the pen if needed. But the Jays enter just 3-8 in Stroman's last 11 starts against teams with a winning record, while the O's enter on an 8-0 run when Chris Tillman starts on the road against winning teams. Â The Orioles were 4-0 this season when the righty toed the rubber against the Jays and he held a 3.63 ERA in those outings. Stroman did not fare so well against Baltimore, getting tagged for a 7.04 ERA in four starts in 2016. Â Both teams hit the long ball, but like virtually everything else in this matchup, the Orioles are just a little bit better. Â We believe these advantages will translate onto the diamond where Baltimore will come away with the Wildcard win. Â I'm backing the underdog Orioles on Tuesday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |

09-28-16 | Mariners -112 v. Astros | Top | 12-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 44 m | Show |
I'm backing the Mariners on Wednesday afternoon. Â Neither team can afford to lose many more games, but Seattle has the edge in this matchup with James Paxton, who has recorded three quality starts in a row, including a good effort against the Astros when he gave up two runs and four hits in seven innings. Â Paxton has allowed just five runs his last 20 innings with 19 strikeouts. Â Houston won 8-4 on Tuesday, but the Astros still have lost four of their last six games while the Mariners have won four of their last six. Â Also, Seattle is 9-2 its last 11 road games. Â Houston has lost Doug Fister's last six starts and he hasn't made it past the fifth inning in any of them. Â Fister is 3-6 with a 4.22 ERA at home and he is 0-3 with a 10.38 ERA in September. Â Also, the Mariners have hammered him to the tune of 16 runs and 20 hits in 21 innings this season. Â I'm backing the Mariners, my Daytime Value Beatdown. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-24-16 | Mariners -125 v. Twins | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -125 | 18 h 8 m | Show |
I'm backing the Mariners on Saturday. Minnesota lost again last night 10-1 to the Mariners for its seventh loss in a row and a loss tonight would be the Twins' 100th of the season. Â Minnesota has lost 28 of its last 32 games against winning teams and 18 of its last 23 home games while Seattle has won its last seven road games. Ariel Miranda has won four starts in a row while allowing only six earned runs and 14 hits in 25 innings for a 4-0 record and 2.16 ERA in September. Â Tyler Duffey is 8-11 with a 6.39 ERA and the Twins have lost his last four outings and in three of them he didn't make it out of the fourth inning. Â Duffey has an 8.47 ERA in night games and 6.95 at home and if he were on any other team would probably not be in the major leagues. Â Seattle can't afford many more losses as it fights for a playoff spot. Â I'm backing the Mariners, my Situational Beatdown. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
09-23-16 | Braves +121 v. Marlins | Top | 3-2 | Win | 121 | 17 h 1 m | Show |
I'm backing the Braves on Friday night. Atlanta won its sixth in a row at Miami on Thursday as the Braves try to end the season on a positive note as their youth movement starts to pay dividends. Matt Wisler has won three of his last four starts, including 6-2 over Washington on Sunday when he allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings. Â The Marlins have lost six of Andrew Cashner's last eight starts and he is 5-11 with a 5.27 ERA on the season. Â Cashner gave up seven runs and six hits in just two innings against the Braves on Sept. 12 and his September ERA is 8.82. Â He'll face a team on a 7-2 run on the road against right-handed starters. Â Atlanta has won 15 of its last 23 games and Freddie Freeman has a 42-game on-base streak and 26-game hitting streak. Â Miami has lost 29 of its last 48 games. I'm backing the Braves my DogPound GOW. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-22-16 | Red Sox -144 v. Orioles | Top | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 17 h 13 m | Show |
I'm backing Boston on Thursday. Â The Red Sox have won seven in a row, including the first two games of this series, while Baltimore has not scored more than two runs in any of its last five games. Â David Price is on the mound for the Red Sox and the Orioles are 27th in the major leagues with a .688 OPS against left-handers. Â Boston has won Price's last eight starts and he went six straight games without giving up more than two runs until his last start against the Yankees when he didn't get the decision in a 6-5 win. Â Baltimore hitters have a .162 batting average against Price this year and in one appearance at Camden Yards, he allowed one run and four hits in six innings. Chris Tillman has lost four of his last six decisions, including 5-2 against Tampa Bay on Saturday when he allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings. I'm backing the Red Sox, my Thursday Mismatch. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-21-16 | Yankees -123 v. Rays | Top | 11-5 | Win | 100 | 17 h 56 m | Show |
I'm backing the Yankees on Wednesday. New York recovered from its disaster in Boston and beat the Rays 5-3 on Tuesday. Â Masahiro Tanaka is 13-4 with a 2.97 ERA and has not allowed more than two runs in his last six starts of which the Yankees have won five. Tanaka pitched well at Boston on Thursday giving up a run and four hits in seven innings before the bullpen blew it. The right-hander has a 2.11 ERA on the road and is 3-0 with a .170 opponent batting average against Tampa Bay this year. Â Also, he's given up only four runs in 18 innings on turf fields for a 1.50 ERA. Alex Cobb will make his fourth start since Tommy John surgery and on Sept. 8 the Yankees scored four runs on nine hits against him in six innings. Â New York has won Tanaka's last seven starts against the Rays, and they're on a 7-0 run on the road against teams with a losing record. Â I'm backing the Yankees, my Wednesday Wipeout. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-20-16 | Red Sox v. Orioles -130 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -130 | 16 h 55 m | Show |
I'm backing the Orioles on Tuesday. Baltimore lost to Rick Porcello and the Red Sox on Monday but now the Orioles go up against Eduardo Rodriguez, who through a combination of bad pitching and bad luck has not won a decision since July 16. Rodriguez is 2-7 with a 4.98 ERA and has allowed seven runs and 14 hits in 14 1/3 innings pitched against Baltimore this season. Â The Red Sox have lost 10 of Rodriguez's last 14 starts. Â Kevin Gausman has given up more than three runs just once his last nine starts and a total of three runs his last five outings. Â Gausman pitched eight shutout innings in a 1-0 win at Boston on Wednesday and he is 6-1 with a 2.27 ERA at home this season. Baltimore has won Gausman's last seven home starts and five of his last six overall. Baltimore is 47-28 at home. I'm backing the Orioles, my KO release. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-19-16 | Blue Jays v. Mariners -112 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -112 | 21 h 30 m | Show |
I'm backing the Mariners on Monday. Toronto continues to struggle as it lost again on Sunday for its 11th loss in its last 16 games and Marco Estrada has been part of the problem as he comes off three losses in a row. Â The Blue Jays have lost his last three starts by a combined score of 28-9 and he's given up 25 runs (24 earned) 36 hits in his last 28 2/3 innings and his September ERA is 8.53. Â Taijuan Walker appears to be back on track after making an adjustment to his mechanics last time out, pitching a shutout at the Angels on Tuesday. Â He took Mel Stottlemyre's words to heart and surrendered only three hits, crediting the improvement to the change. Â Seattle has won nine of its last 11 games overall and has won six of the last seven meetings at home. I'm backing the Mariners on Monday, my Mismatch release. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-18-16 | Astros v. Mariners -104 | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 14 h 49 m | Show
I'm playing the Mariners on Sunday. Seattle will try to salvage the final game against Houston after winning eight in a row coming into this series. Â Doug Fister has been knocked around his last four starts and the Astros have lost them all. Â Fister has allowed 21 runs (18 earned) and 32 hits in 17 1/3 innings pitched and he has an 11.08 ERA in September. Â Also, Fister has a 4.67 ERA in three games against the Mariners this season and he's given up six runs and nine hits in 11 innings at Safeco Field. Â Ariel Miranda has won his last three starts and he shut out the Angels on three hits in six innings in an 8-1 Seattle win on Monday. Â Miranda is 3-0 at home and the Astros will be seeing him for the first time. Â Seattle has won 14 of its last 21 home games against right-handed starters. I'm backing the Mariners, my Sunday Smash. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-13-16 | Indians +108 v. White Sox | Top | 1-8 | Loss | -100 | 18 h 2 m | Show |
I'm backing the Indians on Tuesday night. Â Cleveland has won eight of the last 10 meetings with the White Sox and nine of the last 13 in Chicago even after Monday's loss. Â The Indians have won six of Trevor Bauer's last seven starts and 26 of their last 36 against left-handed starters. Â Bauer was fortunate to get a win his last outing, which was a 10-7 win over Houston, but he has a 3.13 road ERA and has faced Chicago twice this year and allowed one run in nine innings. Â Bauer was 3-1 with a 2.88 ERA versus the White Sox last season with a .174 opponent batting average. Â Jose Quintana has been shaky his last two outings giving up 11 runs and 15 hits in 11 2/3 innings against Minnesota and Detroit and he's 0-2 against the Indians this season. Â Cleveland is fourth in the majors with a .272 batting average against lefties. Â The AL Central leaders opened as an underdog in this matchup. Â We'll look to take advantage. I'm backing the Indians, my Value Beatdown. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-12-16 | Rockies +100 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 9-12 | Loss | -100 | 21 h 30 m | Show |
I'm backing the Rockies on Monday night. Â Arizona traded three top prospects for Shelby Miller and it's turned into a disaster as he's 2-11 with a 6.89 ERA and the Diamondbacks have lost eight of his last nine starts. Â Miller gave up five runs, four earned and 11 hits in only 4 1/3 innings against the Dodgers on Tuesday. Â He is 0-7 with a 7.50 ERA at home this season and in 15 2/3 innings pitched against the Rockies, Miller has allowed 16 runs (all earned) and 23 hits. Â Colorado has won its last four games in Arizona. Â Tyler Anderson pitched well his last start allowing two runs in 7 1/3 innings, however, the Rockies lost 3-2 to San Francisco. Â Anderson has given up a total of four runs his last three outings in 18 2/3 innings. The Diamondbacks are 25-46 at home and have lost their last six games overall. I'm playing the Rockies, my Mismatch on Monday. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-12-16 | Pirates -130 v. Phillies | 2-6 | Loss | -130 | 18 h 57 m | Show
I'm backing the Pirates on Monday. Both teams are on three-game losing streaks, however, Pittsburgh still has a remote chance of a wild card spot while Philadelphia's young team has run out of gas. Â Gerrit Cole will make his first start since Aug. 24 after going on the disabled list due to elbow inflammation. Â This looks like the right opponent for Cole's return as he allowed one run in six innings against the Phillies this season and he had a 2.08 ERA against them last year in 13 innings pitched. Â Jeremy Hellickson appears to be a tired pitcher as the Phillies have lost his last three starts by a combined score of 26-5 and he has given up 13 runs, 12 earned and 21 hits in 16 innings. Â The Pirates have won five of the last six meetings and they actually have been better on the road than at home winning eight of their last 11 away from home. Â Philly has lost seven straight home games. I'm backing the Pirates, my Monday night Smash. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-11-16 | Mets -137 v. Braves | Top | 10-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 32 m | Show |
I'm backing the NY Mets on Sunday. Â New York has been forced to go with some rookies for its starting rotation and the results have been good so far, including Seth Lugo, who has a 2.38 ERA and has not allowed more than three runs his last four outings of which the Mets have won the last three. Â Lugo pitched seven innings against Washington last Sunday and gave up a run and six hits with no walks as the Mets won 5-1. Atlanta will be facing him for the first time. The Braves won Saturday's game in 10 innings, however, they still have lost four of their last five games and the Mets have won six of seven. Â Williams Perez has a 5.47 ERA and picked up where he left off as he returned from the disabled list allowing six runs and eight hits, including a grand slam, in 2 1/3 innings at Washington. Â In his final start before going on the DL, he gave up six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. New York has won 10 of its last 13 meetings in Atlanta. Â I'm backing the Mets, my Daytime Dominator. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-10-16 | Rays v. Yankees -140 | Top | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 23 m | Show |
I'm backing the NY Yankees on Saturday afternoon. Â Chris Archer has pitched much better since the All-Star break but he still is closing in on 20 losses for the weak-hitting Rays. Â In his last start against the Yankees on Aug. 12, Archer allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings in a 6-3 loss. His home ERA is 2.63 compared to 5.79 on the road and the Rays have lost nine of Archer's last 10 road starts against winning teams. Â Also, Tampa Bay has lost 25 of its last 33 road games overall. Â Masahiro Tanaka is 12-4 and New York has won his last six starts. Tanaka has given up just four runs with 22 strikeouts his last 26 innings and Tampa Bay hitters are batting .162 against him in 21 innings pitched this season. The Yankees have won Tanaka's last six starts against the Rays. New York has won six straight overall and is only four games out of first place as Joe Girardi continues to work his magic. Â We'll lay the price with the Yankees. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
09-08-16 | Rangers +106 v. Mariners | Top | 3-6 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 7 m | Show |
I'm backing the Rangers on Thursday. Texas lost to the Mariners last night but the Rangers still are in first place by 8 1/2 games and 26 games over .500 and getting good line value in this matchup. Â Derek Holland has recorded three quality starts in a row while allowing only four runs in 18 innings and just one home run. Â The Rangers have won six of his last eight starts, including 12-4 over Houston on Saturday. Â Meanwhile, Taijuan Walker has been getting shelled to the tune of 25 runs, 23 earned and 28 hits his last five starts in 21 2/3 innings. Â Walker didn't make it out of the first inning his last start when the Angels scored six runs, including back-to-back-to-back homers, before he was mercifully taken out. Â Walker is 4-10 with a 4.60 ERA on the season and he had a 6.88 ERA in August. Texas has scored seven runs on 14 hits in 11 innings against him this year. And we should note, the Mariners are just 1-5 when Walker throws on four days rest. Â I'm backing the Rangers, my Knockout on Thursday. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-07-16 | Rangers -107 v. Mariners | Top | 3-8 | Loss | -107 | 19 h 7 m | Show |
I'm backing the Rangers on Wednesday. The due factor is against Seattle starter Ariel Miranda as he gave up four runs and five hits in six innings against the Angels on Friday but he was able to get the win as the Mariners banged out 13 hits in an 11-8 win. Miranda had a 4.98 ERA in August and he has walked 11 batters his last 20 2/3 innings pitched. Â Texas is eighth in the major leagues in OPS against left-handers and second in batting average. A.J. Griffin pitched six shutout innings against Cleveland before allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings against Houston. Â The Rangers have won six of his last eight starts he's 3-2 with a 3.44 ERA in his career against Seattle. Â The Rangers are on a 17-5 winning run against starting pitchers with a WHIP above 1.30 and Texas has won six of the last seven meetings with Seattle. Â I'm backing the Texas Rangers, my Wednesday Wipeout. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-07-16 | Giants v. Rockies -116 | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 18 h 1 m | Show
I'm backing the Rockies on Wednesday. Albert Suarez will make his ninth start of the season and in his last four appearances he has allowed 11 runs and 19 hits in just 14 1/3 innings. Suarez heads into Coors Field with a 5.09 road ERA giving up 20 earned runs and 36 hits in 35 1/3 innings. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 6.19 ERA since the All-Star break. Â Jorge De la Rosa gave up five runs in five innings in a 14-7 Colorado win over Arizona on Friday, however, all the runs were unearned and the Rockies have won his last three starts. Â San Francisco has lost five of its last six road games against left-handed starters and Colorado has won 10 of De La Rosa's last 13 home starts against the Giants. Â Also, Colorado has won 59 of De La Rosa's last 79 home starts overall. The Giants are 23rd in the majors with a .721 OPS versus lefties. Â I'm backing the Rockies on Wednesday, my Mismatch. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
09-06-16 | Tigers -106 v. White Sox | 0-2 | Loss | -106 | 20 h 13 m | Show
I'm backing the Tigers on Tuesday. Detroit has been hot and cold all season and right now the Tigers are hot again winning six of their last seven games, including yesterday when they beat Chicago in 11 innings for their fourth straight win over the White Sox. Matt Boyd is 5-2 and the Tigers have won his last six starts, including a win over the White Sox on Aug. 29. Â In his three previous games, Boyd allowed only four runs and 12 hits in 19 innings. Â The left-hander was 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA in August and he's 5-0 since the All-Star break. Â Miguel Gonzalez is 2-4 and making his first start since coming off the disabled list. Â Gonzalez has allowed seven runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings against Detroit this year and the Tigers are batting .391 against him the last three seasons. Â Detroit has won eight of its last nine road games and the White Sox have lost 10 of their last 13 division games. Â I'm backing the Tigers, my MLB Smash. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-06-16 | Royals +100 v. Twins | Top | 10-3 | Win | 100 | 20 h 15 m | Show |
I'm backing the Royals on Tuesday night. Â Minnesota recently broke a 13-game losing streak but the Twins have reverted to their losing ways with their third loss in four games yesterday against the Royals. Minnesota is 27-43 at home and on pace to lose 102 games this season. Â Ervin Santana escaped with a win his last start even though he gave up 11 hits and walked two batters in only five innings. Â In his previous start, Santana allowed six runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings in an 8-7 loss at Toronto. Â The right-hander has a 4.86 ERA against Kansas City in 16 2/3 innings this year. Dillon Gee pitched a scoreless inning in relief on Friday and before that he had three decent outings with the Royals winning two of them. Â Kansas City has won 24 of its last 33 meetings in Minnesota and nine of its last 11 road games overall. Â We're getting a bargain price against the worst team in baseball. Â I'm backing the KC Royals, my Road Warrior. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-05-16 | Mets -118 v. Reds | 5-0 | Win | 100 | 11 h 15 m | Show
I'm backing the Mets on Monday.  New York won the last two games of its series against Washington and they have won Bartolo Colon's last three starts as he takes the mound today against the Reds.  Colon gave up one earned run and walked no one in seven innings against Miami on Wednesday.  The ageless right-hander was 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA in August and New York  has won 23 of Colon's last 30 starts when it's the first game of a series.  The Mets have beaten Cincinnati 11 games in a row, including a three-game sweep in April. Robert Stephenson will make his third start of the season, but his first since April 19.  Stephenson had a 4.41 ERA in 24 starts in Triple-A and had some control problems as he walked 10 batters his last 15 innings pitched.  New York has won 11 of its last 15 games as it makes a run for a Wild Card spot.  I'm playing the Mets, my Daytime Dominator.  Thanks & GL!  Scott Spreitzer. |

09-05-16 | Orioles +111 v. Rays | Top | 7-3 | Win | 111 | 11 h 16 m | Show |
I'm backing the Orioles on Monday. Ubaldo Jimenez has put together two decent outings with Baltimore winning his latest start 5-3 over Toronto. Â Jimenez allowed four runs in 12 2/3 innings and more importantly for him, walked only a total of two batters in the two games. Â August was his best month since April and in six innings against Tampa Bay this season, Jimenez gave up three runs. Â The last three years against the Rays, Jimenez has a 0.68 ERA in 13 1/3 innings. Â The Orioles have won seven of the last eight meetings and Tampa Bay has lost six of Matt Andriese's last seven starts. Â Andriese has been pummeled his last four starts allowing 21 runs and 32 hits, including eight home runs, in 20 1/3 innings. The right-hander was 0-4 with a 7.76 ERA in August. Â Baltimore is third in the majors with an .801 OPS against right-handers. Â We'll back the Orioles, my Daytime DogPound on Monday. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |

09-04-16 | Giants v. Cubs -132 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 18 m | Show |
I'm backing the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. San Francisco managed a win yesterday but the Giants are 16-29 since the All-Star break and Chicago still has won five of its last six games and is 39 games over .500. John Lackey will make his first start since August 14 after going on the disabled list to rest his shoulder. Â Lackey has pitched five quality starts in a row allowing eight earned runs in 33 2/3 innings. Â The right-hander has a 2.47 ERA at home this season and had a 1.66 ERA overall in August. Â Johnny Cueto had a rough outing his last start when he gave up four runs and five hits with four walks in 4 2/3 innings in a 4-3 loss to Arizona. Â Cueto has a 4.45 ERA against the Cubs the last three years and the Cubs are 58-19 their last 77 home games against right-handed starters. Â Also, the Cubs are 50-20 at home this year and the Giants have lost five of Cueto's last seven starts. Â We'll take advantage of Chicago being a relatively small favorite and go with the Cubs, my Afternoon Mismatch. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
09-04-16 | Tigers +114 v. Royals | 6-5 | Win | 114 | 11 h 1 m | Show
I'm backing the Tigers on Sunday. Detroit lost to the Royals last night but the Tigers still have won nine of their last 12 games and have the edge in this matchup with Daniel Norris against Edinson Volquez. Â Kansas City lost Volquez's last start against the Yankees when he allowed four runs and nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings. Â Volquez is 10-10 with a 5.01 ERA overall and he had a 6.37 ERA in August. Â Daniel Norris has given Detroit five or six solid innings his last five appearances and the Tigers have won his last two starts as he finished with nine strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings. Â In one outing against the Royals this season, Norris allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings. The Tigers have won six of their last seven road games and Kansas City has lost six of its last eight home games versus left-handed starters. Â I'm backing the Tigers, my Daytime Dominator. Â Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
09-03-16 | Nationals -124 v. Mets | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -124 | 17 h 52 m | Show |
I'm backing the Nationals on Saturday. Washington won its fourth straight 4-1 over the Mets on Friday and tonight Tanner Roark, who is 14-7 with a 2.87 ERA, is on the mound for the Nationals. Washington has won six of Roark's last seven starts, including 4-0 at Philadelphia on Monday when the right-hander pitched seven shutout innings and allowing just four hits and one walk. Roark was 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA in August and he's given up one earned run in 9 1/3 innings against New York this season. Â Rookie Robert Gsellman will make his second start for the Mets, who lost his first outing 5-1 against the Phillies when Gsellman allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings. Â The Nationals are 41-29 on the road and have scored more runs in away games than any team except St. Louis. Washington has won Roark's last five road starts and the Nationals have beaten the Mets four in a row while allowing a total of five runs. Â I'm backing the Nationals, my Saturday Knockout. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-02-16 | Cardinals v. Reds +116 | 2-3 | Win | 116 | 17 h 31 m | Show
I'm backing the undervalued Reds on Friday. Â Cincinnati's road trip didn't end well, but now the Reds are back home where they are only a game under .500 and have Anthony DeSclafani on the mound in an underdog role. Â DeSclafani is 8-2 with a 2.96 ERA and he pitched a shutout at Arizona on Saturday as the Reds won 13-0. Â It was a masterpiece for the right-hander, who allowed only four hits and one walk while striking out nine. DeSclafani is 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA at home and Cincy has won five of his last six home starts. Â The Reds had a much-needed off day on Thursday and they have won five of their last six after a day of rest. Â Alex Reyes will make the second start of his career and this season Reyes has pitched 14 innings and allowed one run with 17 strikeouts, but with eight walks. Â In his first start against Oakland, Reyes walked four batters in 4 2/3 innings. Â The rookie's problems with command of his pitches doesn't bode well in a hitter's park such as Great American Ball Park. Â We believe his tendency to award free passes will catch up with him tonight. Â I'm backing the Cincinnati Reds, my Friday Slam. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
09-01-16 | White Sox -112 v. Twins | Top | 5-8 | Loss | -112 | 20 h 34 m | Show |
I'm backing the White Sox on Thursday night. Â Minnesota has lost 13 straight and has a 25-40 home record and yet the Chicago White Sox have been installed as just a slight favorite in this game even though Jose Quintana has not given up more than three runs since July 9. Quintana has pitched eight quality starts in a row and the White Sox have won seven of his last 10 starts. The left-hander had a 2.29 ERA in August and has pitched much better than his 11-9 record indicates. Â Also, Quintana is 2-1 with a 2.36 ERA in 26 2/3 innings against the Twins this year and has allowed just two runs in 12 2/3 innings at Target Field. Â Ervin Santana was pummeled for six runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings at Toronto on Saturday and the White Sox are hitting .303 against him this season. Â Minnesota has lost 10 of Santana's 13 home starts. I'm backing the White Sox, my Value Beatdown. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
08-31-16 | Reds +139 v. Angels | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 15 m | Show
I'm backing the underdog Reds on Wednesday. Â Ricky Nolasco has been one of the most overpaid pitchers in baseball for quite some time and Minnesota was fortunate that the Los Angeles Angels inexplicably traded for him on Aug. 1. Â The Angels have since lost all five of his starts and Nolasco's ERA with the Angels is 5.70. Â He allowed four runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 4-2 loss at Detroit on Friday. Â Nolasco is 0-6 at home this season whether with the Twins or Angels. Â Brandon Finnegan has had five of six quality starts since July 29 and in three of them he allowed no runs. Â He pitched well his last start at Arizona giving up two runs and three hits in six innings. Â Finnegan's August ERA is 2.67 and he's 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA since the All-Star break. Â The Angels have lost 16 of their last 21 interleague games versus left-handed starters. There is great line value with the road underdog. Â I'm backing the Cincinnati Reds, my Underdog Shocker. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
08-31-16 | Blue Jays -141 v. Orioles | Top | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 17 h 17 m | Show |
I'm backing the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Â Aaron Sanchez is 12-2 with a 2.99 ERA and pitching on extra rest after giving up five runs and four hits in four innings in a 6-5 Toronto win at Cleveland on Aug. 20. Â That was only the second time since June 12 that he had allowed more than two runs. Â Sanchez is 7-1 with a 2.70 ERA on the road and he's 2-0 against Baltimore this season, including a win at Camden Yards when he gave up one earned run in six innings. Â The Blue Jays have won 14 of Sanchez's last 20 starts. Â Yovani Gallardo was the losing pitcher his last two starts, including being torched for eight runs, seven earned and six hits in just 1 1/3 innings at Yankee Stadium on Friday. Â Gallardo hasn't fared well against the Blue Jays either this season as they have scored seven runs and banged out 10 hits in 9 1/3 innings versus the right-hander. Â Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion and Troy Tulowitzki are a combined 24-for-64 (.375) against Gallardo. Â The Orioles have lost eight of their last 11 after a win. Â I'm backing the Blue Jays on Wednesday, my Wednesday Wipeout. Â Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
08-30-16 | Yankees -128 v. Royals | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 18 h 1 m | Show
I'm backing the NY Yankees on Tuesday. Masahiro Tanaka has not allowed a run his last two starts in 14 2/3 innings pitched with just one walk and 14 strikeouts and New York has won his last four outings. Tanaka is 6-3 with a 2.09 ERA on the road and he is 4-1 with a 2.91 ERA in August. Edinson Volquez got a win at Miami on Thursday when he gave up two runs in five innings, however, in his five previous starts Volquez allowed 26 runs, 22 earned and 41 hits in 27 1/3 innings pitched. The Yankees have won five of Tanaka's last seven road starts and the Royals have lost Volquez's last five starts against AL East teams. Look for New York to bounce back from last night's loss. I'm backing the Yankees, my Road Warrior. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-29-16 | Dodgers -124 v. Rockies | Top | 1-8 | Loss | -124 | 19 h 35 m | Show |
I'm backing the Dodgers on Monday night. The Dodgers have won Kenta Maeda's last six starts and he has not allowed more than three runs in any of them. Maeda is 8-2 on the road and is one of the few pitchers who is not intimidated at Coors Field where he is 2-0 this season with a 1.50 ERA and .163 opponent batting average. Also, overall against the Rockies this season, Maeda has given up just three runs and 12 hits in 18 2/3 innings. Colorado has lost three of Jon Gray's last four starts and he has been touched for 21 runs (20 earned) in 18 innings. Gray has a 7.83 ERA in August and he has allowed eight runs and 15 hits in 16 innings pitched against the Dodgers this season. Los Angeles has won six of its last eight games and the Rockies are back home with no rest after a road trip which ended in Washington yesterday. I'm backing the Dodgers, my Monday Mismatch. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-28-16 | Indians v. Rangers +101 | 1-2 | Win | 101 | 10 h 22 m | Show
I'm backing the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Danny Salazar has a good record of 11-5 but much of it can be attributed to some early season success and good run support. Since July 4, which included a stint on the disabled list, Salazer has allowed 31 runs (30 earned) and 44 hits in only 29 innings pitched. Oakland pounded him for six runs and eight hits in four innings on Tuesday as Cleveland lost 9-1 to the Athletics. Salazar gave up six runs in two innings against Minnesota on Aug. 1 and his August ERA is 19.29. Derek Holland made a successful return from the disabled list allowing one run and four hits in six innings against Cincinnati although the Reds won the game 3-0. Holland has pitched six innings against the Indians this year and gave up one run. Texas is 41-21 at home and has won seven of the last 10 meetings after last night's 7-0 win. The Rangers are my Daytime Dominator. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-28-16 | Pirates -127 v. Brewers | Top | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 9 h 26 m | Show |
I'm backing the Pirates on Sunday. Pittsburgh has won all four of Ivan Nova's starts since he was acquired from the Yankees, including 7-1 over Houston on Tuesday when Nova pitched a complete game while throwing only 98 pitches. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA in August with 18 strikeouts while walking just one batter. The Pirates have won seven road games in a row and obviously they have broken the jinx that had them losing nine straight at Miller Park coming into this series. Chase Anderson is 7-10 with a 4.99 ERA and seldom is good for more than five innings. Anderson is 0-3 with a 4.42 ERA in day games and he's allowed 11 runs (eight earned) and 19 hits in 14 2/3 innings against the Pirates this season and last season combined. Milwaukee has lost nine of its last 13 games and closing in on last place in the NL Central. I'm backing the Pirates, my Daytime Knockout on Sunday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-27-16 | Reds -105 v. Diamondbacks | 13-0 | Win | 100 | 17 h 55 m | Show
I'm backing the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. Zack Godley's stats have been ungodly this season as he has a 5.53 ERA overall and 5.86 at home. He has made one appearance against Cincinnati this year and allowed five runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Reds hitters have a combined .357 batting average versus Godley in 28 at-bats. The right-hander gave up seven runs and nine hits in five innings his last outing against Atlanta. Anthony DeSclafani is 7-2 with a 3.27 ERA and has been the victim of poor run support in recent outings, however, he has given up more than three runs just twice his last 12 starts. Arizona is 24-42 at home and has lost 40 of its last 59 games against right-handed starters. Cincinnati has won 17 of its last 25 games in Arizona and they're 12-4 following a loss. I'm backing the Reds, my Knockout on Saturday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-26-16 | Cubs -111 v. Dodgers | Top | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 20 h 45 m | Show |
I'm backing the Chicago Cubs on Friday night. Mike Montgomery gets the start for Chicago to give John Lackey some rest and the plan is for him to pitch about four innings before bringing in Trevor Cahill which was a winning formula in a 9-2 win at Colorado on Saturday. Montgomery allowed just one run and one hit in 4 1/3 innings against the Rockies and Cahill gave up a run in 4 2/3 innings. The Dodgers have totaled one run their last two games and came within an out of being no-hit last night by Matt Moore. Bud Norris pitched 2/3 innings in relief in Monday's blowout win in Cincinnati after getting pummeled for six runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings against the Reds last Friday. The Cubs have won 22 of their last 27 games and four of their last five meetings with the Dodgers. This line is solid value for a team that is 36 games over .500 and we'll back the Cubs, my Value Beatdown. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-26-16 | Pirates -117 v. Brewers | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 18 h 44 m | Show
I'm backing the Pirates on Friday. Ryan Vogelsong is making another comeback, this time after being hit in the face by a pitch in May, and he's had three out of four quality starts in August. Vogelsong allowed three runs and three hits in six innings his last outing. Pittsburgh lost his three best pitched games due to scoring a total of four runs and won his other start 8-5 at San Francisco when he gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings. Matt Garza is 4-5 with a 5.27 ERA and he comes off a game in which he was knocked around for six runs (five earned) and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings although Milwaukee managed to win at Seattle 7-6 on Sunday. In two appearances against the Pirates this season, Garza has allowed seven runs (five earned) and 12 hits in 10 innings. Pittsburgh beat the Brewers 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday for its fifth road win in a row. Meanwhile, the Brewers have won just 3 of Garza's 13 starts against teams with a winning record. We'll back the Pirates on Friday, our Road Warrior. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-25-16 | Royals v. Marlins -106 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -106 | 16 h 56 m | Show |
I'm backing the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Kansas City has won Edinson Volquez's last two starts but it wasn't due to his pitching. Volquez has given up 26 runs (22 earned) and 41 hits his last five starts covering 27 1/3 innings. The right-hander is 9-10 with a 5.04 ERA on the season and 3-7 and 6.18 on the road and the Royals have lost five of his last seven road starts. Tom Koehler has pitched six quality starts in a row and Miami has won five of them, including a 6-5 win at Pittsburgh on Friday when he allowed two runs in six innings while walking none. Koehler has given up only seven earned runs in those six outings and he has an overall 2.16 ERA in August. The Royals are last in the majors with a .668 road OPS. Koehler has a .208 opponent batting average since the All-Star break. I'm backing the Miami Marlins as they looks to win their 5th straight Tom Koehler home start. The Marlins are my Knockout release. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-24-16 | Tigers +109 v. Twins | Top | 9-4 | Win | 109 | 18 h 56 m | Show |
I'm backing the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday evening. The streaky Detroit Tigers go for their third straight win tonight against Minnesota, which has lost five in a row after Tuesday's 8-3 win by the Tigers. Matt Boyd comes off two impressive performances allowing one run and five hits in six innings against Boston after pitching six shutout innings at Texas and the Tigers winning both games. Also, Boyd blanked the Twins for six innings on July 18. Tyler Duffey is 8-9 with a 5.93 ERA and after a couple good outings reverted back to his old form giving up five runs, including an Alex Gordon grand slam, in 3 2/3 innings at Kansas City on Thursday. Duffey has a 6.67 ERA at home and 8.03 in night games. Detroit has won eight of the last 10 meetings and Minnesota has lost six of its last seven home games and continues to have the worst record in the American League. I'm backing the Tigers, my Wednesday Wipeout. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-24-16 | Yankees v. Mariners -109 | 5-0 | Loss | -109 | 13 h 27 m | Show
I'm backing the Mariners on Wednesday afternoon. Hisashi Iwakuma is 14-8 with a 3.78 ERA and has allowed more than three runs just once his last eight starts. Seattle has won eight of his last 10 starts and he is 8-2 at home where he hasn't allowed a run his last three starts in 21 1/3 innings. Also, Iwakuma has a 1.69 ERA in August, including allowing three runs and six hits in seven innings at the Angels on Thursday. The Mariners have won Iwakuma's last eight home starts. Masahiro Tanaka pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings against the Angels his last outing, however, he gave up 18 runs (13 earned) and 25 hits his three previous road contests. Seattle has won 19 of its last 27 home games and 13 of its last 18 overall. They're on a 20-6 winning run when Iwakuma toes the home rubber against teams with a winning record. The Yanks have had their share of success at SAFECO, but we feel Iwakuma is the man to "right the Seattle ship." The Mariners are my Daytime Dominator. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-23-16 | Rangers v. Reds -102 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 17 h 42 m | Show |
I'm backing the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. Cincinnati got walloped by the Dodgers 18-9 on Monday but look for the Reds to get a much better pitched game from Dan Straily who is 9-6 with a 3.72 ERA and who has not given up more than three runs his last nine starts and the Reds have won his last seven starts. Also, Straily is 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA at home and Cincy is 11-3 its last 14 games after a loss. Derek Holland is making his first appearance since June 20 due to a shoulder injury and he didn't do so well in his last rehab assignment allowing four runs and five hits in five innings. Holland is 5-5 with a 5.20 ERA on the season and he was inconsistent before the injury, including one game against Toronto when he gave up 11 runs in 2 2/3 innings. I'm backing the Reds, my Value Beatdown. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-22-16 | Rockies -115 v. Brewers | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -115 | 16 h 16 m | Show |
I'm backing the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Â Milwaukee managed to salvage the last game of a seven-game road trip with a 7-6 win at Seattle after losing the first six. Â Jimmy Nelson is 6-13 with a 4.31 ERA overall, but he has allowed 34 runs (25 earned) and 39 hits his last six starts in 28 innings and the Brewers lost them all. Â The Cubs roughed him up for six runs and six hits, including two homers, on Wednesday. Â Nelson has a 10.31 ERA in August and the Brewers are 2-12 in Nelson's last 14 starts. Â Colorado has won four of its last five games, including two of three against the Chicago Cubs. Â Chad Bettis is 10-6 and the Rockies have won seven of his last eight starts. Â His last outing was cut short due to a rain delay after he gave up two runs and five hits in three innings against Washington. Â Bettis faced Milwaukee once last year and allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings. Â I'm backing the Rockies, my Monday Beatdown. Thanks & GL! Â Scott Spreitzer. |
08-21-16 | Yankees -121 v. Angels | Top | 0-2 | Loss | -121 | 13 h 47 m | Show |
I'm backing the NY Yankees on Sunday. Joe Girardi is doing another tremendous job with the Yankees, who are still in the running for a playoff spot even though they appear to be going to a youth movement. New York beat the Angels for the sixth straight time this season on Saturday and the only run Los Angeles has scored this series was an Albert Pujols homer. Chad Green got the win with six shutout innings as the Yanks beat Toronto 1-0 on Monday. The Angels will face him for the first time. Jhoulys Chacin is a journeyman pitcher who is fortunate to still be in the big leagues. Chacin is 3-8 with a 5.92 ERA and he has allowed 11 runs and 13 hits his last six innings pitched. Also, he has given up 15 runs in 18 2/3 innings in day games this season for a 7.23 ERA. The Yankees have won seven of their last 10 and the Angels have lost 14 of their last 16. I'm backing the Yankees, my Mismatch on Sunday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-20-16 | Red Sox -128 v. Tigers | Top | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 18 h 14 m | Show |
I'm backing the Red Sox on Saturday. Detroit came within 2 1/2 games of first place but since has gone into another tailspin losing nine of its last 12 games, including a 10-2 blowout loss to Boston last night. The Red Sox have won seven of their last eight and Drew Pomeranz is coming off three decent starts in a row allowing five runs in 19 innings with the Sox winning two of the three. Pomeranz faced the Tigers on July 25 and gave up two runs and four hits in six innings. Daniel Norris lost his last start against Kansas City as he gave up two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings but he walked four batters. Norris has alternated between the minors and majors this season while also recovering from injuries. His longest stint was 5 1/3 innings against the Royals. Boston has won nine of its last 12 against southpaw starters and it leads the majors with a .283 batting average against lefties. The Red Sox are my Mismatch on Saturday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
08-20-16 | Dodgers v. Reds +151 | 1-11 | Win | 151 | 17 h 55 m | Show
I'm backing the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. Los Angeles has lost two in a row after Friday's 9-2 loss in Cincinnati while the Reds have won four straight. Left-hander Brandon Finnegan has faced the Dodgers once this year and allowed one run and five hits in eight innings. The Dodgers are 28th in the major leagues with a .669 OPS against lefties and they are dead last with just a .228 batting average versus southpaws. The Reds have won five of Finnegan's last seven starts. Brett Anderson has been installed as a prohibitive favorite in this matchup even though Pittsburgh pounded him to the tune of five runs and five hits in one inning on Sunday. It was Anderson's first appearance of the season after recovering from back surgery and now he'll have to try again in a hitter's park and the Dodgers are just 1-7 when the lefty pitches on five days rest. I'm backing the Reds, my DogPound release. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer. |
