This should be a good matchup between two Pac 12 teams looking to climb the standings in the South Division. The Wildcats come into this game following a tough loss to the Washington Huskies.
UCLA tried to outmuscle Stanford but ended up beat down, losing 22-13.
Dynamic QB Brandon Dawkins had a very good game. He was 19 of 31 for 167 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also was a threat on the ground running the ball 13 times for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns.
He should be able to make more plays in this option offense and lead a high powered running attack.
J.J Taylor rushed 19 times for 97 yards and a score. He and Dawkins should expose the Bruins front 7. Expect another score and 100 yards this week.
Shun Brown was the only bright spot in the Wildcats passing game last week, as he had 7 catches for 114 yards. Look for the Wildcats to focus on him as the #1 receiver as they try to go score for score with a good Bruins offense.
The Wildcats defense had its moments against Washington, as they were able to pick up 4 sacks and only allowed 160 yards passing.
The problem was the running defense as Lavon Coleman gashed them for 11 carries and 181 yards with a score.
Myles Gaskin had 85 yards on the ground and if UCLA can get their ground game coming it should be a long day for the Washington defense.
Josh Rosen has had an up and down start to the season. In UCLA’s victories he has played great, and in their losses he has been average at best.
Going up against one of the best defenses in the country Rosen was expected to have a rough game. I think the Wildcats defense will not be able to slow down the UCLA passing attack this week.
The Bruins should have an easier time running the ball this week.
Bolu Olorunfunmi was only able to get 51 yards on the ground against Stanford. Main starting tailback Soso Jamabo was shut down last week but I expect him to reach the 100 yard mark and get a score.
Nate Iese was the big playmaker for the Bruins receiving corps last week, hauling in 5 passes for 89 yards and a score.
If he is able to break through the secondary and connect with Rosen on some long passes it should be another big game for him.
The Bruins contained Christian McCaffery in the passing game, but he was able to get 138 yards on the ground last week.
Going up against the Wildcats option attack look for the run defense to be tested again.
