If this game was won on entrances, Virginia Tech would have it in the bag.
Then again, it is pretty easy to see that the Hokies have an easy route to a victory in Justin Fuente’s debut as they take on the Liberty Flames.
Though the atmosphere may be slightly different without Frank Beamer leading V-Tech onto the field, the stadium will still be rocking and Liberty should be completely overwhelmed by a formidable defense and offense that should be able to be relatively productive in the ACC.
The Hokies will walk away with this one easy. 45-10.
Let’s not get things confused, Liberty is not a bad football program.
They play at a lower level than Virginia Tech but can still hold their own. In fact, they tend to play their FCS opponents close to the belt but do falter — albeit expectedly — against FBS opponents.
Their defense being suspect, expect V-Tech to put a good amount of points up on the board.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Frank Beamer may be gone but the atmosphere surrounding the Virginia Tech football program will always remain the same.
A tenacious introduction will fuel a ravenous crowd as the Hokies look to make waves in an ACC that many see as being locked up by Clemson already.
Though Virginia Tech will have to make some improvements on both offense and defense to truly contend, don’t count the Hokies out as a dark horse for the ACC title.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Virginia Tech’s final two losses of the 2015 season came in overtime to ranked opponents (No. 23 Duke, No. 17 North Carolina)
- In their only game against an FBS opponent last year Liberty lost 41-17 to West Virginia
- Jerod Evans, a junior college transfer, was named quarterback ahead of Virginia Tech’s opener against Liberty.
