Two of the better teams in the ACC square off Saturday afternoon as the Louisville Cardinals take on the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Both teams will be playing in the postseason this year, but there is still a very slim chance the Panthers could find themselves in the ACC Championship.
As for Louisville, they started off the season very sluggish, so the ability to rebound and grab a bowl bid is an accomplishment here.
The Cardinals dropped their first 3 contests of the season and it looked as if they were in store for a long season. Losses to Auburn, Houston, and Clemson at them at 0-3.
Their 4th loss came to Florida State, but they’ve done exactly what they’ve needed to do to get to 6 wins by beating teams they’re supposed to beat. The Cardinals have knocked off Samford, NC State, Boston College, Wake Forest, Syracuse, and Virginia en route to 6 wins and will look for wins over Pitt and Kentucky to cap off an 8 win season.
Brandon Radcliff continues to be the leader of the pack for the Cardinals. Radcliff rushed for 117 yards against Syracuse and then rumbled his way for 146 yards on just 21 carries in the Cards win over Virginia. Radcliff added 2 touchdowns to his total on the season.
The Cardinals defense is also stepping up big. Louisville has allowed only 56.3 yards on the ground over their 6 wins and overall have conceded 22.3 points.
The Panthers loss to UNC back on October 29th is proving to be the biggest of the season. In their 26-19 loss they lost out on the tiebreaker to the Tar Heels who are still undefeated in conference play.
For Pittsburgh to win the ACC Coastal Division, the Panthers would need wins over both Louisville and Miami and get some help from Virginia Tech and NC State against UNC.
While the task is tough to have all the cards fall into place, the Panthers still can finish this season with 9 wins and likely crack the Top 25 prior to their bowl game.
Pittsburgh comes in with a lot of momentum as they put up an impressive performance against Duke last week. The Panthers racked up 268 rush yards led by freshman Qadree Ollison and got 3 passing touchdown from Nate Peterman in the win.
Tyler Boyd continued his phenomenal season as he was used both out wide and in the back field. Receiving wise, Boyd has been Peterman’s go to target as he has 69 receptions for 700 yards with 5 touchdowns.

There isn’t much to separate these two. The series is tied 8-8 and the teams are 5-5 in Pittsburgh. The Panthers do have more playmakers, especially with Boyd. The Panthers should be able to use the run game that worked so well last week once again here.
