Can it really be that Northwestern is 5-0? That the Wolverines are 4-1? That both teams are ranked?
We will get some answers to these questions in what is expected to be a defensive struggle – just look at that total.
Given the lack of expected offense this might not be the best looking game but competitive is all that you want, right?
When Northwestern beat Stanford and held them to only six points it was assumed that that was one of those wacky things that can happen in the first week of the season.
But since then they have continued to win all of their games while pitching a couple of shutouts, including last week against Minnesota (who was pretty good against TCU in that first week). Its time to start reevaluating our assumptions.
That Northwestern defense has been awesome and this week even though they are on the road they are not facing an offensive juggernaut. I didn’t see this coming but they might be for real, or at least real enough.
Offensively they are focusing on pounding away on the ground. It has worked but it will be interesting to see if this team can generate enough offense if they have to play catchup.
QB Clayton Thorson is still unknown in that regard.
The line here says that NW is being disrespected which only helps coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Michigan has ripped off four victories since losing to Utah in the opening week of the season, a loss which might be the best in the country depending on how you look at it.
The Big Blue defense has similar numbers to NW with a couple of shutouts – they are second in points allowed to the Wildcats at just over 7ppg. That group is definitely leading the way for Michigan and setting up the offense.
I am confident that Jim Harbaugh will have success at Michigan but this is all a little sudden. They are the favourites in this one but I am still a little unsure what kind of performance we can expect from this group every week.
Michigan won last year’s game 10-9 and I expect another close contest.

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Prediction
I love defense but I think the oddsmakers might be going a little too low with this one based on early numbers and last year’s outcome
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Over 35
I know that would be bucking a trend for these teams but that total is just too inviting.
