10-16-23 | Panthers +166 v. Devils | Top | 4-3 | Win | 166 | 15 h 38 m | Show |
The Florida Panthers, who last season reached the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1996, are set to visit the New Jersey Devils on Monday night in Newark. New Jersey is coming off a surprising season in which the Devils set franchise records for wins (52) and points (112). Florida is off to a slow start, losing its first two games. The trek to New Jersey will culminate a three-game road trip, and the Panthers will finally get their home opener on Thursday against Toronto. The Panthers' most recent game was a 6-4 loss at Winnipeg on Saturday. One reason why is that they are missing their two top defensemen -- Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour. Both are on injured reserve. Ekblad had 14 goals last season, which marked the eighth time in nine years that he has reached double figures in that statistic. Montour last season set career highs with 16 goals and 57 assists, and his 73 points topped Florida defensemen. Without those two, the Panthers still have a standout defenseman in speedy Gustav Forsling, who last season set career highs in goals (13) and assists (28), playing all 82 games. |

10-15-23 | Lightning v. Senators -111 | Top | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 20 h 36 m | Show |
10-14-23 | Predators v. Bruins -171 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 27 m | Show |
The opening to the Boston Bruins' centennial season was no on-ice masterpiece. After David Pastrnak's two goals helped the Bruins grind out a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, Boston will try to keep improving its game on Saturday as it welcomes in the Nashville Predators to complete a season-opening, two-game homestand. As for the opener, there was some good, and some bad. All to be expected. I expect Boston the be much better than they were in game one. |
|||||||
10-14-23 | Blackhawks +130 v. Canadiens | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 12 m | Show |
Connor Bedard will make his first trip north of the United States border when the Chicago Blackhawks visit the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Bedard, the highly touted No. 1 overall pick by Chicago in the 2023 NHL Draft, notched his first NHL goal in a 3-1 loss at the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, a day after producing his first assist in a 4-2 victory at the Pittsburgh Penguins. |
|||||||
10-13-23 | Penguins v. Capitals OVER 6.5 | Top | 4-0 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 4 m | Show |
Pittsburgh played Tuesday, but the Penguins didn't exactly turn the page as they hoped. Despite a roughly 50 percent turnover in the roster during the offseason, they were plagued by lingering frustrations from last season. They had some defensive lapses, didn't rev the engines later in the game and blew a two-goal lead in a 4-2 setback to the Chicago Blackhawks. Most of Pittsburgh's newcomers could be described as players in support roles. The main guys, then, saw all-too-familiar problems in the opening loss. Last season, the Penguins lost nine games in which they led after two periods. They'll be plenty of scoring in this one. |

10-13-23 | Coyotes v. Devils OVER 6.5 | Top | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 47 m | Show |
The New Jersey Devils know what it's like to finally see a lengthy rebuild produce results. Now the Arizona Coyotes would like to begin experiencing the same thing. The Coyotes will open their season Friday night when they oppose Devils in Newark, N.J., the beginning of a four-game Arizona road trip. The Devils, fresh off their deepest trip into the Stanley Cup playoffs in more than a decade, will be completing a back-to-back set at home after edging the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in their season opener on Thursday. The Devils snapped a four-season playoff drought last year. They collected a franchise-record 112 points in the regular season before outlasting the New York Rangers in a seven-game first-round series -- New Jersey's first postseason series victory since reaching the Stanley Cup Final in the spring of 2012. New Jersey fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but the taste of playoff success was enough for management to double down on its young core and coaching staff. General manager Tom Fitzgerald signed Timo Meier, who turned 27 this week, and 25-year-old Jesper Bratt to eight-year contracts while also re-signing 32-year-old left winger Erik Haula, who was one of just four Devils skaters aged 30 or older last season. In addition, head coach Lindy Ruff received a multiyear extension on Wednesday. Jack Hughes, who collected a franchise-record 99 points while playing as a 21-year-old last season, scored twice in a span of 5:04 late in the second period Thursday to help the Devils overcome an early deficit. |

10-12-23 | Seattle Kraken v. Predators -108 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 3 m | Show |
Opening night did not go the way either the Seattle Kraken or Nashville Predators had hoped. Each will get the chance to make up for that Thursday night when the teams meet in Nashville. The Predators opened the season Tuesday with a 5-3 loss at Tampa Bay despite a goal and an assist from newcomer Ryan O'Reilly. A few hours later, the Kraken lost 4-1 on the road against the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights. At least the Kraken got to view a championship banner-raising ceremony. Predators bounce back at home |
|||||||
10-12-23 | Red Wings v. Devils -1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 22 m | Show |
The Devils racked up 52 wins and 112 points last season after failing to qualify for the postseason the previous four campaigns. They lost to Carolina in the second round of the playoffs. New Jersey acquired 34-goal scorer Tyler Toffoli from the Calgary Flames but otherwise will ride with the group that produced the third-most points in the league last season. The Devils are led by Jack Hughes, who had team-leading totals in goals (43), assists (56) and points (99) in 78 games last season. He added 11 more points (six goals, five assists) in 12 postseason contests. The top overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft should be even more dangerous after his breakout season. |
|||||||
10-11-23 | Avalanche -110 v. Kings | Top | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 19 h 12 m | Show |
Colorado won't have Landeskog, the team's captain, again this year as he recovers from major knee surgery, but the team tried to address its depth-scoring issues with offseason moves. The Avalanche added veteran Ryan Johansen in a trade with Nashville and signed free agent Jonathan Drouin to shore up their top-six forward liabilities. J.T. Compher, who moved up to center the second line last season, signed with Detroit. Colorado won it all two years ago because of depth and top-level talent, and the latter is still there. Nathan MacKinnon is one of the best centers in the league and shifts his game into another gear in the playoffs, and Cale Makar is considered by many to be the best defenseman in the NHL. The Avalanche have had significant departures, most notably defenseman Erik Johnson, but the blue-line corps remains strong. The third and fourth lines are important for depth scoring, so Colorado hopes that Andrew Cogliano has recovered from two neck fractures suffered in the first-round loss to Seattle. |
|||||||
10-11-23 | Blackhawks v. Bruins OVER 6 | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -108 | 16 h 18 m | Show |
A pair of Original Six franchises at the beginning of new eras will clash on Wednesday night when the host Boston Bruins open their season against rookie sensation Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago caps a back-to-back after scoring four unanswered goals to lift the lid on its season with a 4-2 win at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. After scoring the NHL's fewest goals during their 26-win 2022-23 campaign, the Blackhawks are looking to the 18-year-old Bedard to provide a major offensive spark. The most recent No. 1 overall draft pick became the youngest player to record a point in his NHL debut since 2013, getting an assist on Ryan Donato's second-period goal. Bedard's five shots on goal in 21:29 of ice time were a team high. |
|||||||
10-10-23 | Seattle Kraken v. Golden Knights -165 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 34 h 36 m | Show |
The Golden Knights traded veteran forward Reilly Smith to Pittsburgh for a third-round draft pick but the rest of the top three lines, led by Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault and leading playoff scorer Jack Eichel, as well as the top three defensive pairs and goaltender Adin Hill, all return. |
|||||||
10-10-23 | Predators v. Lightning UNDER 6.5 | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -120 | 29 h 35 m | Show |
Tampa Bay will begin its quest for a fourth Stanley Cup on Tuesday by hosting the Nashville Predators, but the Lightning will do it under decidedly unfamiliar circumstances. Coach Jon Cooper's group will be without star goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy for at least the first two months after the 2019 Vezina Trophy winner underwent back surgery in late September. That predicament -- playing perhaps one-third of the season's games without one of the NHL's premier backstops -- adds pressure to not let the campaign slip away before 2024 arrives. Cooper will turn to Swedish goaltender Jonas Johansson, 28, whose track record over 35 career NHL matches suggests the Lightning's offense will need to be in top form. Over his four-year career, Johansson is 11-13-4 with a 3.35 goals-against average and an .886 save percentage, though he did play his best hockey in two recent stints with the Colorado Avalanche. In his first two starts this preseason, he denied a combined 67 shots in shutouts over the Carolina Hurricanes (42 saves) and Florida Panthers (25). Don't overreact, that's exactly what this number is counting on. |

03-29-23 | Islanders v. Capitals +104 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 37 m | Show |
The New York Islanders will attempt to bolster their bid for a playoff spot and deliver a blow to the flickering hopes of the Washington Capitals on Wednesday when the teams meet in the nation's capital. The Islanders (38-28-9, 85 points) enter the opener of their three-game road trip having won seven of their last 11 games (7-3-1). While they hold the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, the Capitals (34-32-8, 76 points), in turn, have lost four of their last five games (1-3-1) to find themselves in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2013-14. Kyle Palmieri collected two goals and an assist to help New York snap a two-game winless skid with 5-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Monday. |
|||||||
03-26-23 | Blues +1.5 v. Kings | Top | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 14 h 30 m | Show |
The Los Angeles Kings can set a franchise record for the longest point streak when they host the St. Louis Blues on Sunday night. The Kings have earned at least a point in 11 straight games (9-0-2), which ties the team record set in 1974 and matched in 2011, 2013 and again on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory against the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Los Angeles (42-20-10, 94 points) continues to stay on the heels of the equally red-hot Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division standings. Vegas has held Los Angeles off by going 11-2-0 in its past 13 games to maintain a four-point lead over the Kings with nine games left for the Golden Knights and 10 for Los Angeles. The point streak by Los Angeles has been a major topic of conversation around the NHL, but it hasn't been mentioned among the coaches and players. |
|||||||
03-25-23 | Senators v. Devils -1.5 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 137 | 7 h 22 m | Show |
The New Jersey Devils will aim to reverse their recent fortunes and secure a postseason berth on Saturday when they host the Ottawa Senators in Newark, N.J. The Devils (45-19-8, 98 points) have dropped five of their past six games (1-3-2) and reside two points out of punching their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They also sit two points behind the first-place Carolina Hurricanes in the Metropolitan Division. Jack Hughes collected two goals and an assist in New Jersey's 5-4 setback to the host Buffalo Sabres on Friday. The Devils scored two goals in the third period before seeing their comeback bid fall just short as they attempted to secure a postseason berth. "At the end, it doesn't matter," New Jersey captain Nico Hischier said. "We lost the game. Wasn't a good game." Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler said the team was thinking too much about the playoffs and not as much about Friday's opponent. |
|||||||
03-25-23 | Red Wings +125 v. Flyers | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 27 m | Show |
Despite an array of injuries, the young Philadelphia Flyers are growing up. The Flyers improved to 3-0-1 in their last four games following a stirring 5-4 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. Philadelphia (27-32-12, 66 points) will look to keep its positive momentum moving forward when it hosts the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday afternoon. "Pucks are going in for us," said Flyers coach John Tortorella, who picked up his 700th career victory after outlasting the Wild. "We're scoring some goals obviously. When we were losing some games, we weren't playing that bad, we just couldn't find the net. ... Now pucks have been going for us." The Flyers have been without key injured players such as Cam Atkinson, Sean Couturier, Ryan Ellis and Travis Konecny, among others. |
|||||||
03-22-23 | Penguins +140 v. Avalanche | Top | 5-2 | Win | 140 | 11 h 45 m | Show |
The Colorado Avalanche are trying to become the third team in eight years to pull off back-to-back Stanley Cup titles. The Pittsburgh Penguins did just that in 2016-17 and Colorado is on a mission to do the same, having won six straight and looking as determined as it did last season, when it won its first Cup since 2001. The Avalanche (41-22-6, 88 points) will go for their seventh straight win when they host the reeling Penguins on Wednesday night in Denver. Pittsburgh won the first game, 2-1 in overtime, at home on Feb. 7. In that game, Colorado defenseman Cale Makar suffered a concussion after taking a shot to the head from Penguins forward Jeff Carter. Pittsburgh (34-26-10, 78 points) has lost four in a row and dropped out of the second wild card in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins have reached the playoffs 16 straight seasons, winning three championships in that span, but are in danger of not extending the streak to 17 straight. |
|||||||
03-20-23 | Flames v. Kings -105 | Top | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 20 h 46 m | Show |
The Calgary Flames are running out of real estate in their bid to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Working overtime hasn't been the answer either. The Flames are scheduled to play the first of back-to-back games in California when they face the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. Calgary (31-24-15, 77 points) entered Sunday four points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the final wild-card spot from the Western Conference with 12 games remaining, and they're a mere point in front of the Nashville Predators. "We have to get every point we can," Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson said. "We have a big trip coming up where we need to get four points." The Flames are coming off a 6-5 overtime loss to the visiting Dallas Stars on Saturday, dropping Calgary's record to 6-15 in overtime and shootouts this season. |
|||||||
03-15-23 | Islanders -180 v. Ducks | Top | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 23 m | Show |
The disappointment surrounding the New York Islanders was palpable after a defeat on Tuesday, but the suddenly struggling club must quickly put that frustration in the past before facing the host Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. New York, which currently holds the Eastern Conference's second wild-card spot, lost 5-2 to the Los Angeles Kings to start a three-game California trip. Making the setback worse for the Islanders was that they held a 1-0 lead after the first period and were in a tie game when a couple of penalties proved costly. Matt Martin was assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty for throwing the helmet of Kings forward Rasmus Kupari after they took coincidental roughing minors. Then, 30 seconds later, Zach Parise was whistled for kneeing. The Kings broke open the game with two power-play goals one minute apart before they extended the lead to 4-1 and cruised to victory. |
|||||||
03-13-23 | Sabres v. Maple Leafs -1.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 49 m | Show |
The Buffalo Sabres will bid to boost their flickering playoff hopes Monday night when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres trail the New York Islanders by seven points for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference after a 2-1 overtime loss at home to the New York Rangers on Saturday. The Sabres, who have one win in their past seven games (1-5-1), open a three-game road trip on Monday. The Sabres played a solid defense against the Rangers before falling on Artemi Panarin's overtime goal with defenseman Rasmus Dahlin in the penalty box. "This one, it's really tough because we played a good game," Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen said. "How tight we played on defense, how good we were, I think, in both ends. It stinks to lose this one, but it is what it is." It was a good defensive response to a disastrous 10-4 home loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday. |
|||||||
03-12-23 | Bruins -1.5 v. Red Wings | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 31 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins made history on Saturday with a hard-fought home victory against Detroit on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins will look for back-to-back victories over the Red Wings when they visit Detroit on Sunday. The Bruins became the fastest team in NHL history to reach 50 wins with their 3-2 victory. Boston got to the half-century mark in 64 games. The previous record of 66 games was shared by the 1995-96 Red Wings and 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning. Garnet Hathaway scored on a rebound at 13:54 of the third period as Boston rallied from a two-goal deficit. "Fifty wins is great. And it's kind of a testament to how hard this team has continued to work throughout the year," Hathaway said. "But I think guys want 51, you know? Guys are excited to play this team tomorrow already." Detroit, which has lost seven of its last eight games, scored twice in the first five minutes on Andrew Copp's shorthanded goal and Alex Chiasson's power play tally. |
|||||||
03-11-23 | Red Wings v. Bruins -1.5 | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -140 | 11 h 47 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins are coming off the type of game that has been few and far between this season. After allowing three unanswered goals to the Edmonton Oilers in Thursday's 3-2 loss, Boston will look to bounce back when it plays host to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday to begin a weekend home-and-home series between the Original Six teams. Despite leading 2-0 on first-period goals by Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery described his team as "non-competitive" offensively. As a result, a season-high win streak was snapped at 10 games. "Turning down shots, not driving to hard areas, not winning enough battles to create O-zone time," Montgomery said. "We sat back at times. Where we should've been pushing the envelope, we were sealing the envelope." The Bruins (49-9-5) still find themselves in a comfortable position following their first loss since Feb. 11 and only their third at home all season. They still lead the overall NHL standings by nine points over Carolina. Boston entered Thursday with a chance to become the first team to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. |
|||||||
02-27-23 | Red Wings v. Senators -1.5 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 185 | 9 h 6 m | Show |
Derek Lalonde hopes a frustrating loss won't bring his team down. The first-year Detroit coach watched his players put 45 shots on goal against Tampa Bay on Saturday night and still get shut out 3-0. Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy cooled down a Red Wings team that had won seven of its previous eight games. Detroit now plays back-to-back nights at Ottawa on Monday and Tuesday. "With all the winning we've done a good job not getting too high. That has led to good performance after good performance, good start after good start," he said. "It's the same message with a low -- don't get too low. We've got to move on from this. It's going to be a really fun chase for a playoff spot. Embrace it." The Red Wings were blanked for just the third time this season. Tampa Bay scored a first-period goal and another with seven seconds left in the second period. Detroit outshot the Lightning in that period 19-3. Tampa Bay added an empty-net goal. |
|||||||
02-19-23 | Predators v. Wild UNDER 6 | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -115 | 4 h 1 m | Show |
The Nashville Predators will look to build on a rare offensive explosion when they visit the stingy Minnesota Wild in a Central Division matchup on Sunday. Nashville, which had lost three of four games while totaling five goals, erupted for a new season high in a 7-3 win against the visiting Florida Panthers on Saturday. Tommy Novak scored two goals, Roman Josi had a goal and two assists, and Ryan Johansen had a goal and an assist as Nashville rallied from a 2-1 first-period deficit. Kevin Lankinen made 30 saves, and Ryan McDonagh tied his career high with three assists. The Predators revert back to their lack of offense today. |
|||||||
02-17-23 | Rangers v. Oilers -120 | Top | 5-4 | Loss | -120 | 11 h 54 m | Show |
Two of the hottest teams and hottest offenses in hockey match up Friday when the New York Rangers visit the Edmonton Oilers. The Rangers are on a six-game winning streak and an eight-game points streak (7-0-1), outscoring their opponents by a 39-22 margin over those eight games. New York has scored six goals in each of its last three games, marking the team's longest six-goal streak since the 1988-89 season. Edmonton saw an 11-game points streak (9-0-2) end with a 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, but the Oilers picked up another point in Wednesday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings. It was a hard-earned point for the Oilers, who had to overcome three two-goal deficits to force overtime despite outshooting Detroit by a 45-23 margin. |
|||||||
02-17-23 | Rangers v. Oilers UNDER 7 | Top | 5-4 | Loss | -125 | 11 h 46 m | Show |
The Rangers are one of the NHL's least-penalized teams, which could help neutralize the Oilers' deadly power play. But New York might be one of the few teams that could rival Edmonton in a scoring duel, given how well Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad are performing. Both players are on five-game points streaks, with Zibanejad collecting nine points (seven goals, two assists) and Panarin 12 points (six goals, six assists). All of Panarin's goals in the stretch have come in New York's last two games, making him the fifth player in Rangers history to tally six goals in a two-game span. New York forward Jimmy Vesey described Panarin and Zibanejad as "world-class players, and they can be game-breakers every night. So if one's not going, the other one might be going that night, but (if they're both scoring), we're tough to beat." Of course, the Oilers have their own powerhouse duo in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. McDavid leads the NHL in goals (42) and points (99) and is on the verge of the sixth 100-point season of his eight-year career. With 31 goals and 49 assists over 53 games, Draisaitl is also on pace for his fourth 100-point season. The Oilers have a seven-game points streak (4-0-3) on home ice, while the Rangers are 5-0-3 in their last eight road contests. |
|||||||
02-11-23 | Penguins +102 v. Kings | Top | 0-6 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 56 m | Show |
After recording a pair of victories as they returned from the All-Star break, the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins now face the well-rested Los Angeles Kings in a matchup on Saturday. The freshness scales are tilted even further considering the Penguins played Friday, earning a 6-3 road victory over the Anaheim Ducks. The Kings have been off since Jan. 31, plotting their course for the final two months in an attempt to earn a playoff berth. Both teams own the top wild-card spot in their respective conferences. The Penguins followed a 2-1 overtime victory at home over the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday by thrashing the Ducks. |
|||||||
01-20-23 | Senators v. Penguins OVER 6.5 | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 20 m | Show |
The Pittsburgh Penguins will enter the second half of their home-and-home set against the visiting Ottawa Senators on Friday piping hot under the collar. The Penguins aren't so much angry at the Senators, who won Wednesday at home 5-4 in overtime. Instead, they were left seething at themselves and over the officiating after they were assessed eight penalties in the first meeting and gave up four goals to Ottawa's power play. Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan seemed to have a difficult time containing his anger over the circumstances in the game. |
|||||||
01-15-23 | Coyotes v. Jets OVER 6 | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -120 | 8 h 28 m | Show |
The Arizona Coyotes have lost eight straight games and have the unenviable task Sunday night of facing the Winnipeg Jets, the co-leaders of the Central Division, on the road. The Coyotes come into the game off a 2-1 road loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night, one in which a short span in the second period put the Coyotes in a hole they couldn't escape. Mats Zuccarello and Frederick Gaudreau scored 51 seconds apart to give the Wild a 2-0 lead. Lawson Crouse scored his team-leading 16th goal of the season in the third period for the Coyotes, but Wild goaltender Marc Andre-Fleury allowed nothing else as he made 27 saves. |
|||||||
01-14-23 | Devils v. Kings UNDER 6.5 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -104 | 11 h 12 m | Show |
The Los Angeles Kings haven't been at full strength up front since before Christmas, but they keep finding ways to make up ground in the standings. The Kings will try to match their season high with a fourth consecutive win when they host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Los Angeles has been without center Trevor Moore (upper body) the past eight games and right winger Arthur Kaliyev (lower body) the past 10, but they still posted two wins against the Pacific Division-leading Vegas Golden Knights in that span. The Kings have also knocked off the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche, the surging Boston Bruins and such Western Conference powers as the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames in the past month. In their most recent game, a 4-3 win against the visiting San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, the Kings also were without left winger Viktor Arvidsson, who was ill. |

01-14-23 | Flames v. Stars OVER 5.5 | Top | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 3 h 47 m | Show |
Less than one second separated the Dallas Stars from a shutout victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday. Instead of returning home for Saturday's matinee matchup with the Calgary Flames riding high, the Stars must recover from a shocking loss in which the Rangers scored in the final tick of the clock during regulation and escaped with a 2-1 overtime victory. "Everyone obviously wanted to win that one as bad as I did," said Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger. "It just sucks when guys play that great in front of you. "We'll probably be thinking about that for a while." The Stars, who remain atop the Central Division -- one point behind the Vegas Golden Knights for first place in the Western Conference -- and are on a 6-2-1 run, must turn the page quickly. After all, every team will earn wins snatched from the jaws of defeat and vice versa. |
|||||||
01-13-23 | Devils v. Ducks UNDER 6.5 | Top | 6-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 21 m | Show |
Feeling at least somewhat encouraged after earning consecutive victories for the first time in more than a month, the New Jersey Devils will begin their road trip to the West Coast in a meeting with the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. The Devils earned a 5-3 road victory over the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday thanks to a four-goal onslaught that began with less than a minute remaining in the second period. Dawson Mercer delivered his first two-goal game midway through his second season. With the Devils trailing 3-1, Mercer scored with 52 seconds remaining in the second period before Jesper Boqvist tied the game 18 seconds later. Mercer scored the go-ahead goal near the midway point of the third period. |

01-12-23 | Hurricanes v. Blue Jackets UNDER 6.5 | Top | 6-2 | Loss | -115 | 5 h 30 m | Show |
Two teams mired in slumps look to get back on the winning track when the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The Blue Jackets have lost four of five and are coming off their 10th straight road loss, a 6-3 defeat at Tampa Bay on Tuesday night. Tim Berni scored his first NHL goal, Patrik Laine had two assists and Elvis Merzlikins made 40 saves for the Blue Jackets. |
|||||||
01-10-23 | Devils v. Hurricanes UNDER 6 | Top | 5-3 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 51 m | Show |
Now it's the Carolina Hurricanes who are trying to get back on track. It's not as if they have deviated that far, but more than a week has passed since they've won a game; they've lost three in a row overall. The New Jersey Devils, who seem to be snapping out of a funk, will be the opposition for the Hurricanes on Tuesday night at Raleigh, N.C. "We've got to get it all together and play a full 60," Hurricanes forward Martin Necas said. "Try to reset and go back and try to play our game. There are no secrets, really." Carolina and New Jersey are the top two teams in the Metropolitan Division. This meeting will mark the midway mark in the regular season for both teams. This also will be the third Devils-Hurricanes meeting in about a three-week period. The Hurricanes won 4-1 at home on Dec. 20 and prevailed 5-4 in a shootout at New Jersey on Jan. 1. The Devils have won three of their past five games, with one of the setbacks to Carolina. |
|||||||
01-07-23 | Bruins v. Sharks UNDER 6.5 | Top | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 12 h 35 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins are off to one of the best starts in NHL history, and they hope to continue those winning ways when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night. With Thursday's 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings to kick off a three-game California trip, the Bruins tied the 1944-45 Montreal Canadiens for the second spot on the league's all-time list for fewest games to reach 30 wins. Needing 38 games to hit the mark, the Bruins (30-4-4) are second only to the 1929-30 Bruins, who needed only 35 games. "We just want to keep things rolling," Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman said after beating the Kings. "We know how good we are, and games like this, where you have a little adversity with travel or whatever, you want to get on top and get those two points." The Bruins are unbeaten in regulation in the past 12 games (9-0-3), and it's not just their stars producing. Against the Kings, Trent Frederic scored a pair of goals 34 second apart midway through the third period to break open a 2-2 game. Frederic has nine goals in 35 games this season. He netted eight in 60 outings in 2021-22. |
|||||||
01-03-23 | Flames v. Jets OVER 6 | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 4 m | Show |
Connor Hellebuyck's value to the Winnipeg Jets has been obvious for years, but they received a huge reminder the past few weeks as they head into Tuesday's home game with the Calgary Flames on a bit of a roll. Amidst a difficult wave of injuries, the Jets struggled through half of December but finished the month with a pair of victories, the latest a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on New Year's Eve. In that outing, Hellebuyck -- who won the Vezina Trophy for the league's top goalie in the 2019-20 season -- sparkled while making 31 saves. The Jets were outshot 32-17, killed all five penalties and snapped the point-scoring streak of the league's leading scorer, Connor McDavid, at 17 games. "I don't think we want to make it that hard for him, but it seems like when we need him the most it seems like he's there," Winnipeg forward Kyle Connor said. "Clutch times, he's a clutch player." Connor has been clutch, too. After struggling to start the season with only two goals in 14 games, the 47-goal scorer from last season has netted 14 goals and 31 points in his last 23 games, including the game-winner in Edmonton. |
|||||||
12-31-22 | Senators v. Red Wings UNDER 6.5 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 103 | 7 h 26 m | Show |
Drake Batherson and Alex DeBrincat haven't cooled off since the Ottawa Senators' last visit to Detroit. The Senators will visit the Red Wings once again on New Year's Eve. Batherson scored twice and DeBrincat collected three assists in a 6-3 Ottawa victory over Detroit on Dec. 17. Batherson will carry a 12-game point streak (seven goals, 10 assists) into the rematch. DeBrincat has scored four goals in the last three games, including the tying and winning goals in a 4-3 road victory over Washington on Thursday. DeBrincat, acquired from Chicago during the offseason, had six goals and 11 assists entering the month. He's notched seven goals and 11 assists in December. He has at least one point in 12 of the last 13 games. "In any new system, it takes some time," center Shane Pinto said. "He's in a new spot and you knew he was going to start scoring. It was just a matter of time. He's such an elite player and he's just getting more and more comfortable and he's just showing everyone what he can do. I'm not surprised at all." The Senators, who have won two straight, erased 2-0 and 3-1 deficits. They are 8-3-2 this month. |
|||||||
12-31-22 | Flyers v. Kings UNDER 6 | Top | 4-2 | Push | 0 | 5 h 37 m | Show |
The Los Angeles Kings used their lowest point of the season as a springboard to launch their most successful stretch, and they'll try to maintain their momentum when they host the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon. Los Angeles is 6-0-1 since a 6-0 road loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Dec. 13. The latest triumph for the Kings came on Thursday night against the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche when Los Angeles rallied from a two-goal third-period deficit on the road to win 5-4 in a shootout. "I think we learned from the Buffalo game," Kings forward Phillip Danault said. "(Thursday) was a big, big character win." The Flyers started their three-game West Coast trip in a similar fashion on Thursday night. |
|||||||
12-30-22 | Predators v. Ducks OVER 6 | Top | 6-1 | Win | 100 | 8 h 9 m | Show |
It hasn't been an easy season for the Anaheim Ducks, languishing among the bottom three teams in the NHL. But there have been some positives of late, which the team will look to build on when they host the Nashville Predators on Friday. The Ducks enter the contest with a 3-2-1 record in their past six games and are coming off a 3-2 shootout victory against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday. "Our chemistry has been building all year," Ducks forward Adam Henrique said. Anaheim is near or at the bottom of the NHL in most statistical categories, including goals scored. They've managed just 83 for an average of 2.31 per game. At the other end, they've allowed a league-high 146 goals, an average of 4.06 per game. |
|||||||
12-29-22 | Flyers v. Sharks UNDER 6.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -120 | 12 h 18 m | Show |
Among the biggest problems, this season for the struggling Philadelphia Flyers has been the offense, namely a lack of it. The Flyers continue a five-game road trip, interrupted by the holiday break, with three games in California -- beginning with a Thursday night game against the San Jose Sharks. Offensively challenged Philadelphia is seeing improvement in that area. It's a small sample size, but the Flyers have scored 13 goals in their past three games and three or more in each of their past four. "The results haven't been there ... but I think our game is coming along," center Scott Laughton said. "Defensively, we're way better. Obviously, we're having a tough time scoring, but I think the belief in the room is a lot different than it's been the last couple of years. And that goes a long way." The Flyers return to action for the first time since taking a 6-5 road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. They have lost two straight games and on a 2-5-2 skid. |
|||||||
12-29-22 | Senators v. Capitals OVER 6 | Top | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 4 m | Show |
The Washington Capitals will try to extend a five-game win streak when they host the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. The Capitals haven't lost since Dec. 15, ripping off wins against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Senators, Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers. Washington has outscored opponents 20-8 during that stretch. Washington has also won 10 of its last 11 dating back to Dec. 5, winning as many games in December as it had won in October and November combined. The Capitals are 13-3-1 since Nov. 23. In their last outing, the Capitals blanked the Rangers 4-0 on the strength of 32 saves from Darcy Kuemper. It was Kuemper's third shutout of the season. |
|||||||
12-27-22 | Avalanche v. Coyotes OVER 5.5 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 11 h 44 m | Show |
A narrow victory is still a victory. As long as the result is two points, the Colorado Avalanche would happily accept another tight contest when they visit the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday in Tempe, Arizona. Colorado is on a four-game winning streak, with its last three wins coming in either overtime or a shootout. The Avalanche are 6-1-0 in their last seven games, collecting five one-goal wins and outscoring opponents by a modest 17-12 margin. "We've been fighting, grinding out wins, low-scoring games," forward Evan Rodrigues said. "Even when we're down, guys believe we can come back. We've just got to stick with it." Rodrigues recorded the assist on Samuel Girard's game-winning goal in the Avalanche's last game, a 3-2 overtime win over the Nashville Predators on Friday. The dynamic offense was a cornerstone of Colorado's run to the Stanley Cup last summer. This season, however, long-term injuries to Nathan McKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog have sapped the Avalanche of some of their scoring punch. |
|||||||
12-08-22 | Jets v. Blues UNDER 6.5 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -120 | 1 h 43 m | Show |
The Blues earned a 7-4 road victory over the New York Islanders Tuesday to snap a four-game losing streak. They broke out to a 5-1 lead and held on for the win. "It's really nice to win," Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly said. "It's something we haven't had in a while. Made it a little too exciting at the end there. But the big thing is we won a game. There's a lot of good things we did tonight. A few bad bounces in just a few minutes that gave them some life and spark. But at the end of the day it's a big win, and there's something to build off." The Blues won despite missing winger Pavel Buchnevich (lower-body injury) and defenseman Torey Krug (upper-body injury). Buchnevich has eight goals and six assists in his last 10 games. After winning seven straight games last month, the Blues lost six of seven games before beating the Islanders. Once again they are searching for a turning point to their season. |
|||||||
11-26-22 | Stars v. Avalanche -155 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 35 m | Show |
A break early Friday morning gave the Colorado Avalanche, well, a break. The Avalanche were prepared to play the Predators in Nashville on Friday afternoon before a water main break at Bridgestone Arena forced the game to be postponed to a later date. The NHL also postponed the Predators' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. So instead of hosting the Dallas Stars in Denver on Saturday in the second game of a back-to-back set, the Avalanche flew home and had a day off while Dallas rallied to force overtime before dropping a 5-4 decision to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night. The Stars are on a seven-game point streak (4-0-3) despite the loss. The unexpected day off gave Colorado a chance to heal a little. Mikko Rantanen took a stick to the face during a 4-3 loss to Vancouver on Wednesday night, and Evan Rodrigues left the game with a lower-body injury and didn't play after the first intermission. Coach Jared Bednar said Thursday that Rodrigues was day-to-day but there were indications he might not miss much time. The team assigned Anton Blidh and Sampo Ranta to the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League. The downside of getting an extra day off is the Avalanche had more time to think about squandering a game to Vancouver. Colorado gave up two goals in the third period to lose in regulation and end a brief three-game winning streak. |
|||||||
11-23-22 | Oilers v. Islanders -115 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 16 m | Show |
The New York Islanders overcame some imperfections to earn a much-needed road win Monday night. The Edmonton Oilers couldn't do the same -- but they had a reasonable excuse as the latest team to fall victim to the red-hot New Jersey Devils. The Islanders and Oilers will both be looking to play more complete games Wednesday night, when New York hosts Edmonton in a Thanksgiving Eve clash in Elmont, N.Y. Both teams were off Tuesday following their games a night earlier. The Islanders overcame a late deficit in the third period to edge the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 in overtime. The Oilers fell to the surging Devils, 5-2. The Islanders' win ended a two-game losing streak and salvaged a split of a four-game road trip, even as New York gave up the first seven shots of Monday's game and were outshot 32-24. According to Natural Stat Trick, the Maple Leafs had 12 high-danger chances compared to five for New York. |
|||||||
11-23-22 | Jets v. Wild -150 | Top | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 59 m | Show |
The Wild are coming off an overtime victory against the Hurricanes, a 2-1 result on Saturday that snapped a three-game (0-2-1) winless drought. Minnesota was the team with the late comeback on that night, trailing until Sam Steel tied the score 17:23 into the third period. Steel also earned an assist for helping to set up Alex Goligoski's overtime winner. Wild coach Dean Evason said he hopes the game will be a turning point and a reminder of how successful his team can be when it is at top form. "That's who we are. That team looked like us, right?" Evason asked rhetorically. "(Carolina) pushed us to play like us. ... It's a really good template for us to remember, to reinforce." Minnesota is 0-for-14 on the power play over its past five games. Solving the power-play woes could be difficult against the Jets, whose 85.7 percent (36-for-42) penalty-kill percentage is among the best in the league. The Wild's Kirill Kaprizov has seven points (two goals, five assists) during his six-game points streak. Kaprizov is two games away from matching his career-best, as he collected a pair of eight-game points streaks last season. Filip Gustavsson likely will receive another start on Wednesday, since Marc-Andre Fleury (upper-body injury) is still on the Wild's injured reserve. Gustavsson looked good against the Hurricanes, stopping 20 of 21 shots. |
|||||||
11-23-22 | Bruins v. Panthers +105 | Top | 2-5 | Win | 105 | 4 h 54 m | Show |
The Panthers are still adjusting after making a couple of big offseason decisions, trading away homegrown star Jonathan Huberdeau and bringing in Paul Maurice as a coach. The Panthers also traded valuable defenseman MacKenzie Weegar in that same deal, which brought back power forward Matthew Tkachuk from the Calgary Flames. So far, it hasn't clicked. The Panthers will enter Wednesday on a three-game losing streak (0-2-1), allowing 15 regulation goals during that span. Tkachuk has done his part, leading Florida in assists (17) and points (25). Carter Verhaeghe, who scored a career-high 24 goals last season, leads the Panthers with 11 tallies, putting him on pace for a career year. But some of Florida's other big guns have been somewhat subdued so far, including Aleksander Barkov (four goals), Sam Reinhart (five), and Sam Bennett (five). Last season, Barkov scored 39 goals, Reinhart had 33 and Bennett netted 28 -- all career highs. It's been frustrating for the Panthers, who earlier this season had to endure 11 games without their top defenseman, Aaron Ekblad while starting goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has struggled (4-5-1, 3.62 GAA). The Panthers are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday. In that game, Florida had 50 shots on goal and still lost despite Columbus putting only 23 on net. "We've got to get some people in front of the net to score some hard, ugly goals," Maurice said. "We're having a hard time completing plays around the net." |
|||||||
11-23-22 | Blues v. Sabres UNDER 6.5 | Top | 2-6 | Loss | -104 | 4 h 40 m | Show |
The St. Louis Blues will ride momentum into their game at Buffalo on Wednesday, while the Sabres will bring a sense of relief. St. Louis finds itself on a seven-game winning streak and hasn't lost since Nov. 8. "Winning cures everything, everyone feels better about it," Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly said. "We have that belief back in our group and it's exciting. It's fun coming to the rink." The Sabres are coming off a 7-2 road victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday that snapped an eight-game losing streak. "It has taken a weight off my shoulders, I can tell you that, personally," Sabres coach Don Granato said after the game. "It's great. It's fun to see the guys play that way, obviously. Lots of guys, I mean, they care and they work. We're young. "You see the care behind the scenes. It's really nice to see them enjoy this tonight." The Blues know how the Sabres have felt. Prior to the current winning streak, St. Louis lost a team-record eight consecutive games in regulation while getting outscored 38-12. |
|||||||
11-19-22 | Islanders v. Stars -139 | Top | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 20 m | Show |
Following a successful road stretch, the high-scoring Dallas Stars try to hand the visiting New York Islanders a second straight defeat on Saturday night. Given the Stars' potent offense, the Islanders can't afford another rough opening period. Sitting atop the Central Division with 22 points, Dallas ranks among the NHL leaders with 66 goals. The Stars have totaled 38 of those goals while going 5-2-1 in November and scored at least four in each of the last four games. Roope Hintz scored twice while Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin each had a goal with an assist during Thursday's 6-4 win at Florida to cap a 2-0-1 road trip. |
|||||||
11-17-22 | Canadiens v. Blue Jackets -108 | Top | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 49 m | Show |
The improving Columbus Blue Jackets look to continue their climb out of the Metropolitan Division cellar Thursday when they host the Montreal Canadiens. After a five-game losing streak, the Blue Jackets have earned points in their last three games, including a pair of home-ice wins over Philadelphia. Thursday's game is the second of a six-game homestand for Columbus. On Tuesday, Vladislav Gavrikov scored at 3:14 of overtime to give the Blue Jackets their second overtime win, with Gavrikov accounting for both game-winners. Boone Jenner scored twice, and Eric Robinson had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, who did get a dose of bad news in the win. Elvis Merzlikins allowed two goals on 17 shots before leaving the game in the second period with an undisclosed injury. Merzlikins was replaced by Joonas Korpisalo, who made 18 saves. Columbus lost a pair of two-goal leads against Philadelphia before prevailing in overtime. |
|||||||
11-16-22 | Sabres v. Senators UNDER 7 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 24 m | Show |
Two teams looking to snap out of funks will collide when the Buffalo Sabres visit the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. Buffalo arrives in the Canadian capital amid a six-game losing streak after a 5-4 defeat against the visiting Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. The Sabres spotted the Canucks three two-goal leads in the contest, including a 2-0 gap before the midpoint of the opening period. Buffalo pulled to within a goal multiple times, only to have Vancouver respond. "Too easy out of the gate," Buffalo coach Don Granato said. "That is a big lesson that needs to be learned now. Period." The Sabres had won three straight before the slide began with a loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Nov. 4. Buffalo has allowed 29 goals over the past six games and has trailed entering the third period four times during that stretch. |
|||||||
11-15-22 | Canucks +110 v. Sabres | Top | 5-4 | Win | 110 | 4 h 59 m | Show |
Both mired in losing streaks, the Vancouver Canucks visit the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday in a battle of teams desperate for a breakout performance. The Canucks have lost their last three games while the Sabres have suffered five consecutive losses. Each team lost to the league-leading Boston Bruins over the weekend -- Buffalo had a 3-1 setback on home ice Saturday, and Vancouver a 5-2 defeat in Boston on Sunday. The Sabres held a 1-0 lead until 18:51 of the second period before the Bruins scored three unanswered goals. Tage Thompson scored a tremendous short-handed marker for Buffalo's only score of the game. |
|||||||
11-15-22 | Capitals v. Panthers UNDER 6.5 | Top | 2-5 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 52 m | Show |
Defenseman Aaron Ekblad and winger Matthew Tkachuk are back for the Florida Panthers. Next, the Panthers will try to get back on the winning track Tuesday night when they host the slumping Washington Capitals. Ekblad played on Saturday for the first time since he suffered a lower-body injury on Oct. 17. Tkachuk also returned Saturday but from a shorter absence as he had been suspended for two games for jabbing Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick with his stick. Despite the return of Ekblad and Tkachuk, the Panthers lost, 4-2, at home Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers. Despite missing those two games, Tkachuk still leads the Panthers in points (17) and assists (12). |
|||||||
11-13-22 | Jets +121 v. Seattle Kraken | Top | 3-2 | Win | 121 | 11 h 46 m | Show |
It's often said that even an average NHL goaltender can make a save when he sees the puck. But what about when a goalie happens to be a former Vezina Trophy winner, a three-time Stanley Cup champion and a likely first-ballot Hall of Famer? Well, good luck to the opposition. The Seattle Kraken learned that Friday night in a 1-0 defeat to Marc-Andre Fleury and the Minnesota Wild in which the Kraken's five-game winning streak was snapped. The Kraken will look to return to their winning ways when they host the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night. Seattle also will try to get more traffic in front of the Jets' net after failing to do so Friday against the Wild. |
|||||||
11-11-22 | Lightning v. Capitals UNDER 6 | Top | 1-5 | Push | 0 | 9 h 55 m | Show |
Washington will be looking to rebound from Wednesday night's 4-1 home loss against Metropolitan Division foe Pittsburgh. The Penguins tallied three times in the second period en route to snapping their seven-game winless streak (0-6-1). With two games coming up against the fast-breaking Lightning, Capitals coach Peter Laviolette said the style of play the Penguins presented slowed his team down. |
|||||||
11-10-22 | Blackhawks +1.5 v. Kings | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 17 h 23 m | Show |
The Chicago Blackhawks have not had much success in their past six games, but they did beat the Los Angeles Kings in that span. The Blackhawks will try to turn results around against the Kings once again on Thursday night at Los Angeles. Chicago beat the visiting Kings 2-1 in overtime on Nov. 3, ending a four-game winless streak. Chicago was shut out for the second time this season on Saturday, giving up three power-play goals in a 4-0 loss against the Winnipeg Jets to start the current three-game trip. The loss dropped the Blackhawks to 1-3-2 in their past six games, watering down their impressive 4-2-0 start to the season. The Blackhawks returned to Chicago after the loss to Winnipeg and held a long practice on Tuesday, looking to improve on their offensive zone play. |
|||||||
11-10-22 | Predators v. Avalanche -1.5 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 140 | 16 h 49 m | Show |
Winning a title is hard, but the Colorado Avalanche are starting to learn that repeating is even tougher. A beat-up Colorado team returns home on Thursday night to face the Nashville Predators after sweeping Columbus in the two-game Global Series at Finland last weekend. The organization suffered a loss with the passing of longtime broadcaster and U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Peter McNab, who died Sunday after battling cancer. McNab has been part of the Avalanche broadcast team since the franchise moved to Denver from Quebec in 1995. The team will honor him before Thursday's game. Colorado is home for three games -- its longest home stretch so far this season -- but will be short a couple of big pieces. The team announced that top-six forward Valeri Nichushkin will undergo ankle surgery and miss approximately a month, while defensemen Bowen Byram and Sam Girard are also out, with Byram's status said to be "week-to-week" due to a lower-body injury. |
|||||||
11-10-22 | Coyotes v. Islanders -1.5 | Top | 2-0 | Loss | -105 | 14 h 18 m | Show |
The New York Islanders are aware they probably can't count on overcoming multi-goal deficits for wins every night. It just seems like that this week. The Islanders look to continue their early season surge Thursday night when they host the Arizona Coyotes in Elmont, N.Y. Both teams were off Wednesday after earning road wins Tuesday night. The Islanders came back from another two-goal, third-period deficit to edge the rival New York Rangers 4-3, while the visiting Coyotes never trailed in a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. New York's seventh victory in eight games was particularly notable for the Islanders, who overcame a two-goal, third-period deficit in a second straight win for the first time in franchise history. New York scored twice in the third Monday night before Noah Dobson scored in overtime to cap a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames. |
|||||||
11-10-22 | Oilers +138 v. Hurricanes | Top | 2-7 | Loss | -100 | 14 h 13 m | Show |
The Carolina Hurricanes' recent problems suddenly look trivial compared to those of the Edmonton Oilers. The Hurricanes enter their Thursday home game against the Oilers coming off a shutout loss at the hands of the Florida Panthers on Wednesday and having scored only one goal over the past two games. In their last game, the Oilers saw a teammate sustain an injury that set off alarms around the team and the NHL in general. Now, Edmonton will try to demonstrate a strong mental approach amid a four-game, East Coast trip. Oilers left winger Evander Kane skated off the ice with a wrist injury that required emergency medical attention because of a cut that resulted in considerable loss of blood Tuesday night at Tampa Bay. The injury to Kane, which occurred while he was down and Lightning forward Pat Maroon skated over his wrist, was scary in nature and will result in him missing at least three months of action. |

11-10-22 | Flyers +115 v. Blue Jackets | Top | 2-5 | Loss | -100 | 14 h 9 m | Show |
Two teams that have gotten off to surprising starts this season meet Thursday when the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Philadelphia Flyers. The Blue Jackets have lost nine of their first 12 games after signing star free-agent forward Johnny Gaudreau in the offseason. The move caught the hockey world by surprise and raised expectations. Columbus has struggled out of the gate under second-year head coach Brad Larsen, losing five straight games -- including both contests to the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL Global Series last weekend in Finland. The Blue Jackets were outscored 11-4 in the two losses, including last Saturday's 5-1 setback in which the Avalanche scored three goals in under four minutes of the second period. Columbus was outshot 17-4 in the second period. |

11-10-22 | Rangers v. Red Wings UNDER 6 | Top | 8-2 | Loss | -109 | 14 h 3 m | Show |
The New York Rangers won 52 games last season and were tied for fourth best in the Eastern Conference with 110 points but will be a .500 team through the first month of this season if they lose in regulation on the road against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. New York has dropped three consecutive games, two in regulation and one in overtime to the Red Wings. All those losses came on home ice. The Rangers gave up a two-goal advantage in the third period on Tuesday, as the New York Islanders scored three unanswered goals to claim a 4-3 victory. Head coach Gerard Gallant provided an unusually rosy assessment of the blown lead after his team fell to 6-5-3. |

11-09-22 | Hurricanes +100 v. Panthers | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 13 m | Show |
Matthew Tkachuk, who leads the Florida Panthers in assists (12) and points (17), will serve the second and final game of his NHL suspension on Wednesday night when his squad hosts the Carolina Hurricanes in Sunrise, Fla. While it's never ideal to lose a leading scorer, the Panthers might have found a silver lining. After Tkachuk was penalized and later suspended for a dangerous hick-stick of Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick on Saturday, Panthers coach Paul Maurice went to work on reshaping his lines. On Sunday, Maurice put Sam Reinhart and Anton Lundell together on the second line, and it clicked in a 5-3 win over the host Anaheim Ducks. Reinhart, who had been slumping, had two goals, and Lundell had a pair of assists as the Panthers closed their four-game trip with a 2-2-0 record. |

11-08-22 | Stars -115 v. Jets | Top | 1-5 | Loss | -115 | 8 h 38 m | Show |
The Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets are showing they can hang in there with the top teams in the NHL. Looking for a season-high fourth consecutive victory, the visiting Stars will try to keep the Jets from running their point streak to seven games on Tuesday night. Dallas currently sits atop the Central Division with 17 points, and Winnipeg is two behind. Each club is amid a 6-3-1 stretch and playing with plenty of confidence. Aiming for a third straight road victory, the Stars have outscored their opponents 18-6 in November and gone 6-for-11 on the power play while winning all three games. Jamie Benn recorded a hat trick and Jason Robertson posted a goal with two assists as Dallas won 6-2 at Edmonton on Saturday. "Things are going good, and we want to continue that," said the 33-year-old Benn, who has four goals and four assists in the last three games. Robertson has scored six times during a career-high five-game goal streak, during which he's also recorded 11 of his team-leading 18 points. |

11-07-22 | Oilers -155 v. Capitals | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -155 | 7 h 8 m | Show |
The Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals will be looking to return to their winning ways when they meet on Monday night in Washington, D.C. The Capitals have lost their past four games and surrendered a lead in each contest. Washington gave up three goals in the third period to the visiting Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night and lost 3-2. Washington hasn't scored more than three goals in a game in its last six. "It has kind of been the same story for the last four games," Washington coach Peter Laviolette said. "We have not been scoring a lot of goals, so if you are not scoring a lot of goals, you have got to pay attention to defense." The Oilers will be trying to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season following five straight wins. Edmonton is coming off a 6-2 loss to the visiting Dallas Stars on Saturday night to cap a three-game homestand. |

11-06-22 | Maple Leafs v. Hurricanes -154 | Top | 3-1 | Loss | -154 | 6 h 55 m | Show |
Having the best players playing the best is what Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour looks for from this team. He has seen that development often this season, and that has equated to quite a bit of success. "Our top guys have been playing really well," Brind'Amour said. The Hurricanes will take a four-game winning streak into Sunday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Raleigh, N.C. The Maple Leafs have a three-game points streak, including back-to-back victories. The most recent of those came with a 2-1 decision against visiting Boston on Saturday night, with Auston Matthews scoring both Toronto goals. Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren made his season debut in that game after being out because of a hernia. "It gives us another really good option both 5-on-5 and on the penalty kill," coach Sheldon Keefe said. "He has the ability to play against really good people." The Leafs ended the Bruins' seven-game winning streak, and they'd like to douse another streak on Sunday. |

11-01-22 | Panthers -1.5 v. Coyotes | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -109 | 12 h 19 m | Show |
After rolling up five victories and 11 points in their first nine games of the Paul Maurice era, the Florida Panthers head west for a four-game road trip beginning Tuesday night in Tempe, Ariz., against the Arizona Coyotes. Florida hit the road following a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, firing a franchise-record 58 shots on goal in the process. That came on the heels of a 51-shot effort in a 4-3 loss at Philadelphia on Thursday. The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead against the Senators on goals by Carter Verhaeghe and Aleksander Barkov while outshooting Ottawa an eye-popping 26-4. But Ottawa battled back to tie the game 2-2 early in the second period. Despite finishing with a 58-26 shot advantage, Florida didn't score the game-winner until Brandon Montour one-timed Barkov's pass from the top of the right circle with 3:32 remaining. Matthew Tkachuk sealed the win with an empty netter with 14 seconds left. |

11-01-22 | Seattle Kraken v. Flames OVER 6 | Top | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 23 m | Show |
Jordan Eberle's and Martin Jones' wives both gave birth to baby boys last Friday. The next night, their husbands delivered in their own way. Eberle scored his first goal of the season and Jones made 32 saves to lead the Seattle Kraken to a 3-1 victory against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. The Kraken is scheduled to open a three-game trip at Calgary on Tuesday night. "Obviously, midseason you have a baby there's a lot going through your head, but once you get out there you kind of just zone into it a bit," said Eberle, who has been through this once before. For Jones, it was a first. "It's been a roller coaster," Jones said. "Just tried to wrap my head around playing hockey (Saturday) and sometimes when you're not thinking too many things work out for you." |

10-31-22 | Kings +115 v. Blues | Top | 5-1 | Win | 115 | 6 h 45 m | Show |
The St. Louis Blues will try to snap one of their worst slumps in recent years when they host the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. The Blues have been dealt four consecutive regulation losses for the first time since Craig Berube took over as head coach during the 2018-19 season. Opponents have outscored the Blues 20-7 during the current downturn. Meanwhile, the Kings earned an impressive 4-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at home Saturday in advance of their trip to St. Louis. The Kings have won two of their past three games after a 3-4 start. It leaves the Blues feeling the urgency to clean up their game. "It's unacceptable to play like this," Blues winger Vladimir Tarasenko said, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We have some time before the next game to figure it out. |

10-31-22 | Red Wings v. Sabres UNDER 6.5 | Top | 3-8 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 38 m | Show |
The Buffalo Sabres and Detroit Red Wings have opened the season well despite slow starts from two of the game's rising stars. However, the Sabres' Tage Thompson and Lucas Raymond of the Red Wings both look to build on a much-needed strong performance when the teams meet Monday night in Buffalo. Thompson enjoyed a breakout campaign with 38 goals and 30 assists in 2021-22 but had just a goal and two assists in his first seven contests. He added to his total in 2022-23 by scoring twice in the third period -- and adding an overtime assist -- in Buffalo's 4-3 comeback victory against Chicago on Saturday. It was the Sabres' fifth win in eight games to open this season. "I think it was a matter of time," Thompson said. "If you're getting chances, I think that's all you can ask for. If you're getting chances, I think they're bound to go in." Thompson has just two goals with an assist in seven career games against Detroit, which swept the four-game 2021-22 season series from the Sabres. Three of those contests were decided in overtime. Meanwhile, the Red Wings avoided a third straight defeat with Saturday's 2-1 home win over Minnesota. Raymond scored his first two goals for Detroit after recording just two assists through his first seven contests of the season. It was a welcome relief for Raymond, whose 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists) as a rookie last season ranked third on the team, and led to high expectations for this one. "My focus is playing the right way," Raymond said. "I know that good things will happen." Raymond was a big reason for the Red Wings' success over Buffalo last season, recording two goals and four assists during those four meetings. "He's a key guy for us," Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. "With his minutes, and how he plays, we need quality play out of him." Detroit, which has four wins -- and the same 10 points as Buffalo -- from its first eight games this season, will try to win back-to-back contests for the first time since opening with victories over Montreal and New Jersey. Ville Husso made 30 saves Saturday and is 3-1-1 with a 2.40 goals-against average to begin his Red Wings career. However, Detroit backup Alex Nedeljkovic has allowed 12 goals in his first three contests this season. |

10-30-22 | Jets v. Golden Knights -1.5 | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 56 m | Show |
The Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights will both put three-game winning streaks on the line when they meet late Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas. It will be the second meeting in an 11-day span between the teams. Vegas, jumping out to a 4-0 first-period lead that featured a pair of goals by Jack Eichel, won the first one 5-2 on Oct. 20 in Vegas. The Golden Knights, who lead the Pacific Division with a Western Conference-best 14 points, seem to have bought into a more defensive-oriented system brought in by new head coach Bruce Cassidy. Entering Saturday, Vegas led the NHL with a 1.78 goals-against average and has allowed two goals or fewer in six of its nine games. The Golden Knights also lead the Western Conference with a plus-13 goal differential. And rookie goaltender Logan Thompson, who made 29 saves in a 4-0 victory over Anaheim on Friday, owns two shutouts. "He's been awesome," Vegas forward Reilly Smith said of Thompson. "He's just picking up more and more confidence every game. It's great to see." Thompson sports a 1.69 goals-against to go along with a sparkling .943 save percentage. He credited his teammates for playing a big part in his good start. |

10-29-22 | Hurricanes v. Flyers UNDER 6.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -125 | 6 h 34 m | Show |
Last season, the Philadelphia Flyers were among the worst teams in the NHL. Through seven games this season, the Flyers are surprisingly one of the best. After a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday, the Flyers reveled in their fifth win in seven games. They will look to build on the positive momentum when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. All of this success has come without key injured players Sean Couturier, Ryan Ellis and Cam Atkinson. Goaltender Carter Hart is 5-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Jets v. Kings OVER 6 | Top | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 8 h 55 m | Show |
Los Angeles Kings coach Todd McLellan is beginning to like what he sees from his team. He'll look for more reasons to be optimistic when the Kings host the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. Los Angeles played its best game of the season on Tuesday in a 4-2 win against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning, ending a 10-game losing streak against the three-time defending Eastern Conference champions. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Capitals v. Stars -118 | Top | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 6 h 5 m | Show |
The slumping Nashville Predators will seek their first victory on North American soil this season when they host the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. The Predators are 0-4-1 since Oct. 7-8, when they won back-to-back games against the San Jose Sharks in Prague as part of the NHL's Global Series. They scored just nine goals over the losing streak. "Our focus is continuing to get better," Nashville coach John Hynes said. "As I said, you have to take the situations for what they are. We haven't won here in five games. I think there are different reasons for that." The Predators haven't played since last Saturday, when they lost to the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-1. They have used the scheduling break to regroup ahead of their game against the Blues at Bridgestone Arena. |

10-27-22 | Wild v. Senators OVER 6.5 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -113 | 5 h 45 m | Show |
The red-hot Ottawa Senators will look to complete a perfect homestand when they host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. After losing their first two games (both on the road) of the season, Ottawa is unbeaten on home ice. The Senators are 4-0-0 heading into the final contest of their five-game homestand and have outscored opponents 22-11 during their four-game streak. Much of that damage has come in the third period, as the Senators have done an excellent job of closing out opponents. Over their last four games, the Senators have a 10-1 scoring edge in the final frame. Monday's game with the Dallas Stars was tied 1-1 after two periods, but Ottawa then scored the game's next three goals to pull away for the 4-2 win. |
|||||||
10-25-22 | Golden Knights v. Sharks UNDER 6.5 | Top | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 8 h 5 m | Show |
The Vegas Golden Knights completed a three-game homestand Monday with a 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, setting the stage for a record-setting night on Tuesday. When Vegas forward Phil Kessel takes ice against the host San Jose Sharks, he will became the NHL's all-time ironman. The 35-year-old veteran is set to break Keith Yandle's ironman record by skating in his 990th consecutive game when the two Pacific Division clubs play the first of four meetings. Slotting in Monday at right wing on a third line with left winger Michael Amadio and center Brett Howden, Kessel participated in his 989th consecutive game on Monday in a game that seemingly couldn't have been scripted better. After producing just one point, an assist, in his first six games with the Golden Knights, Kessel appeared to score on the first power play at 3:16 when he finished a two-on-one feed from Nicolas Roy as the Vegas crowd erupted. However, Toronto challenged for offside on William Karlsson, and the goal was denied. Yet 35 seconds after that, Roy tipped in his first tally, with Kessel earning an assist after putting the initial shot on goal. That didn't fit the narrative as well as the overturned marker -- it would have been the Wisconsin native's 400th of his outstanding career -- but the bigger moment was Kessel tying Yandle's milestone. |

10-25-22 | Lightning -134 v. Kings | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -134 | 8 h 53 m | Show |
One of the early challenges for many NHL teams is adjusting to the busy first month of the season while trying to rack up as many points as possible. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings have already experienced challenges with their schedules heading into their Tuesday night matchup in Los Angeles. The Lightning will have played on back-to-back days three times in their first eight games when they face the Kings and then turn around and visit the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. The Kings are coming off five games in eight days on an East Coast trip that started with surprising success before running on fumes toward the end. The Lightning hasn't let their hectic schedule affect them so far. They are coming off a nice weekend, beating the Florida Panthers, 3-2, in overtime on Friday in Sunrise, Fla., and a day later downing the visiting New York Islanders, 5-3. They split their other back-to-back set, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 on Oct. 14, and losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 the following day, both on the road. Tampa Bay wasn't as sharp on Saturday against New York as it was the night before against the Panthers, but Brayden Point, Brandon Hagel, and Nick Paul each contributed a goal and an assist, as goalie Brian Elliott stopped 32 of 35 shots in his second start of the season. |

10-13-22 | Rangers v. Wild UNDER 6 | Top | 7-3 | Loss | -103 | 11 h 31 m | Show |
The New York Rangers take their Broadway show on the road where they will meet the host Minnesota Wild on Thursday in St Paul, Minn. The Rangers got their 2022-23 season started on the right note with a 3-1 victory over the reigning Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday in New York. Mika Zibanejad led the way for the home side as he tallied a pair of goals while firing a whopping nine shots on goal as part of his hefty 23:13 of ice time. Both of Zibanejad’s markers came on special teams, one short-handed and one on the power play. |

10-12-22 | Seattle Kraken v. Ducks -117 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 65 h 10 m | Show |
The Ducks were 15-7 when listed as a money-line favorite last season.Anaheim went 12-3 when it played as a money line favorite with odds of -127 or shorter.

06-04-22 | Avalanche v. Oilers UNDER 7 | Top | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 10 h 41 m | Show |
The under has now cashed 13 of the Avalanche's last 18 games against the Pacific Division, while the under is 18-7-2 when the Oilers play teams with a win percentage above .600. |
|||||||
05-26-22 | Oilers +1.5 v. Flames | Top | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 2 h 49 m | Show |
This is simple. The oddsmakers have overvalued the Calgary Flames for most of the series with this game being no exception. The Oilers are the better team and I'm more than happy to take the insurance with a team that has been better. |
