In their matchup last season, Tulsa got the best of SMU 40-31.
The Mustangs have yet to find any kind of rhythm this season with only one win against an FBS team, which was North Texas. The Mustangs latest loss came last week at Temple where they were beaten up 45-20.
Tulsa needed two overtime periods to get the job done against Fresno State on September 24.
They were able to come out of the game on top 48-41. This will be the Golden Hurricane’s first game in the American Athletic Conference this season while the Mustangs are 0-1 in conference play.
Tulsa Golden Hurricane
Tulsa quarterback Dane Evans was able to throw four touchdown passes plus scramble 18 yards to the endzone in the second overtime period in order to lead the Golden Hurricane to a win two weeks ago against Fresno State.
After finding themselves down 31-0 at half, Tulsa stormed on to pull off the amazing come from behind victory. Evans finished the game completing 22 of 32 passes for a total of 273 yards.
It took everyone of the Golden Hurricane’s 617 yards on offense to make up for the two turnovers and 71 yards they lost due to 8 penalties.
Tulsa has been good for an average of 452.5 yards a game while putting up an average of 38.5 points against opponents. Evans has thrown six interceptions compared to eight touchdowns with a total of 880 yards through the air.
On the defensive side of the ball, Tulsa has been giving up an average of 381.2 yards each game.
The Mustangs were unable to come up with a plan to stop the running game of Temple last week. The defense allowed the Owls to run for a total of 244 yards on 45 carries.
They weren’t able to create anything of their own on the ground, only picking up 89 yards on 32 rushing attempts. SMU was able to get a solid start, but couldn’t keep up and Temple had the game put away before the bands took the field at halftime.
Offense has been a mess for SMU this season, mainly as a result of quarterback Matt Davis being out for the season.
The Mustangs have had to depend on freshman Ben Hicks who has already thrown the ball for over 1,000 yards, but has thrown 9 interceptions compared to just four touchdowns.
SMU has been able to accumulate an average of 416 yards each game, but there defense is allowing teams to average over 233 yards through the air and 167 on the ground.

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Prediction
SMU is normally able to come up with a solid effort and I don’t think this week will be any different for the Mustangs.
They have been able to cover in eight of the last eleven games in the series.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: SMU +16
The Mustangs were able to cover the spread in a major game once already against Baylor and while last week may not looked good against Temple, they will not be playing near as good of a defense this week.
Tulsa will win, but the Mustangs will find a way to cover the spread.
