08-05-16 | Mets v. Tigers -118 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 8 h 53 m | Show
Mets RH Noah Syndergaard again struggled with his command as his winless drought reached four starts when he gave up two earned runs over six innings in a no-decision versus Colorado. He has thrown a combined 232 pitches in the last two outings. The Mets are 1-10 in their last 11 games following a win. Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is in the midst of a torrid stretch of his own with six home runs and 13 RBIs over the past eight games. Tigers righty Justin Verlander (11-6, 3.54 ERA) has permitted a combined 10 runs while going 4-0 over his last six outings. The Tigers are 86-35 in their last 121 interleague home games, plus 17-4 at home against a team with a winning road record. Play Detroit. |

07-30-16 | Red Sox v. Angels +123 | 2-5 | Win | 123 | 11 h 22 m | Show
The Red Sox have failed to take advantage of the Orioles losing four game straight. In fact, the Sox have actually fallen back to 1.5 games behind and have seen Toronto over take them for 2nd in the AL East. The Sox did win on Friday over the Angels, snapping a four game losing streak and a six of seven losing streak. Drew Pomeranz was brought over from the Padres just prior to his July 20th start with Boston. That first start was shaky, going just three innings and allowing five runs. His second was better, going six innings and allowing two runs. However, he did take the loss to Detroit, 4-2. The Angels had a really nice run prior to the All-Star break. However, they have slipped into last in the AL West, 13.5 back of the Rangers. They are also 11 back in the Wild Card standings. Tonight's starter, Hector Santiago, has been their most effective starter. Santiago is 9-4 with a 4.26 ERA. The 28-year old has won five straight decisions, while the Halos have won his last six starts and eight of his last 10. Boston hasn't hit lefties well, especially on the road where they are 16-35 in their last 51 games. The Angels have also won five of the last six in LA and 23 of the last 33 overall. Nice spot here for the underdog Angels with their best pitcher on the mound. Take LA. |

07-27-16 | Tigers +105 v. Red Sox | 4-3 | Win | 105 | 11 h 19 m | Show
The Tigers are just 5.5 games back now of the Cleveland Indians for the AL Central lead. Detroit has won six of their last 10 games and have taken the first two of three from the Red Sox. One of the Tigers best starters will toe the rubber on Wednesday. Michael Fulmer is 9-2 this season with a 2.41 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Fulmer had one of his worst starts last time out, snapping a string a nine quality starts. Even with the four runs he allowed over five innings, the Tigers still won the start. Prior to that last start, Fulmer had allowed just five runs in his last nine starts. The two losses by Boston in this series has them now 2.5 games back of the Orioles in the AL East. The Red Sox have the best offense in baseball, however, their pitching staff is 19th in ERA (4.38) and 15th in WHIP (1.33). Despite scoring eight runs on Tuesday night, the Sox couldn't keep the Tigers off the scoreboard, losing 9-8. It was the fourth loss in five games for Boston. Eduardo Rodriquez starts today with a 2-4 record and 6.70 ERA. Lots of value here with the Tigers as a small dog. I'm taking a very good Fulmer and the Tigers today. |

07-25-16 | Angels +108 v. Royals | 6-2 | Win | 108 | 8 h 55 m | Show
The Angels have dropped into last place in the AL West, despite a recent 6-4 run. The Angels had a nice 11-2 run from the end of the 1st half of the season through their three game sweep of division leading Texas. However, the club was swept in their recent three game swing to Houston. The Angels finish their road trip with three games in Kansas City. The Royals recent 3-7 streak has them now below .500 and eight games back of the Indians for the division lead. KC is also six back in the Wild Card chase with six teams ahead of them. Ian Kennedy starts tonight for the Royals, with a 6-8 record and 4.21 ERA. The Royals have lost four straight starts by Kennedy and seven of the last nine. The Angels will send Hector Santiago to the hill tonight. The 28-year-old lefty is 8-4 with a 4.32 ERA. The Angels have won five straight starts by Santiago and eight of the last 10. Santiago has also allowed just three earned runs over his last 25 innings. I give a big edge here tonight to Santiago, especially how hot he's been lately. Plus we get the Halos as a small dog. Play the Angels. |
|||||||
07-25-16 | A's v. Rangers -129 | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 8 h 46 m | Show
Texas now in a dogfight in the AL West with the Astros just 2.5 back and Seattle 6.5 back. The Rangers snapped a four game losing streak and a 1-6 run with two straight wins over the royals. Sunday's win concluded a post-all star nine-game road swing in which the club finished 3-6. Texas returns home tonight to face the A's. Oakland climbed out of the division cellar with a recent 7-3 run since the break. The A's hit the road today for a nine-game swing. Daniel Mengden starts tonight with a 1-5 record, 5.52 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. Mengden has not pitched well, allowing 20 runs over his last 18.1 innings. Control has also been a big issue, as Mengden has allowed 14 walks during that 18.1 inning stretch. The Rangers counter with Martin Perez who is 7-7 with a 4.37 ERA. Perez has pitched his last four games on the road and has allowed 21 runs in those 22.2 innings. Perez has been brilliant at home though, posting a 6-1 record with a 2.48 ERA and .249 BAA. The A's do not hit lefties well at all, evidenced by their 3-10 mark their last 13 overall and 16-35 mark their last 51 away tries. Perez a much different pitcher at home where he finally gets a start again tonight. Take the Rangers. |
|||||||
07-24-16 | Rangers v. Royals -113 | 2-1 | Loss | -113 | 3 h 14 m | Show
The Rangers have been struggling of late, going just 2-8 in their last 10 games. In addition, they are just 1-4 in their last five away games. This streak has resulted in the Rangers lead evaporating to just 2.5 games over Houston and 5.5 over the Mariners. The Rangers did win last night for just the second time in eight games. A.J Griffin starts today with a 3-1 record and 4.26 ERA. Griffin has been hit hard in recent starts, allowing 11 runs over his last 10 innings with four walks and just five KO's. Griffin has seen his ERA go from 2.94 in May to 4.26 now. The Royals are just .500 at 48-48 and 8 games back of the Indians. Edison Volquez will start today with a 8-8 record and 4.72 ERA. Volquez has pitched well of late, allowing five runs over 13 innings. The Royals have done well behind Volquez, going 5-2 in his last seven starts and 21-6 in his last 27 home starts. I like that Volquez has three quality starts in a row, while Griffin has struggled. I'm taking the Royals here at home against a struggling Rangers club. |
|||||||
07-24-16 | Cubs v. Brewers UNDER 8.5 | 6-5 | Loss | -123 | 3 h 8 m | Show
The Chicago Cubs have seen their lead in the AL Central drop to just 6.5 over the Cardinals. The Cubs finished the first half of the season on a losing streak, but seemed to have turned things around in the 2nd half by winning six of nine. The Cubs pitching has been terrific in the 2nd half, allowing just 12 total runs through their first seven games. They did get hit pretty hard on Saturday though, losing to the Brewers, 6-1. Jon Lester starts today with a 10-4 mark and 2.89 ERA. Lest had two horrible starts to finish the 1st half, allowing 13 runs over just 4.1 innings. However, the break seems to have gotten Lester back on track as he pitched a nice 7.2 innings against the Mets, allowing just one run. The Brewers will have to just play the role of spoiler the rest of the way. Milwaukee is just 3-5 since the break. Today's starter, Junior Guerra has been one of their best starters. Guerra is 6-2 with a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. Guerra has allowed just five earned runs over his last 27 innings. The Cubs have gone UNDER in eight straight games and are 7-1-1 Under-Over-Push in Lester's last nine road starts. This has been a very good UNDER series, going 7-19-2 the last 28 meetings and 14-35-2 O/U the last 51. Two very good pitchers today, I'll stick with the UNDER. |
|||||||
07-24-16 | Mets v. Marlins +119 | 3-0 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 8 m | Show
The Mets and Marlins both chasing the Nationals in the NL East. The Marlins have overtaken the Mets for 2nd place after a nice 7-3 run. Miami has won six of nine since the break including last night's win over the Mets, 7-2. They will look to Jose Urena today, who will be making just his second start of the season. Urena has 16 appearances out of the pen with a 6.23 ERA. His one start came just a few days ago against the Phillies and it was decent. He allowed just one run over 5.2 innings and struck out five. The Mets haven't won two straight games since the break. Steven Matz gets the start today. Matz is 7-6 with a 3.56 ERA. The Mets have lost three straight with Matz on the hill and seven of the last nine. Matz has given up seven runs over his last 12 innings with five walks. With the Marlins 9-3 in their last 12 games, I like the value here today with the home dog. Play Miami. |
|||||||
07-23-16 | Rays v. A's -105 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 56 m | Show
It's been a disappointing season for the Rays, sitting in last place in the AL East, 17.5 games back of the Orioles. Friday's loss pretty much sums up the type of season the club has had. They receive great pitching, but lose in the 13th inning to the A's, 1-0. Drew Smyly can attest to the crazy season, with hsi 2-11 record and 5.64 ERA. Smyly has been roughed-up, allowing 25 runs over his last 27.2 innings. Smyly ranks LAST in all baseball among pitchers in ERA with at least 90 innings pitched. The A's are also in last place in the AL West, 12 back of the Rangers. The A's are 5-3 since the break. Kendall Graveman starts this evening with a 6-6 record and 4.25 ERA. Graveman has pitched very well of late, allowing just five earned runs over his last 21.2 innings. Tampa has struggled against righthanders, going 5-21 in their last 26 games. The A's have pretty much owned the Rays in Oakland, going 49-22 over their last 71 meetings. Huge difference in pitching here and with the Rays having issues scoring, I look for an easy Oakland win. Play Oakland. |
|||||||
07-23-16 | Mariners +136 v. Blue Jays | 14-5 | Win | 136 | 10 h 1 m | Show
Toronto is two games back of the Orioles in the AL East divison. The Jays have a solid pitching staff, ranked in the top 7 in all the major categories. The same goes for their hitting and they have a solid lineup led by 3B Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion. The Blue Jays dropped game one of this series on Friday, 2-1. That makes Toronto 3-3 since the break. R.A Dickey starts today with a 7-10 record and 4.11 ERA. Dickey got rocked for three home runs in his last outing at Oakland, a 5-4 loss. Dickey hasn't been as dominant as he was when he was with the Mets, now he's more inconsistent. Seattle is trying to climb back into the AL West race. Division leading Texas has lost four straight and eight of 10, which has allowed both Houston and Seattle to close the gap. The M's have won two straight and four of six since the break. Hisashi Iwakuma has been solid for the M's, posting a 10-6 record and 4.01 ERA this season. Seattle has won the last four starts by Iwakuma and eight of his last 10. Iwakuma has had two great starts in a row, allowing just seven hits, one run and 14 KO's over his last 13.2 innings. I always like to look for value with dogs and that's just what we get here today. Iwakuma is much better than Dickey and I'll take the +1.30 or thereabouts today with a very good team. Play Seattle. |
|||||||
07-22-16 | Tigers -145 v. White Sox | 7-5 | Win | 100 | 17 h 21 m | Show
Reason: American League GOY : |
|||||||
07-22-16 | Mets v. Marlins -141 | 5-3 | Loss | -141 | 8 h 6 m | Show
The Mets and Marlins are both within six games of division leader Washington. In addition, the Marlins are just one game back of the Dodgers in the Wild Card, while the Mets are 1.5 back. The Mets have that excellent pitching staff, 3rd in baseball in ERA (3.33) and fourth in quality starts. However, it's the offense that has issues, ranking 28th in runs, 29th in BA and 25th in OBP. The Mets are 3-3 since the break as they open this three-game series with the Marlins. Logan Verrett gets the start today. Verrett has been in 25 games this season and started seven. He has a 4.21 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. His road stats are not very good, posting a 5.28 ERA and .317 BAA. Meanwhile, the Marlins have won eight of 10 and five of seven games since the break. Adam Conley starts today with a 3.61 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Conley has pitched very well of late, having three quality starts in a row and allowing just four earned runs over 17 innings. The Mets offensive woes are a concern, as is Verrett's road stats. I'm taking the Marlins here as all the edges line up on their side. Play Miami. |
|||||||
07-21-16 | Rays +123 v. A's | Top | 7-3 | Win | 123 | 20 h 36 m | Show |
A battle of last place clubs here as the Rays and A's battle in the Bay. Tampa Bay has won two straight games and three of four, but still are way out of the AL East race at 17 back of the Red Sox. The Rays liked the high altitude of Colorado, as they scored 25 runs over three games in Denver. Matt Moore starts today with a 5-7 record and 4.33 ERA. Moore has been very good of late, allowing just six earned runs over his last four starts (27 innings). Moore's recent strong outings makes him a good candidate to be on the trading block come deadline time. The Oakland A's are in last in the AL West, 13 back of the Rangers. The A's have won four of six since the break, but were shutout last night by the Astros, 7-0. Sonny Gray has had a rough year. The 26-year old righthander would likely be the ace of this staff. However, with some injury problems, Gray is just 4-8 on the season with a 5.12 ERA. Despite some recent quality starts, Gray has just one win in his last ten starts. In addition, the A's are just 2-11 in Gray's last 13 starts on grass. If this was the Sonny Gray of last season, laying this price would be good value. But this year's edition of Gray is not nearly the same pitcher. And, with the Rays playing well and Moore pitching his best ball of the season, the dog is just too much to pass on here. Play Tampa Bay. |
|||||||
07-21-16 | Brewers v. Pirates OVER 9 | 3-5 | Loss | -105 | 10 h 5 m | Show
The Brewers have climbed out of the cellar they were in for most of the 1st half of the season. While this club won't make the postseason, they have made some excellent strides recently. The Brewers lost game one of this series, but took game two last night, 9-5. Matt Garza will try and make that two in a row tonight. Garza is 1-3 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.72 WHIP. Garza missed the first two months of the season. The 32-year old has six starts now, but after a pair of quality starts in June, he's had four straight starts that have not been good. Garza has allowed 19 runs over his last four starts (21 innings). Walks have also been an issue, allowing 10 free passes during that stretch. The Pirates likely will never catch the Cubs in the NL Central. However, they are in the thick of things in the Wild Card race, sitting fourth just three games back of the Dodgers. Francisco Liriano starts tonight. The 32-year old lefty has a 5-9 mark with a 5.11 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. Walks have also been a big issue for Liriano, as he's allowed 21 free passes in his last six starts (31 innings). I'm looking at the OVER here today. The Brewers have gone over in Garza's last seven starts. The Pirates have gone over in five of the last six home starts by Liriano. In addition, these clubs have gone OVER in 10 of the last 12 meetings and seven of the last nine in Pittsburgh. Take the OVER here tonight. |
|||||||
07-20-16 | Rangers v. Angels -127 | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 9 h 44 m | Show
The LA Angels are 12.5 games back of Texas. However, the Angels are playing their best ball of the season. They are led by a rejuvenated Albert Pujols. Pujols has 11 RBI's in the last three games (the best of his career). The Angels are also 5-0 since the break, scoring 33 runs over that span. Hector Santiago starts today for the Halos, with a 7-4 record and 4.27 ERA. Santiago has been great of late, allowing NO runs over his last 20 innings with 20 KO's. The Rangers showing signs of a rut here, posting a 2-8 record the last 10 games. They are also 1-4 since the break and have allowed 17 runs over their last two games to the Angels. Martin Perez will try and get the team back on track. Perez is 7-5 with a 4.05 ERA. Perez has not pitched well lately, allowing 12 earned runs over his last 9.2 innings with four home runs. The Angels can sweep their series here with Texas tonight and take a big bite out of that lead the Rangers have over them. Take the Angels here on Wednesday. |
|||||||
07-20-16 | Giants v. Red Sox OVER 10 | 7-11 | Win | 100 | 6 h 49 m | Show
The San Francisco Giants have lost four straight games since the All-Star game, but still hold a 4.5 lead over the 2nd place Dodgers. It's only a 2-club race in the Division with the next closest team 13.5 back. The Giants usually excellent pitching staff has allowed 20 runs over the last four games. Don't expect things to get better tonight against baseball's best hitting team. Matt Cain likely won't be around long for this one. He's 1-5 with a 5.34 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. The Boston Red Sox are hot on the heals of division leader Baltimore. The Sox have won eight of their last 10 and now trail the O's by just a half game. The Red Sox will unveil their newest acquisition in Drew Pomeranz tonight. Pomeranz was added to the club on July 17th. The 27-year old is a nice addition to the staff, boasting a 2.47 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. I expect the Sox to get plenty of runs tonight off of Cain. We'll have to see how Pomeranz pitches in a new park and going from a team out of the playoffs to in the thick of one. I'm taking the OVER here tonight. |
|||||||
07-20-16 | Blue Jays v. Diamondbacks OVER 9 | 10-4 | Win | 100 | 2 h 18 m | Show
Toronto has been hot, posting a 8-2 record the last 10 games and now trailing Boston in the AL East by just 1.5 games. The Jays have won two straight and have scored 21 runs in their four games since the All-Star game. Marcus Stroman starts today with his 7-4 record and 5.15 ERA. Stroman got roughed-up bye the A's last time out, allowing six seven runs over just 4.2 innings. The Diamondbacks are in last place in the AL West, 17 back of the Giants. They have lost seven of their last 10 games. Patrick Corbin starts today with a 4-8 record, 5.25 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. Corbin has not been good, giving up 23 runs in his last four starts (18.1 innings). If not for a lack of arms, Corbin likely would be in the pen if not the minors. Two shaky pitchers here makes me love this OVER. Play OVER. |
|||||||
07-19-16 | Rays v. Rockies -138 | 10-1 | Loss | -138 | 11 h 23 m | Show
Both of these clubs having seasons they would like to forget. The Rays are in last place in the AL East, 18.5 games back of the Orioles. Meanwhile, the Rockies are in third place in the NL West, 13.5 games back of the Giants. The Rays hope the rarefied air of Colorado will help their stagnant offense. Tampa's offense is 26th in runs, 28th in batting average and 26th in on base percentage. Pitching has been much better, with the staff being 24th in ERA (4.54). The Rays opened the 2nd half of the season losing three of their first four games. Blake Snell will start today with a 1-4 record and 3.69 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Snell's issues are his high walks (10 in the last 16.2 innings) and his lack of run support. The Rockies, who have won three of four after the break, turn to Tyler Chatwood tonight. Chatwood is their best pitcher, with a 8-5 record, 3.29 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. The Rays haven't done well in IL play at Colorado, going just 4-9 in their last 13 trips to the Mile High City. Everything lines up on the side of the home team here, pitching, bullpen, hitting and momentum. Play the Rockies. |

07-19-16 | Astros -163 v. A's | 3-4 | Loss | -163 | 11 h 37 m | Show
The Houston Astros a very rough start to the season, but have now climbed their way back into the playoff picture. The Astros are now in 2nd place in the AL West, just 4.5 games back of the Rangers. The Astros finished the 1st half of the season red-hot, posting a 16-4 record their last 20 games. Houston took two of three at Seattle to start the 2nd half. Despite losing to Oakland on Monday, the Astros Dallas Keuchel looks to get the team back on the winning track. Keuchel had a rough early season, just like his club did. However, Keuchel has been red-hot, with the club winning his last five starts. Keuchel has not allowed more than three earned runs during this stretch. The Oakland A's have won three of four games. However, they have to look to little used Dillon Overton tonight. Overton has just two starts and is 1-1 with a 11.42 ERA and sky high 2.31 WHIP. The 24-year old lefty has allowed five walks in 8.2 innings compared to just four KO's. Houston is 9-3 in their last 12 road games and 7-1 in Keuchel's last eight starts vs Oakland. This one I love as I expect an easy win here by the Astros. |

07-18-16 | Twins v. Tigers -139 | Top | 0-1 | Win | 100 | 8 h 7 m | Show |
The Tigers are one of three teams bunched together in the AL Central that are trying to catch the Cleveland Indians for first place. The Tigers trail the Indians by 6.5 game and are currently in 2nd place. It's still a bit early to think Wild Card, but the Tigers are three games back of the Red Sox right now for a While card spot. The Tigers got a walk-off two run home run from Jarrod Saltalamacchia on Sunday to lift Detroit to a win over the Royals, 4-2. The Tigers took two of three from the Royals to open the 2nd half of the season. Tonight, Matt Boyd will start the series against Minnesota. Boyd has been a spot starter for Detroit, starting six games this season with a 5.77 ERA and a 0-2 mark. He is coming off a good effort, allowing just one run over five innings at Toronto on July 9th. The Twins are already looking to next season, as they sit 21 games back and in last place. The Twins are already shopping right handed pitcher Ervin Santana around before the trade deadline. Ricky Nolasco starts today with a 4-7 record and 5.22 ERA. Nolasco has put in lots of innings this year for the Twins, but not many chances to win. With Boyd pitching tonight we get a pretty decent price at home with the Tigers. Boyd's last start showed lots of promise and I like this spot and price to take a much better team at home. Play Detroit |
|||||||
07-17-16 | Red Sox -119 v. Yankees | 1-3 | Loss | -119 | 11 h 42 m | Show
Red Sox ace David Price (9-6, 4.34 ERA) is hoping to pick up right where he left off before the break, when he struck out 10 and scattered four hits over eight shutout innings against Tampa Bay. The former No. 1 overall pick reached double-digit strikeouts in each of his last three starts and has 140 Ks in 124 1/3 total innings. The Red Sox are 7-1 in their last 8 games vs. a right-handed starter. Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka ended his first half on a sour note, getting ripped for seven runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings at Cleveland on July 10. The Japan native is having some trouble finding consistency with three runs allowed or fewer in three of his last six starts and a total of 18 allowed in the other three. Boston has the better offense by a wide margin and gets the sweep. The Yankees are on a 2-5 run at home, plus 1-7 against the American League East. And the Red Sox are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings. Play the Red Sox. |
|||||||
07-17-16 | Royals v. Tigers -135 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 4 h 47 m | Show
The Royals are stuck with Yordano Ventura (6-7, 5.15 ERA) and on a 3-7 run. The Royals are 10-27 in their last 37 road games vs. a right-handed starter. Detroit is home and 14-6 at home against a team with a winning record. Tigers righty Michael Fulmer (9-2, 2.11 ERA) concluded a brilliant first half of the season with his seventh victory in his last nine turns at Cleveland on July 6, holding the Indians to two runs (one earned) on five hits in six frames. Fulmer has kept the opposition off the scoreboard five times during the streak as well, going 7-1 with a 0.63 ERA. Detroit is on a 12-5 run at home while the Royals are 2-14 in their last 16 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Play Detroit. |
|||||||
07-17-16 | Orioles -109 v. Rays | 2-5 | Loss | -109 | 4 h 46 m | Show
 Orioles RH Dylan Bundy (2-1, 3.08 ERA) has good stuff and is backed by a talented Baltimore offense. The struggling Rays go with Jake Odorizzi (3-5, 4.47 ERA) is winless in his last six starts, including Sunday at Boston as he yielded four runs over five innings. Play Baltimore. |
|||||||
07-16-16 | Giants -1.5 v. Padres | 6-7 | Loss | -102 | 17 h 28 m | Show
The Giants ended the 1st half of the season red-hot, winning four straight and eight of 10. The Giants are the best team in baseball right now with a 57-34 record. Their pitching staff is one of the best, ranked 5th in baseball in ERA (3.55), 3rd in quality starts (54), 4th in WHIP (1.21) and 6th in BAA (.245). The Giants lost on Saturday with their ace, Madison Bumgarner on the hill. The Giants lost as a 2.20 favorite, scoring just one run in a 4-1 loss. Today the Giants will send Jeff Samardzija to the hill. Samardzija was in need of a good start after three starts where he was roughed-up for 16 runs over 16.1 innings. And, he got it, with a nice start last time out over the D'backs. Samardzija allowed just two runs for the win. With the trade deadline looming, the Padres could be looking to deal some players, especially Drew Pomerance who is arguably their best pitcher. Luis Perdomo gets the go today for the friars. Perdomo has got hit hard this year, posting a 7.48 ERA and 1.98 WHIP. Perdomo is 2-2 at home with a 9.70 ERA and BAA of .392 this season. With the Padres winning on Friday, I doubt they can put together two straight against the MLB's top team - especially with Perdomo on the hill. The line is too big to play straight, so lay the -1.5 runs with the Giants. |
|||||||
07-16-16 | Indians -129 v. Twins | 4-5 | Loss | -129 | 16 h 23 m | Show
The Cleveland Indians started the second half of the season with a win on Friday over Minnesota, 5-2. The Tribe now leads the AL Central by 6.5 games over the Tigers. The pitching staff has proved why they have the best rotation in baseball, evidenced by their ranking 6th in ERA (3.63), 5th in WHIP (1.21) and 4th in BAA (.237). The Indians have also been a very good road team, posting a 27-20 mark (Only the Giants have more road wins). Minnesota is really the only team out of the running in the division, as they trail the Indians by 21 games. Tyler Duffey starts for the Twins, with a 5-6 record and 5.20 ERA. He'll be up against another outstanding starter for the Indians in Trevor Bauer. Bauer is 7-3 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. The Indians and Bauer should have little issues shutting down the Minnesota hitters here on Saturday. Take Cleveland. |
|||||||
07-15-16 | Giants -1.5 v. Padres | 1-4 | Loss | -114 | 13 h 37 m | Show
The Giants begin their quest for another World Series title today as they begin the 2nd half of the season. The Giants finished the first half red-hot, winning four straight and eight of 10. The Giants are the best team in baseball right now with a 57-33 record. Their pitching staff is one of the best, ranked 5th in baseball in ERA (3.55), 3rd in quality starts (54), 4th in WHIP (1.21) and 6th in BAA (.245). The Giants send their ace (or one of them) to the hill toda in Madison Bumgarner. Â Bumgarner is 10-4 with a nifty 1.94 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. The southpaw has not allowed a run over his last 15 innings with just five hits, three walks and 20 KO's. Bumgarner is coming off his most dominant performance of the season, a complete game shutout win of the Dimaondbacks, where he allowed just one hit and struck out 14 batters. The Padres finished the 1st half losing three straight games and now are 18.5 back of the Giants. With the trade deadline looming, the Padres could be looking to deal some players, especially Drew Pomerance who is arguably their best pitcher. Andrew Cashner will start today. Cashner has struggled this season to a 3-7 record and 5.40 ERA. Cashner got rocked in his last start, allowing eight runs (4 home runs) in just 2.2 innings to the Dodgers. In addition, Cashner is 0-2 this season against the Giants with a 6.23 ERA. As much as I love the Giants here today, I can't lay the big price. However, I can play them -1.5 runs and get a full nine innings of hitting. Take San Francisco on the RUN LINE today. Â |
|||||||
07-15-16 | Rockies v. Braves +113 | 11-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 32 m | Show
The Braves maybe the worst team in baseball, but they finished the first half of the season winning three of four games including a pair of wins at the White Sox. The start the 2nd half with three games at home against Colorado. They will send Lucas Harrell to the hill today. Harrell was acquired from Arizona and has just two starts this year, but both have been quality ones. Harrell has two starts with the Braves, allowing just two total runs over 13.2 innings. That includes just seven hits, 10 KO's and 3 walks. The Rockies may be in third place in the NL West, but they have a mountain the size of the Rockies to overcome as they are 16 games back of the Giants. Colorado finished the first half of the season losing seven of the last 10 games. They will send Jorge De La Rosa to the hill. The 35-year-old veteran is just 5-6 this season with a 5.74 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. You might think these numbers are inflated by the elevated air at Coors Field. Nope, De La Rosa has a 4-2 record and 4.41 ERA at home, while he has a horrible 1-4 record with a 7.20 ERA and .317 BAA away.  The Braves are a small dog here and I think they could easily be or should have been the favorite. Nice little dog play here, take the Braves. |

07-12-16 | American League +103 v. National League | 4-2 | Win | 103 | 19 h 53 m | Show
The MLB All-Star game has been one of streaks.  The American League has won three straight now and before that the Nationals won three straight. Since 2003, the American League is now 10-3 vs the senior league. This will be the second straight season in a NL park. Last year the game was played at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati and this year it will be held at Petco Park in San Diego. Chris Sale will start for the AL and Johny Cueto for the NL. The NL will be without Clayton Kershaw and Noah Syndergaard, both out with injuries. Nationals' pitcher Stephen Strasburg opted to rest and not pitch in the All Star game. The AL will throw starters early in the game including Corey Kluber, Cole Hamels, Aaron Sanchez and Carlos Quintana. Expect the relievers to get involved early for the AL. With the NL missing some key starting pitchers for this one, I'm going to have to make a small play on the underdog American League. This game is just for fun, so don't go crazy with it. Enjoy the game. |

07-10-16 | Cardinals v. Brewers -115 | 5-1 | Loss | -115 | 11 h 22 m | Show
The good news for the St Louis Cardinals is that they won on Saturday over the Brewers, 8-1. The Bad news is that the Cardinals will look forward to the break because of a rash of injuries. Matt Carpenter, Matt Holliday and Brondon Moss have been out due to injury. Even starter Adam Wainwright has offered to pitch in the bullpen because of injuries. Mike Leake will start today with his 5-7 mark and 4.33 ERA. The Cardinals have lost four straight starts by Leake. Leake also hasn't held an opponent to fewer than three runs since May 31st. The Brewers can win their second straight series with a win today. Junior Guerra has been very good for the Brewers, with a 6-1 record and 2.93 ERA. Guerra has allowed NO runs over his last 15.1 innings and just three runs over his last 34.1 innings. With the Cardinals team more like a MASH unit, I'm going to take the Brewers here with a red-hot Guerra on the mount. Play Milwaukee. |
|||||||
07-10-16 | Cubs v. Pirates +151 | 6-5 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 47 m | Show
If it's not broke, don't fix it. I had the Pirates as a very nice dog on Saturday and they did just what I expected to a reeling Cubs team. For the Cubs, the All-Star break can't come fast enough. After Saturday's loss, the Cubs are now 1-9 in their last 10 games. The Pirates can cut the Cubs lead to just 5.5 games with another win here today on Sunday. Once again, on paper the Cubs have the edge on the hill with Jon Lackey. However, the way they are playing and pitching, I'm sticking with the Pirates again here on Sunday. Just like yesterday, there is very good value with the home dog here. Play the Pirates. |
|||||||
07-09-16 | Cubs v. Pirates +148 | 6-12 | Win | 148 | 7 h 27 m | Show
You can't fault the Chicago fans if they are starting to squirm a bit in their collective chairs. The Cubs looked like a lock to make the postseason just a few weeks ago. Then, on June 30th they began a stretch of 1-8. Jake Arrieta has been getting hit hard, the team lost two of three to the Reds of all teams. Still, they have a 7.5 game lead over the Pirates, despite the losing streak. The Pirates took game one last night, 8-4. They look to cut deeper into that lead prior to the All Star game. Chad Kuhn makes his third start for the Pirates today. Kuhn is 1-0 with a 4.09 ERA in his two starts. The Cubs send Jon Lester to the hill. Lester is 9-4 with a 2.67 ERA. Lester got sent to the showers early in his last start, allowing eight runs and nine hits over just 1.1 innings to the Mets. Obviously the pitching edge goes to the Cubs here. But that hasn't worked so well lately. The Cubs are doubting themselves and that means an opportunity for the Pirates. I see good value here with the Bucs. Play Pittsburgh. |
|||||||
07-09-16 | Angels v. Orioles OVER 10.5 | 2-3 | Loss | -109 | 4 h 17 m | Show
The NL East leading Baltimore Orioles have just a one game lead over the Blue Jays. Thanks partly to their 4-6 record the last 10 games. The O's are still one of the best hitting teams in baseball, ranking 2nd in slugging, 5th in batting average and 6th in runs. The pitching staff has given up some big runs of late, including last night in their loss to the Angels. 9-5. This had made the O's a good OVER play lately, evidenced by their 10-2 O/U mark the last 12 games. In addition, Baltimore is 20-6-1 in their last 27 games against a right handed pitcher. The Angels have won four straight games, scoring 34 runs during the stretch. This game looks like the perfect spot to play the OVER. |
|||||||
07-09-16 | Diamondbacks v. Giants -124 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 4 h 17 m | Show
The Giants will head to the break with a nice little lead in the NL West. The Giants are 6.5 ahead of the Dodgers and the next closest team is Colorado at 15 back. The Diamondbacks bring up the rear at 17 games back. The Giants took game one last night, 6-2. They start veteran righthander Jake Peavy. Peavy has been very inconsistent the year, posting a 5-7 record with a 5.14 ERA. However, he's been much better at home where he is 4-2 with a 3.96 ERA. A lot was expected from Arizona this season, especially after signing Zack Greinke in the off season. The D'backs will send Robbie Ray to the hill, with his 4-7 record and 4.78 ERA. Arizona has lost three straight starts by Ray and seven of the last nine. Peavy is a question mark here, but at least he's home where he's more comfortable. I'm taking the Giants here against the last place Diamondbacks. |
|||||||
07-08-16 | Mariners v. Royals -107 | 3-2 | Loss | -107 | 18 h 41 m | Show
Both these clubs sit in third place in their respective divisions. The Royals are 44-41 and seven back of the Indians. Meanwhile, the Mariners are 43-43 and 9.5 back of Texas. The M's lost the opener of this series on Thursday, blowing a 9th inning 3-0 lead and losing 4-3. It was the club's fourth straight loss after getting swept at Houston. Hisashi Iwakuma makes the start tonight, with a 8-6 record and 4.43 ERA. Iwakuma has pitched fairly well of late, allowing six runs over his last 12.2 innings and winning both starts. The Royals look to build on that momentum tonight behind Yordano Ventura. Ventura is 6-6 with a 5.26 ERA. Ventura has been battling a ankle injury, which occurred in his last start. The Royals have done well with Ventura on the hill at Kauffman stadium, posting a 24-8 record in his last 32 starts. It can be tough to rebound after losing a big lead in the 9th inning. If Ventura's ankle is solid, then I like the Royals here tonight. |
|||||||
07-08-16 | Rays v. Red Sox -106 | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 17 h 35 m | Show
Tampa Bay still stuck in last place in the AL East. The Rays recent 2-15 streak hasn't helped either. The Rays hitting has been terrible, ranking 25th or worse in three of the big four batting categories. The pitching hasn't been much better, with a 4.58 ERA (24th) and a 1.36 WHIP (17th). Chris Archer will start for the Rays, with his 4-11 mark and 4.50 ERA. Archer is coming off his best start, allowing no runs over 5.2 innings vs Detroit. However, the Rays couldn't capitalize, losing 5-1. Boston is in third place, just three back of the Orioles. The Sox are the best hitting team in baseball, leading the MLB in Runs, BAA, On Base% and Slugging. Sean O'Sullivan makes just his fifth start of the season. While the 28-year-old is 2-0, he has a high 6.61 ERA. O'Sullivan had a nearly two month layoff before making his start on July 3rd. And it was an encouraging one, allowing just two runs over five innings. The Red Sox starter might be a question here, but the Rays just can't hit and can't win. The All Star break can't come soon enough for Tampa. Take Boston. |

7/05 10:10 PM MLB (979) BALTIMORE ORIOLES VS (980) LOS ANGELES DODGERS Take: (980) MLB High Roller Platinum Club: LA Dodgers. Baltimore has a bad road record and is 3,000 miles from home. Orioles righty Chris Tillman (10-2, 3.71 ERA) suffered the loss at Seattle on Thursday, when he allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. The Orioles are 6-17 in their last 23 road games vs. a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600. The Dodgers are 37-14 at home vs. a team with a losing road record. Dodgers righty Kenta Maeda (7-5, 2.82) has allowed fewer than two earned runs in five of his last seven starts, including a victory at Milwaukee on Thursday in which he gave up one run and three hits over six innings. And the Dodgers are 94-46 in their last 140 home games. Play the L.A. Dodgers. |

06-28-16 | Astros -118 v. Angels | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 9 h 5 m | Show
The Astros have finally been playing like the playoff team they were last season. Houston has won eight of their last 10 games and 10 of 12. They took the opener from the Angels last night, 4-2. Still, they trail the best team in baseball right now, Texas, by 10 games. Scott Feldman gets the start tonight for the Astros. The 33-year old has been in 20 games this year, but started only four. Feldman is 4-3 with a 3.07 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Meanwhile, the Angels have fallen to last place in the AL West, 18 games back of the Rangers. They have now lost seven of their last eight games. Tim Lincecum continues his comeback season. The 32-year old former Cy Young winner makes his third start tonight. His first was very good, allowing just one run over six innings. His second was not so good, allowing four runs over three innings.The way the Angels are playing, I don't give them much chance tonight with a rusty Lincecum on the hill. I'm taking the Astros tonight. |
|||||||
06-28-16 | Dodgers -135 v. Brewers | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 9 m | Show
Dodgers need a nice run to close their seven-game gap with the Giants. They turn to their 19-year old rookie phenom tonight, Julio Urias. Urias is yet to pick up his first MLB win in his six starts. His first two starts were rocky, allowing eight runs over 7.2 innings. However, since then he's been very good, allowing just five earned runs over 24.1 innings. He also has just four total walks during that time vs his 28 KO's. The Brewers have climbed out of last place, but still trail Chicago by 15. The Brewers took two of three games from the Nationals last weekend. Chase Anderson will start tonight. Anderson is 4-7 with a 5.13 ERA. Anderson has been hit hard of late, allowing 11 runs over his last 7.1 innings, including three home runs and five walks. Dodgers bats haven't been very good this year, but this is the kind of pitcher they should feast on. Take LA tonight. |
|||||||
06-28-16 | Rangers -104 v. Yankees | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 6 h 55 m | Show
The Texas Rangers are running away with the AL West, now leading second place Houston by 10 games. The Rangers now have the most wins in baseball (50) and have won three straight and 14 of their last 17. Monday's contest was crazy, as the Yankees led 6-5 in the top of the 9th when the rains came. Instead of calling the game at that point, the umpire delayed the game for 3 hours 35 minutes. When they resumed at 2:15 am, the Rangers scored four times in the top of the 9th to beat the Yankees. The Yankees were 160-0 when leading after eight innings. Now they are 160-1. The Rangers ace, Cole Hamels, goes tonight. Hamels is 8-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. The Yankees will counter with veteran CC Sabathia. Sabathia is 5-4 with a 2.71 ERA. Sabathia had been pitching well until his last start, where he was roughed-up for five runs over 4.1 innings. Sabathia has been battling a twisted right ankle. I'm taking the Rangers here tonight. The Yankees have to be deflated after last night and the Rangers are just too hot. Take Texas. |
