07-06-23 | Cardinals +111 v. Marlins | 3-0 | Win | 111 | 8 h 48 m | Show
The Miami Marlins won't lean on experience when they try for a four-game sweep of the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night. Instead, rookie right-hander Eury Perez (5-2, 2.47 ERA) will get the start for Miami. Just 20 years old, Perez is having an amazing season. At 6-foot-8, he has shown stellar body control, repeating his delivery with ease while flashing a 98 mph fastball. However, Perez -- who has yet to face the Cardinals -- is coming off the worst start of his brief major league career. He lasted just one-third of an inning on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves, when he gave up six runs on seven hits in a 7-0 loss. |
|||||||
07-06-23 | Cubs +100 v. Brewers | Top | 5-6 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 10 m | Show |
Marcus Stroman has not pitched like an All-Star of late for the Chicago Cubs. However, since the start of last season, he's been stellar against the Milwaukee Brewers. Looking to avoid a third straight losing start, Stroman can help the visiting Cubs record their third consecutive victory and claim this four-game set from the Brewers on Thursday. From May 19-June 20, Stroman (9-6, 2.76 ERA) allowed seven earned runs and 27 hits over 48 2/3 innings to win seven straight starts. Since then, though, the right-hander has yielded eight earned runs and 13 hits over nine innings in losing two in a row. He gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings of Saturday's 6-0 loss to Cleveland. Scheduled Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta (5-7, 4.67) is 0-4 with a 5.45 ERA in seven starts since winning at Tampa Bay on May 21. The right-hander was serviceable on Friday at Pittsburgh, allowing three runs, three hits and two walks while striking out eight in 5 1/3 innings as the Brewers blew a late lead in the 8-7 defeat. |
|||||||
07-06-23 | A's +156 v. Tigers | Top | 0-9 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 23 m | Show |
Rookie left-hander Hogan Harris (2-2, 5.17 ERA) will start the series finale for the A's. He went 0-2 with a 5.63 ERA in his past three starts after posting back-to-back victories. Harris gave up five runs (four earned) and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings against the New York Yankees on June 29. He yielded just two runs in the first five innings, but New York erupted for eight runs in the sixth. He will be opposed by right-hander Michael Lorenzen (2-6, 4.28 ERA), who was surprisingly chosen as Detroit's All-Star representative. |
|||||||
07-05-23 | Reds -115 v. Nationals | Top | 9-2 | Win | 100 | 8 h 55 m | Show |
Josiah Gray (6-6, 3.30 ERA), who was named to the National League All-Star team on Sunday, starts for the Nationals, who have dropped the first two games of their four-game set against the Reds. Right-hander Graham Ashcraft (3-6, 6.66 ERA) will start for the Reds. After going 0-3 with a 16.03 ERA in his first three June starts, he rebounded in his latest outing, allowing one run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings of a no-decision against the San Diego Padres on Friday. He walked two and struck out seven. |
|||||||
07-04-23 | Cardinals +170 v. Marlins | Top | 2-15 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 14 m | Show |
Wainwright (3-3, 7.45 ERA) allowed 13 runs on 17 hits over just 4 2/3 innings in his last two efforts while remaining stuck on 198 career victories. In his most recent start, Wainwright allowed six runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings in the 14-0 loss to the Houston Astros. He walked three and struck out one. Wainwright is 8-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 16 career appearances (14 starts) against the Marlins. |
|||||||
07-02-23 | Astros v. Rangers -135 | 5-3 | Loss | -135 | 4 h 53 m | Show
Left-hander Andrew Heaney (5-5, 4.38 ERA) will start for the Rangers. He's coming off a 7-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Monday, in which he gave up six runs on six hits -- including two home runs -- and walked three while striking out five in 5 2/3 innings. That is what awaits Houston right-hander Shawn Dubin (0-0, 10.80 ERA), who will make his first major league start. He is subbing for Framber Valdez, who will miss his scheduled start due to right ankle soreness. Dubin, a 27-year-old rookie, has made two relief appearances on the season, giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings. He has never faced the Rangers. The veteran Heaney is 3-4 with a 3.27 ERA in 12 career starts against the Astros. He will look to rebound from a subpar June, in which he was 1-2 with a 5.87 ERA in five starts. |
|||||||
07-02-23 | Twins -111 v. Orioles | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -111 | 1 h 27 m | Show |
Twins right-hander Sonny Gray (4-2, 2.67 ERA) looks to continue the stinginess evidenced by Minnesota starters in the series thus far. Pablo Lopez and Bailey Ober combined to limit the Orioles to one run and five hits over 13 innings in the first two games. The Orioles have lost four straight and 16 of their last 31 and will try to avoid being swept for the first time this season on Sunday. |
|||||||
06-30-23 | Astros +154 v. Rangers | 5-3 | Win | 154 | 9 h 57 m | Show
The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros will open a highly anticipated American League West showdown on Friday night in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers pushed back veteran right-hander Jon Gray to be available for the opener of the four-game series. The Astros are expected to start right-hander Ronel Blanco. Gray (6-3, 2.89 ERA) will make his 15th start of the season and is coming off a tough-luck loss to the New York Yankees on Saturday. He allowed one run on three hits over five innings as the Rangers fell 1-0. In his career vs. the Astros, Gray is 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA over five starts. He faced them earlier this season on April 15 in Houston, exiting in the third inning after taking a line drive off his right elbow. For the Astros, Blanco (1-0, 4.63 ERA) will make his fifth start since moving into the rotation on June 1. In his latest outing, a no-decision against the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, he allowed three runs on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts over six innings. Blanco started the season in a relief role and made two appearances against the Rangers during a series in mid-April. He gave up one run on two hits in a one-inning outing on April 14, then yielded three unearned runs over two innings on April 16. |
|||||||
06-30-23 | Brewers v. Pirates +124 | Top | 7-8 | Win | 124 | 8 h 54 m | Show |
In the series opener on Friday, Milwaukee's Freddy Peralta (5-7, 4.65 ERA) is scheduled to start against Pittsburgh's Osvaldo Bido (0-1, 3.45) in a matchup of right-handers. Peralta is coming off a loss at Cleveland on Saturday in which he allowed three runs and four hits in five-plus innings. He continually worked through jams -- including getting out of a bases-loaded, no-out situation with just one run in the fourth. Bido, another Pittsburgh rookie, will make his fourth career start, his first against the Brewers. He received zero runs of support while in the game in his past two outings. Most recently, he allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings during a no-decision Saturday at Miami. Bido allowed nine hits and no walks while fanning five. |
|||||||
06-30-23 | Padres v. Reds +121 | Top | 5-7 | Win | 121 | 6 h 7 m | Show |
The Reds will send right-hander Graham Ashcraft (3-6, 7.17 ERA) to the mound on Friday. He will be making his second start back from a bruised left calf sustained on June 8 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers, his 15th overall this season. Ashcraft faced the Padres for the first time in his career last month, when he gave up one run in six innings during Cincinnati's 2-1 win on May 2. San Diego will counter with right-hander Seth Lugo (3-4, 4.01 ERA), making his 11th start. Lugo is filling in for righty Yu Darvish, who was scratched on Tuesday due to an illness. Manager Bob Melvin rescheduled Darvish for Friday, but Darvish had not improved enough to make the start. Lugo is 2-1 with a 1.16 ERA in 15 games (two starts) against Cincinnati. He beat the Reds on May 3, when he tossed six innings of one-run ball. |
|||||||
06-29-23 | Brewers v. Mets -180 | 3-2 | Loss | -180 | 9 h 39 m | Show
Max Scherzer (7-2, 3.95 ERA) is slated to start for the Mets against Adrian Houser (2-2, 4.02) in a battle of right-handers. Scherzer earned a win on Saturday when he allowed two runs over six innings as the Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2. He is 3-4 with a 2.63 ERA in 12 career games (11 starts) against the Brewers. Scherzer lost at Milwaukee on April 4, when he yielded five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. |
|||||||
06-28-23 | Brewers v. Mets -136 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -136 | 8 h 39 m | Show |
Right-hander Kodai Senga (6-5, 3.52 ERA) is scheduled to start for New York against left-hander Wade Miley (5-2, 2.91). Senga took the loss on Friday, when he gave up four runs (two earned) over 5 1/3 innings as the Mets fell 5-1 at Philadelphia. The 30-year-old rookie has never faced the Brewers. Miley earned a win on Friday after allowing three hits over six scoreless innings in the Brewers' 7-1 victory over at Cleveland. He is 2-1 with a 3.19 ERA in seven career starts against the Mets. Miley held New York scoreless for six innings on April 4 in Milwaukee, and he got a victory in his first start of the season the Brewers as prevailed 9-0 |
|||||||
06-28-23 | Giants v. Blue Jays +100 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 8 h 40 m | Show
The Giants are scheduled to start right-hander Logan Webb (7-6, 3.16 ERA) who will be facing the Blue Jays for the first time in his career. Toronto had not named a starter as of late Tuesday night. If I had to guess, Trevor Richards will likely get the start for Toronto. |
|||||||
06-27-23 | Yankees -129 v. A's | 1-2 | Loss | -129 | 10 h 58 m | Show
The Oakland homestand begins with Paul Blackburn (0-0, 4.21) on the mound, facing the Yankees' Jhony Brito (4-3, 4.89) in a duel of right-handers. Blackburn has pitched well in both home starts this season, limiting the Atlanta Braves and Rays to a total of three earned runs in 9 2/3 innings. He's 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two career starts against the Yankees. New York has won each of Brito's last four starts, including an 11-3 home romp over the A's on May 10, when he allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings. It was the rookie's first start against Oakland. |
|||||||
06-27-23 | Marlins v. Red Sox -120 | Top | 10-1 | Loss | -120 | 7 h 25 m | Show |
The Marlins are one of those strong clubs, entering Monday with the third-best record in the National League. Garrett Whitlock (4-2, 4.50 ERA) will be the first Boston starter to face them in the series. Whitlock, who has never started against Miami, has worked seven innings in back-to-back starts but took a no-decision after allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out six last Wednesday at Minnesota. His past three decisions dating back a month have been wins. In the series opener, the Red Sox will be up against a tough starter in reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara (2-6, 5.08). Alcantara will look to follow up yet another impressive performance by 20-year-old rookie Eury Perez, who struck out nine and extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 21 in Sunday's 2-0 win over Pittsburgh. |
|||||||
06-27-23 | Padres v. Pirates +167 | Top | 4-9 | Win | 167 | 7 h 26 m | Show |
In the series opener, San Diego right-hander Yu Darvish (5-6, 4.84 ERA) and Pittsburgh left-hander Rich Hill (6-7, 4.34) are scheduled to start. Darvish, a five-time All-Star who opened the season with five quality starts in his first seven appearances, has run into a bump. He has lost two straight starts and has given up 10 runs over his past 11 innings. He has one quality start over his past seven outings. Most recently, he allowed four runs in six innings Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants. Hill is coming off tough outing Wednesday, when he gave up five runs (three earned) in 5 2/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs in an 8-3 Pittsburgh loss. Hill is 6-4 with a 3.03 ERA in 13 career starts against the Padres but has not faced them since 2019. |
|||||||
06-25-23 | Angels v. Rockies +135 | 3-4 | Win | 135 | 15 h 49 m | Show
Know that the public will be all over the Angels in this one after handing the Rockies a 25-1 loss, Saturday. This number seems to be an obvious trap. |
|||||||
06-25-23 | Rangers v. Yankees -110 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 13 h 48 m | Show |
Gerrit Cole improved to 8-1, allowing one run on four hits and one walk in 7.1 innings, as the New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-1 on Tuesday. Cole struck out eight, ending the game with a 2.64 ERA and 1.08 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
06-24-23 | Astros v. Dodgers -168 | 7-8 | Win | 100 | 10 h 52 m | Show
After facing adversity for the first time in his young major league career, Los Angeles Dodgers rookie right-hander Bobby Miller will take the mound again Saturday at home against the Houston Astros. Miller gave up just two runs over the first four starts of his career (23 innings) but was roughed up for seven runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the San Francisco Giants last Saturday. With an extended rest, Miller (3-1, 2.83 ERA) now will face the Astros for the first time in his career. The Astros will send their own rookie to the mound Saturday in right-hander Ronel Blanco (1-0, 4.66 ERA). It will be the second consecutive game in which both teams will use rookie starters after Sheehan was opposite Astros right-hander J.P. France on Friday. Blanco, who has never faced the Dodgers, enters off a no-decision Sunday at home against the Cincinnati Reds when he gave up five runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts. It was the most runs he has allowed in 19 career appearances (three starts). |
|||||||
06-24-23 | Diamondbacks v. Giants -105 | Top | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 1 m | Show |
Right-hander Merrill Kelly (9-3, 2.90 ERA) will look for a National League-leading 10th win as he attempts to derail a surging Giants club that has won 11 of its last 12 games. San Francisco is expected to go the opener route after taking the opener of the three-game series 8-5 on Friday. Kelly will be making his 17th career start against the Giants, against whom he is 6-4 with a 3.19 ERA. The 34-year-old veteran is unbeaten in his last 10 starts, going 8-0 with a 2.69 ERA in that span. He allowed just three hits in each of his past two outings, against the Philadelphia Phillies on June 14 and the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, striking out a total of 14 in 13 innings. The Giants' probable starter is Ryan Walker (2-0, 1.56 ERA) in an opener role. The right-hander allowed just one run in a total of 2 2/3 innings as the starter in wins over the San Diego Padres on Monday and Wednesday. The starts were the first of Walker's rookie season as he has successfully stepped in for opener specialist John Brebbia, who kicked off five wins in eight starts before going on the injured list last weekend. The Giants are currently using openers to fill voids left by injuries to Alex Cobb and Ross Stripling. |
|||||||
06-22-23 | A's +170 v. Guardians | Top | 1-6 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 53 m | Show |
Logan Allen (3-2, 3.95 ERA) experienced his shortest start of the season, allowing five runs and four hits in three innings during Cleveland's 8-6 win. He struck out two and walked four. Allen was handed a 5-0 lead before he took the mound, but the Padres came back with three runs in the bottom of the first. Oakland plans to send left-hander JP Sears to the mound in the series finale. Sears (1-4, 4.24 ERA) went six straight starts in which he allowed two earned runs or fewer, but that streak ended on Friday when he surrendered four runs and four hits in seven innings during a 6-1 loss to the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. He struck out seven, and for the second consecutive game, did not walk a batter. |
|||||||
06-20-23 | Blue Jays v. Marlins -108 | Top | 2-0 | Loss | -108 | 17 h 2 m | Show |
Eury Perez improved to 4-1, allowing two hits and one walk over 6.0 scoreless innings, as the Miami Marlins defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-1 on Wednesday. Perez struck out six, ending the game with a 1.80 ERA and 1.09 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
06-17-23 | Marlins v. Nationals +155 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 27 m | Show |
Miami left-hander Braxton Garrett (2-2, 4.10 ERA) will oppose right-hander Jake Irvin (1-3, 5.81) in the middle game of the series on Saturday. Garrett is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA over his past six starts, with 41 strikeouts and seven walks in 32 innings. The Marlins have won five of those games. Last time out, Garrett pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings against the Chicago White Sox in a no-decision on Sunday. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out a season-high nine batters. He retired 12 of the first 14 batters he faced. |
|||||||
06-17-23 | Blue Jays v. Rangers -120 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 4 h 16 m | Show |
The teams will be back at it on Saturday afternoon in Arlington, Texas, for the middle game of the three-game series. Texas will start right-hander Dane Dunning (5-1, 2.76 ERA), while Toronto's pitching plans remained uncertain. For the Rangers, it's about getting the offense back to producing at the level it showed early on this season. Texas manager Bruce Bochy said he doesn't feel his team is pressing with runners in scoring position, describing the club's struggles more as a rough patch. |
|||||||
06-16-23 | Giants v. Dodgers -145 | Top | 7-5 | Loss | -145 | 20 h 4 m | Show |
06-16-23 | Orioles -115 v. Cubs | Top | 3-10 | Loss | -115 | 12 h 20 m | Show |
Cole Irvin improved to 1-2, allowing one run on six hits in 5.1 innings, as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-1 on Saturday. Irvin struck out five, ending the game with a 7.85 ERA and 1.75 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
06-14-23 | Giants +134 v. Cardinals | Top | 8-5 | Win | 134 | 9 h 20 m | Show |
Jordan Montgomery improved to 3-7, allowing three hits and one walk over 6.0 scoreless innings, as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 on Friday. Montgomery struck out six, ending the game with a 3.88 ERA and 1.33 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
06-13-23 | Blue Jays -127 v. Orioles | Top | 6-11 | Loss | -127 | 18 h 8 m | Show |
The Orioles have not named a starter for Tuesday, while the Blue Jays will go with right-hander Chris Bassitt (7-4, 3.29 ERA). Bassitt has followed up one of his worst starts of the season with a pair of strong performances. On May 27, he was blitzed by the Minnesota Twins for seven runs and nine hits over four innings of a loss. He has given up just two earned runs over 15 2/3 inning in his past two starts. Last time out, he went eight innings to beat the Astros on Wednesday, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out five without a walk. |
|||||||
06-12-23 | Reds v. Royals -107 | 5-4 | Loss | -107 | 6 h 10 m | Show
Kansas City will send right-hander Zack Greinke (1-6, 4.59 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. He is seeking his first victory since May 3, and in his last start, he gave up five runs over 4 1/3 innings in a 6-1 loss to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Greinke, 39, has provided a strong veteran presence in the young Royals' clubhouse. He has gone 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA in six home starts this season. Cincinnati will counter with right-hander Luke Weaver (1-2, 6.27), who escaped with a no-decision on Tuesday after allowing a season-high seven runs over 3 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Weaver, 29, is looking to snap a five-game winless streak. He has given up a total of 15 runs with a 25-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 25 1/3 innings in that stretch. Weaver is facing his former team after posting a 5.59 ERA in 14 relief appearances with Kansas City last season. |
|||||||
06-11-23 | Red Sox v. Yankees -114 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -114 | 15 h 9 m | Show |
Brayan Bello fell to 3-4, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk in 6.0 innings, as the Boston Red Sox lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Monday. Bello struck out five, ending the game with a 3.97 ERA and 1.43 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
06-10-23 | Astros v. Guardians -134 | 6-4 | Loss | -134 | 7 h 9 m | Show
Houston will send right-hander J.P. France (1-1, 3.44 ERA) to the mound on Saturday. The 28-year-old rookie received a no-decision after allowing three hits over seven innings of one-run ball against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. He had a no-hitter for the first 5 1/3 innings of that contest. France has settled into the Houston rotation with a 29-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his first six career starts covering 34 innings. He will be facing the Guardians for the first time. Cleveland will counter with right-hander Triston McKenzie (0-0, 0.00), who is hoping to build on a successful season debut. He returned after being out with a teres major muscle strain and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 10 over five scoreless innings against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. |
|||||||
06-10-23 | Reds v. Cardinals -163 | Top | 8-4 | Loss | -163 | 3 h 20 m | Show |
After appreciating his excellent big-league debut, the Cincinnati Reds will see what rookie pitcher Andrew Abbott can do for an encore. Abbott (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will face the host Cardinals on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game series. He threw six scoreless innings on one hit and four walks during a 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. St. Louis will start Miles Mikolas (4-2, 3.74 ERA), who has allowed three runs or fewer in 10 straight starts and two earned runs or fewer in seven of them. Mikolas took a 2-1 loss at Pittsburgh in his last start. He allowed the two runs on 10 hits in five innings but fell victim to his team's recent power outage. |
|||||||
06-09-23 | Royals v. Orioles -171 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 59 m | Show |
The Orioles will send right-hander Tyler Wells (4-2, 3.29 ERA) to the mound on Friday. Wells has logged at least five innings in all 12 starts this season. He had a career-high nine strikeouts on Sunday in a victory at San Francisco, when he gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Wells has faced the Royals six times and is 3-0 with a 3.54 ERA in those games. He has more wins against Kansas City than against any other team. Left-hander Daniel Lynch (0-1, 4.35 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Royals. Lynch, who will be in his third game of the season after coming off the injured list, has worked at least five innings in both of his starts. In his latest outing, he gave up five runs (three earned) in the first inning against Colorado on Saturday, but they he blanked the Rockies over the next four innings. |
|||||||
06-07-23 | Royals v. Marlins -170 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 13 h 15 m | Show
On Wednesday, the Marlins will start right-hander Edward Cabrera (4-4, 4.50 ERA). Cabrera, 25, has never faced the Royals. The Marlins are 7-5 when starting Cabrera this season, including two straight wins. He is 4-0 with a 2.77 ERA in five home starts this year, but in seven road starts, he is 0-4 with a 5.91 ERA. The Marlins, who are 12-2 against American League foes this year, fortified their bullpen on Tuesday when they brought reliever A.J. Puk back from the injured list. The left-hander, who had been sidelined due to left elbow nerve irritation, is 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA and six saves. The Royals, meanwhile, are set to start Jordan Lyles on Wednesday. It has been an epic struggle this year for the right-hander, who is 0-9 with a 6.89 ERA. The Royals are 0-12 when starting Lyles. However, he offered a hopeful sign in his most recent start, going five innings and allowing just two hits, one walk and one run on Friday against the Colorado Rockies. Lyles struck out eight. |
|||||||
06-06-23 | Mariners v. Padres -130 | 4-1 | Loss | -130 | 9 h 17 m | Show
The Tuesday night series opener will match a pair of right-handers: Seattle's Logan Gilbert (3-3, 4.08 ERA) and San Diego's Joe Musgrove (3-2, 4.71). Gilbert is coming off his worst start of the year. On May 30 in Seattle, the 26-year-old gave up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits (including two homers) in just four innings against the New York Yankees. |
|||||||
06-06-23 | Royals +152 v. Marlins | Top | 1-6 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 23 m | Show |
Left-hander Jesus Luzardo (4-4, 4.05 ERA) will attempt to make sure that the Marlins don't end up playing down to their competition when he makes his 13th start of the season on Tuesday. In his most recent outing, Luzardo took a loss after allowing five runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings against the San Diego Padres on Thursday. He walked one and fanned eight. Luzardo has made two career appearances against Kansas City, both in relief, and he surrendered five runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. The task of slowing Arraez on Tuesday will fall to Kansas City starter Zack Greinke (1-5, 4.19 ERA). The veteran right-hander has not won a game since May 3, when he beat the Baltimore Orioles with five shutout innings. The Royals are 3-9 this season when Greinke starts, and they have lost the past four times he took the mound. Although Greinke only has one quality start in 12 outings this season, he has a strong track record against the Marlins, going 7-0 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 career appearances (12 starts) against Miami. If Greinke wants to continue his dominance of the Marlins, he will have to lean on a young Kansas City offense that was averaging three runs per game in its past seven contests before putting up six in the opener at Miami. |
|||||||
06-05-23 | Cubs +159 v. Padres | 0-5 | Loss | -100 | 22 h 50 m | Show
Blake Snell allowed three hits and three walks without giving up a run in 6.0 innings as the San Diego Padres lost to the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Wednesday. Snell struck out seven, ending the game with a 4.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP on the season. That was his best this year but we have to see more before backing him consistently again. |

06-04-23 | Cubs v. Padres -106 | 7-1 | Loss | -106 | 6 h 48 m | Show
But Melvin knows getting offense every other game is not a winning formula. Which makes Sunday so important as the Padres face Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman (5-4, 2.59 ERA). The Padres will counter with left-hander Ryan Weathers (1-3, 4.28). Stroman, however, is not exactly who the Padres want to face in hopes of getting on an offensive roll. In fact, the 32-year-old has become one of the toughest pitchers in the majors. He not only leads the league with 12 starts, his 0.986 WHIP also ranks No. 1 and opposing batters are hitting .188 against him. In his most recent start, against Tampa Bay on Monday, Stroman shut out the Rays on one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts in a complete game. |

06-04-23 | Blue Jays +127 v. Mets | 6-4 | Win | 127 | 2 h 54 m | Show
The ghost forkball is a pitch used by Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (5-3, 3.44 ERA), who will get the start on Sunday. The pitch has accounted for 39 of the 70 strikeouts Senga has in 10 starts this season, according to information provided by the Mets. Senga, who has yet to face the Blue Jays, will oppose left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (6-2, 4.47) on Sunday. Kikuchi has yet to pitch against the Mets in his career. The start on Sunday will be the first for Senga on four days of rest. So far this season he has pitched once a week, which was his routine in his native Japan. Other than his first start this season, Senga has pitched on five days' rest seven times, with six days' rest and eight days' rest one time each. |

06-03-23 | Orioles +119 v. Giants | Top | 0-4 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 53 m | Show |
Alex Cobb will seek to continue to torment the Baltimore Orioles -- both as an employee and now as an opponent -- when he gets the ball Saturday night for the host San Francisco Giants in the second game of the clubs' three-game interleague series. Cobb (4-2, 3.05 ERA) will try to get the Giants even in the series when makes his 14th career start against Baltimore, sandwiching a three-year stint in which he started 41 games as a member of the Orioles. Coincidentally, his opposing pitcher Saturday -- Orioles righty Kyle Bradish (2-1, 3.89) -- had a similar experience when he pitched against the team that drafted him on May 17. He responded with an impressive effort at home against the Angels, allowing just one run in 6 2/3 innings of a 3-1 win. |
|||||||
06-03-23 | Yankees v. Dodgers +101 | 6-3 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 7 m | Show
In the midst of an impressive start to the season, New York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole has not been at his best of late. He hopes to reverse that trend on Saturday in Los Angeles against the heavy-hitting Dodgers. Cole (6-0, 2.93 ERA) has not lost a game this season in 12 starts, but his ERA has gained nearly a full point over his past two outings when he gave up five earned runs against both the Baltimore Orioles and the San Diego Padres. However, Cole received 16 runs of support from his offense in those two appearances as New York won both games. He has served up eight home runs in his past five starts after not giving up any over his first seven outings. Rookie Michael Grove is expected to return from the injured list to start for the Dodgers on Saturday. Grove (0-1, 8.44 ERA) has been out since April 21 with a strained right groin. The 26-year-old right-hander has made four starts this year, including only one real clunker, when he gave up nine runs on 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 9. It will be just the 11th career start for Grove and first against the Yankees. Grove's outing comes a day after his teammate, Clayton Kershaw, matched a season high with nine strikeouts while earning the win. Grove will face a Yankees lineup that received an influx of talent Friday when Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton came off the injured list following hamstring issues. They had combined for just 18 games earlier this season. |

06-02-23 | Cubs v. Padres -152 | 2-1 | Loss | -152 | 10 h 19 m | Show
However, Friday night's pitching matchup -- San Diego's Michael Wacha (5-1, 3.45 ERA) vs. Chicago's Jameson Taillon (0-3, 8.04) -- favors the Padres if the May results carry over into the first June outing for the 31-year-old right-handers. Wacha was 3-0 in five May starts with an 0.84 ERA and an 0.72 WHIP in 32 innings. The Padres were 3-2 in Wacha's May starts (scoring a total of three runs in the two losses) and are 7-3 overall when he has started in 2023. Taillon was 0-1 in five May starts with a 10.90 ERA and a 1.96 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings. The Cubs were 0-5 in Taillon's May starts and are 0-8 when he starts a game this season. However, the Cubs are no strangers to Wacha, who spent his first seven seasons with the rival St. Louis Cardinals. Wacha has a 4-8 career record against the Cubs with a 6.45 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP in 21 games (19 starts). Wacha started the game the Padres won in Chicago on April 26, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings. Taillon, who did not face the Padres earlier this season, has a 1-0 career record against the Padres with a 2.37 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in three career starts. However, he has not faced the Padres since 2018. |
|||||||
06-01-23 | Angels v. Astros -178 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 3 m | Show
Reid Detmers (0-4, 4.93 ERA) will start the series opener for the Angels. He took a loss in his most recent outing after allowing three runs on 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five-plus innings in a 6-2 setback to the Miami Marlins on Friday. The 23-year-old left-hander has allowed three earned runs or less in seven of his nine starts and has yielded two earned runs four times. Detmers is 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in four career starts against the Astros, having struck out 21 in 20 1/3 innings. In three starts against Houston last season, he finished 0-1 with a 5.02 ERA. While the Astros did not announce a starter for the series opener, Framber Valdez (5-4, 2.38 ERA) would be working on regular rest. He earned a 6-3 win against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday after allowing one run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts over six innings. Valdez has surrendered one run or no runs in three of his past four starts, all victories. The 29-year-old left-hander is 8-4 with a 3.73 ERA over 16 career appearances (12 starts) against the Angels. He faced them on May 9, when he allowed one run on three hits and no walks while recording a season-high 12 strikeouts over eight innings in a 3-1 road victory. |
|||||||
05-30-23 | Guardians +135 v. Orioles | Top | 5-8 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 39 m | Show |
Cleveland right-hander Cal Quantrill (2-3, 4.75 ERA) will try to keep the Orioles out of sorts. Quantrill is coming off his second-shortest outing of the season, a four-inning stint last Wednesday in a 6-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox when he allowed all six runs. Quantrill is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in four career outings (three starts) against the Orioles. The Guardians have been riding strong defense recently, highlighted by third baseman Gabriel Arias, who has stayed in the lineup despite a .193 batting average. Baltimore will go with right-hander Kyle Gibson (6-3, 3.82 ERA) on Tuesday. He's coming off two sterling performances, including seven shutout innings in Thursday's 3-1 road victory against the New York Yankees. This will mark just the third home outing in a stretch of seven starts for Gibson. He's 3-10 with a 5.59 ERA against Cleveland in 21 all-time appearances (20 starts). The Guardians have won three of their last four games. They'll be aiming for their fourth victory in five games, something they haven't accomplished since the first week of the season. On the road, though, the Guardians were 1-7 in their last eight games before Monday's win. |

05-29-23 | Royals v. Cardinals -172 | Top | 7-0 | Loss | -172 | 1 h 17 m | Show |
The Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright (2-0, 6.33 ERA) to the mound in the opener of the two-game series against Kansas City. The Royals will start Josh Staumont (0-0, 4.76) in what figures to be a bullpen game. |
|||||||
05-28-23 | Giants v. Brewers +120 | 5-7 | Win | 120 | 12 h 48 m | Show
Colin Rea improved to 1-3, allowing four hits and two walks over 5.1 scoreless innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Houston Astros 6-0 on Tuesday. Rea struck out four, ending the game with a 4.71 ERA and 1.27 WHIP on the season. We're going to ride with Rea and the plus money. |
|||||||
05-28-23 | Rangers v. Orioles -145 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 9 m | Show |
Kyle Bradish allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks in 5.0 innings as the Baltimore Orioles lost to the New York Yankees 6-5 on Tuesday. Bradish struck out three, ending the game with a 4.34 ERA and 1.39 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
05-27-23 | White Sox +106 v. Tigers | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 34 m | Show |
Lorenzen (2-2, 4.08 ERA) gave up three home runs in his latest start. The right-hander allowed five runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings to the Kansas City Royals on Monday and wound up with a no-decision as the Tigers won in extra innings. In his three previous outings, Lorenzen gave up a total of two runs in 20 innings. Jesse Scholtens (0-2, 2.25) is slated to make his first major league start for the White Sox. Scholtens pitched five innings of long relief on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians, taking a loss after allowing one run and two hits. He made seven starts for Triple-A Charlotte this season, going 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA. Scholtens made 160 minor league appearances (111 starts) prior to his promotion. He pitched two games in relief for Chicago in April, then returned to the majors ahead of the Monday outing. |
|||||||
05-26-23 | Rangers v. Orioles -128 | Top | 12-2 | Loss | -128 | 7 h 27 m | Show |
The Orioles will give the ball on Friday to rookie Grayson Rodriguez (2-1, 6.21 ERA), who is coming off a solid outing in his latest start. The right-hander gave up two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and a walk in five innings during a no-decision at Toronto on Saturday. Rodriguez, who hasn't lasted more than 5 2/3 innings in an outing, made his major league debut against the Rangers on April 5. He wasn't involved in the decision after yielding two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Texas right-hander Jon Gray (4-1, 3.02), who will start Friday, pitched well against the Orioles the last time he faced them. Gray picked up the loss despite allowing just two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in 6 1/3 innings during a 2-0 setback on April 3. In three career starts vs. Baltimore, Gray is 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA. Gray was sharp on Saturday, allowing just a run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings of an 11-5 win over the visiting Colorado Rockies. |
|||||||
05-26-23 | Dodgers v. Rays -110 | Top | 3-9 | Win | 100 | 7 h 9 m | Show |
Left-hander Jalen Beeks (1-2, 4.68 ERA) will look to make sure Tampa Bay continues its home dominance when he serves as Friday's opener. Beeks last pitched on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed one run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings. In his lone appearance against the Dodgers, Beeks worked 4 2/3 innings of relief back on May 21, 2019, allowing five runs on eight hits. He walked two and fanned four. Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (1-3, 5.88) will oppose Beeks in search of his first win since April 30. Syndergaard most recently took a no-decision against the St. Louis Cardinals last Saturday after giving up three runs on four hits in five innings. He issued one walk, hit a batter and tallied four strikeouts. In two career starts versus the Rays, Syndergaard is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA. |
|||||||
05-25-23 | Mets v. Cubs -120 | 10-1 | Loss | -120 | 17 h 40 m | Show

|||||||
05-25-23 | Padres -170 v. Nationals | 8-6 | Win | 100 | 13 h 10 m | Show
Blake Snell hopes to bounce back from his worst outing of the season when the San Diego Padres visit the Washington Nationals in the rubber match of a three-game series on Thursday. After going 1-3 with a 3.54 ERA over a stretch of five starts, Snell (1-6, 5.40 ERA) gave up six runs on five hits in four innings of a 6-1 home loss to the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Right-hander Jake Irvin (1-2, 5.50 ERA) will makes his fifth major league start for the Nationals. The 26-year-old tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants on May 8, but in his past two starts, he allowed a total of 12 runs (10 earned) in 7 1/3 innings. In his most recent outing, Irvin gave up six runs, four earned, on five hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers on Friday. |
|||||||
05-25-23 | Blue Jays v. Rays -140 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 10 h 18 m | Show |
Tampa Bay guaranteed at least a split of its four-game series against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays with a 7-3 win on Wednesday. The set concludes Thursday with Toronto's Alek Manoah (1-4, 5.15 ERA) opposing Tampa Bay's Zach Eflin (6-1, 3.45) in a duel of right-handers. |
|||||||
05-24-23 | Diamondbacks v. Phillies +105 | Top | 5-6 | Win | 105 | 13 h 14 m | Show |
Ranger Suarez fell to 0-1, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in 2.0 innings, as the Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Chicago Cubs 10-1 on Friday. Suarez struck out four, ending the game with a 10.50 ERA and 2.67 WHIP on the season. This looks too easy. We'll take the small plus money. |
|||||||
05-23-23 | Red Sox -107 v. Angels | Top | 0-4 | Loss | -107 | 12 h 43 m | Show |
Right-hander Griffin Canning will make his seventh start of the season Tuesday night when the Los Angeles Angels face the Boston Red Sox in Anaheim, Calif., but he still is working through the process of returning from a long layoff. Canning (2-2, 6.14 ERA) was a starter for the Angels in 2021 but missed half of that season and all of 2022 with a stress fracture in his back. He did not return until this past April. He's pitched at least five innings in five of his six starts this year but has failed to finish six innings. He has struggled in May, giving up 13 earned runs in 14 innings, but Angels manager Phil Nevin said he sees Canning taking steps in the right direction. Right-hander Brayan Bello (3-1, 4.45 ERA) will make his seventh start of the season for Boston. He is 0-1 with a 16.88 ERA in one career start against the Angels. |
|||||||
05-22-23 | Diamondbacks v. Phillies -197 | Top | 6-3 | Loss | -197 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
Inconsistency has been an issue for scheduled Phillies starter Zack Wheeler (3-3, 4.06 ERA). The right-hander has allowed two or fewer earned runs in four of his nine starts, but also yielded four in four other outings, and completed seven innings just once in 2023. On Tuesday at San Francisco, Wheeler allowed two runs each in the third and fourth innings, plus nine hits, while striking out eight, over six innings of a 4-3 loss. "(Wheeler) pitched better than his line, for sure," Phillies manager Ron Thomson said. Wheeler has been solid while going 5-2 with a 2.95 ERA in nine starts versus Arizona. He yielded just two hits and fanned eight without a walk during a 4-0 home victory over the Diamondbacks last season. Arizona's Christian Walker is 6-for-11 with a homer against Wheeler. The first baseman had two hits with three RBIs during Sunday's 8-3 win at Pittsburgh, and has five with six RBIs in his last five games following a 4-for-28 stretch. |
|||||||
05-21-23 | Marlins v. Giants -122 | 5-7 | Win | 100 | 5 h 43 m | Show
Lefty Braxton Garrett handcuffed San Francisco on just one hit over 6 1/3 innings to get the shutout rolling, and now the Marlins hope for more of the same from Luzardo (3-2, 3.16). It wasn't long ago that the former third-round pick was one of the brightest prospects in the Oakland organization before Athletics' management decided to use him to acquire Starling Marte, who was seen as the type of offensive force who could deliver the A's a playoff berth in 2021. Oakland failed in that quest, and in the meantime lost Luzardo, who credits the A's and especially three former teammates for the pitcher he's become. One of the hits was a single by catcher Patrick Bailey, who was making his first major-league start after having made his debut -- three innings, no at-bats -- the night before. He singled in his third plate appearance Saturday. If Bailey gets another go on Sunday, it would come as batterymate for another lefty, Alex Wood (0-0, 2.87). The 32-year-old will be continuing to stretch out after missing almost a month bridging April and May with a hamstring injury. After a relief appearance in his return to action, Wood started a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies last Monday, allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings. He will be making his 17th career start against the Marlins. In 19 career meetings overall, he's gone 8-5 with a 2.58 ERA. The eight wins are his most against any opponent, and the 2.58 ERA is his best against anyone he's faced eight or more times. |
|||||||
05-21-23 | Orioles v. Blue Jays -185 | Top | 8-3 | Loss | -185 | 2 h 10 m | Show |
Right-hander Dean Kremer (5-1, 4.94 ERA) is scheduled to start for Baltimore on Sunday. He is 1-3 with a 5.77 ERA in seven career outings (six starts) against the Blue Jays. Right-hander Kevin Gausman (2-3, 3.27) is slated to start for Toronto. He is 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA in two career starts against his former team. The victory on Saturday could be the highlight of a strong Orioles start to the season. They are 30-16 overall and have won seven of their past 10 games. |
|||||||
05-21-23 | Diamondbacks -120 v. Pirates | Top | 8-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 18 m | Show |
In the series finale, Arizona right-hander Merrill Kelly (4-3, 2.92 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Roansy Contreras (3-4, 4.40). Kelly is 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in his past four starts. In last Monday's outing against Oakland, Kelly did something he had never done before -- got ejected. Kelly got tossed shortly after being lifted in the eighth inning following an ejection of Arizona manager Torey Lovullo. Both were arguing about a check swing that was called a strike. |
|||||||
05-20-23 | Mariners +135 v. Braves | 7-3 | Win | 135 | 8 h 20 m | Show
Marcell Ozuna will try to continue his offensive resurgence on Saturday when the Atlanta Braves host the visiting Seattle Mariners in the second contest of their three-game series. Ozuna caught the ire of the Atlanta fans with his slow start; he was hitting .073 on April 24. But he's back in their good graces after going 2-for-4 with three RBIs to help the Braves record a 6-2 win in the series opener on Friday. Ozuna has lifted his average to .189 with eight homers and 17 RBIs. He is batting .333 during his six-game hitting streak and .319 this month. "He's had some good at-bats and he's making good decisions," Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. "You have to weather those storms. I like him up there right now." Ozuna will look to stay hot on Saturday against Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (1-2, 3.91 ERA). Atlanta, in turn, will use a bullpen game with right-hander Jesse Chavez (0-0, 2.50) acting as the opener. Gilbert will be making his ninth start of the season and is seeking his first win since April 12. In his most recent start on Sunday at Detroit, he pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts. He has not allowed a homer in his past three starts. He took a no-decision in the 5-3 loss to the Tigers. |
|||||||
05-19-23 | Cubs v. Phillies -117 | Top | 10-1 | Loss | -117 | 10 h 39 m | Show |
Scheduled Cubs starter Marcus Stroman (2-4, 3.24 ERA) was 2-1 with an 0.75 ERA in his first four starts, but 0-3 with a 5.54 ERA in the last five. The right-hander yielded season-highs of six runs and seven hits in just 2 2/3 innings of Sunday's 16-3 loss to the Twins. Philadelphia's Ranger Suarez (0-0, 6.75 ERA) is slated to make his second 2023 start after returning from a strained left elbow to allow three runs, seven hits, and strike out four in four innings of Saturday's 7-4 win at Colorado. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts against the Cubs. |
|||||||
05-18-23 | Dodgers v. Cardinals +145 | 8-16 | Win | 145 | 10 h 53 m | Show
Los Angeles will start Julio Urias (5-3, 3.61 ERA) in the series opener. He is 2-0 with 17 strikeouts, just two walks and a 2.29 ERA in three May starts. Urias earned a 4-2 victory over San Diego on Saturday in his latest start, holding the Padres to three hits and two runs in seven innings. Of the 22 runs he has allowed this season, opponents scored nine in the first inning (9.72 ERA). Against the Padres, he allowed Juan Soto's opening-inning solo homer, then settled in. Wainwright (0-0, 7.20) will face the Dodgers on Thursday in his third start of the season after recovering from a groin muscle strain sustained while training with Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. He has allowed four runs while lasting five innings in each of his starts after coming off of the injured list. The Cardinals won his last outing 8-6 in Boston on Friday. Wainwright is 7-6 with a 2.79 ERA in 19 career appearances against the Dodgers, including 16 starts. |
|||||||
05-18-23 | Guardians v. White Sox -135 | Top | 3-1 | Loss | -135 | 4 h 21 m | Show |
Cleveland will turn to rookie left-hander Logan Allen (1-1, 3.43 ERA) as it tries to salvage the finale. Thursday marks Allen's fifth start since making his major league debut April 23. The 24-year-old has 24 strikeouts in 21 innings. In his most recent start Friday, Allen fanned Los Angeles Angels stars Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout in the same inning. Chicago starter Dylan Cease (2-2, 4.86) tries for his first victory since April 10, a span of six starts. Cease rebounded from a rough outing at Kansas City on May 8 with Saturday's no-decision against Houston, when he scattered four hits, two walks and five strikeouts in six shutout innings. Cease is 4-3 with a 3.74 ERA in nine career starts against Cleveland, with 46 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings. |

05-18-23 | Nationals +140 v. Marlins | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 13 m | Show |
Right-hander Trevor Williams, who is on his fourth team in four years, is set to start for the Washington Nationals against the host Miami Marlins in the series finale on Thursday afternoon. Washington will be looking to avoid a three-game sweep. Williams, a 31-year-old native of San Diego, was Miami's second-round pick in 2013 out of Arizona State. However, the Marlins traded him to the Pirates in 2015. He made his MLB debut with the Pirates one year later. In nine career appearances against the Marlins, including four starts, Williams is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA. Last year, lefty batters hit .319 against Williams. Righty hitters hit just .209 against him. This year, his splits have narrowed -- .242 by right-handed batters and .296 by lefty hitters. Perez (0-0, 3.86 ERA) made his MLB debut last Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds, striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings. A consensus top-10 MLB prospect, Perez left with a no-decision after allowing four hits, two walks and two runs. |

05-17-23 | Yankees -108 v. Blue Jays | 0-3 | Loss | -108 | 9 h 28 m | Show
Thanks to three homers from Aaron Judge, the visiting New York Yankees have won the first two games of a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The set will resume Wednesday night with Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (5-0, 2.22 ERA) due to oppose Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt (5-2, 3.49). Cole is 6-2 with a 3.48 ERA in 13 career starts against Toronto. He faced the Blue Jays on April 22 in New York and fired 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Bassitt has opposed the Yankees just once, getting a no-decision for the Oakland A's on June 19, 2021, after allowing two runs in six innings. |
|||||||
05-17-23 | Twins v. Dodgers -134 | Top | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 6 h 35 m | Show |
After he tore through the American League over his first seven starts, Minnesota right-hander Sonny Gray, MLB's ERA leader, will face a National League team for his second consecutive outing as the Twins square off against the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon. Gray had a 1.35 ERA through seven starts then gave up one run over 5 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts Friday against the Chicago Cubs. Despite holding his opponent in check, Gray finished with a no-decision and his ERA even went up a tick, to 1.39. He has a 4-0 record. After the Twins lost that game 6-2, the concern was all about a sluggish offense. But the bats immediately came alive with 17 runs in the next two games against the Cubs and 13 in the first two games of the current series against the Dodgers. The output was just as Gray predicted. The Dodgers will send right-hander Dustin May to the mound in the finale of a six-game homestand. May (4-1, 2.68) is coming off his second-longest outing of the season when he went 6 2/3 innings against the San Diego Padres on Friday. |
|||||||
05-15-23 | Phillies -102 v. Giants | Top | 3-6 | Loss | -102 | 12 h 59 m | Show |
Philadelphia will hand the ball to left-hander Bailey Falter (0-6, 5.75 ERA) in the series opener. In Falter's last start -- against the Boston Red Sox -- he gave up six hits and five runs in 3 2/3 innings. Falter was perfect through three innings and then faced nine batters in the fourth. Alex Wood (0-0, 2.45) is scheduled to start for the Giants on Monday. Wood is 3-3 with a 3.79 ERA in 15 career appearances (10 starts) against Philadelphia. |
|||||||
05-14-23 | Rays -115 v. Yankees | Top | 8-7 | Win | 100 | 10 h 45 m | Show |
Clarke Schmidt (1-3, 5.35 ERA), who is coming off his first career win as a starting pitcher, goes for the Yankees. Schmidt is 1-6 with a 5.20 ERA in 13 career starts and allowed two runs on five hits in a career-high six innings in Tuesday's 10-5 win over Oakland. Schmidt has lasted at least five innings in three of his last four starts after not doing so in his first four outings. Schmidt is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in six career games (two starts) against the Rays and took the loss in his last start against them by allowing two runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 2-1 setback on Sept. 3, 2022. Zach Elfin (4-1, 2.91), who is coming off his first loss as a Ray, will oppose Schmidt on Sunday. Elfin won his first four decisions before allowing a season-high four runs on seven hits in six innings during a 4-2 loss at Baltimore on Tuesday. Elfin is facing the Yankees for the third time in his career and has yet to allow an earned run in 11 innings. He last faced the Yankees on Aug. 6, 2020, as a member of the Phillies. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits in four innings while taking a no-decision. |

05-14-23 | Pirates +117 v. Orioles | Top | 4-0 | Win | 117 | 10 h 39 m | Show |
The Orioles will look to complete the sweep behind right-hander Kyle Gibson (4-2, 4.40 ERA). Gibson was solid in his last outing, allowing just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six innings in a 3-0 loss to the Rays on Monday. Gibson went 2-0 with a 2.75 ERA in three starts over the previous two seasons against the Pirates as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Pirates will counter with right-hander Mitch Keller (4-1, 2.72), who pitched a four-hit shutout against the Colorado Rockies in Pittsburgh's 2-0 win Monday. He had eight strikeouts against just one walk. Keller's first complete game shutout was the first by a Pirate since Jameson Taillon's in April 2018. But the Pirates haven't won since Keller's masterpiece. Keller has faced the Orioles just once, allowing a run on eight hits in six innings in a 1-0 loss last August. |

05-13-23 | Royals v. Brewers -151 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 43 m | Show |
The visiting Kansas City Royals hope veteran Zack Greinke can trade his recent road struggles for some old Milwaukee magic when they face the Brewers on Saturday night. Greinke (1-4, 5.18 ERA) will be opposed by fellow right-hander Adrian Houser (0-0, 3.86), who will make his second major-league start of the season after four minor-league rehab starts. Milwaukee took the series opener 5-1 on Friday behind Corbin Burnes, who allowed just two singles over six scoreless innings. He walked four, but the Royals couldn't capitalize. |

05-13-23 | Rangers v. A's +126 | 5-0 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 45 m | Show
With one swing of the bat, the A's will look to build on a rare air of momentum while trying to duplicate one of their few positives from earlier in the season. That was when Saturday's scheduled starters -- A's left-hander JP Sears (0-3, 5.54 ERA) and Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (2-1, 3.82) -- matched up in the opener of a three-game set in Texas on April 21. Oakland also won that game in dramatic fashion, getting a tie-breaking home run from Jordan Diaz, the first long ball of his major league career, in the ninth inning for a 5-4 win. Sears struck out a career-high 11 that day -- including Marcus Semien, Robbie Grossman and Josh Jung twice apiece -- but only after allowing a four-run first inning that featured a three-run homer by Jonah Heim. Sears threw five shutout innings after the first and did not get a decision. In fact, he remains winless in his past nine outings (eight starts) dating to last season. The 27-year-old has made three starts against the Rangers in his two-year career, going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA. Gray allowed the first four of Oakland's five runs, one unearned, in 5 1/3 innings. Tony Kemp homered off Gray, but it was Rangers closer Will Smith who served up the difference-making blast to Diaz, who was pinch-hitting for Ryan Noda. Gray, 31, is 1-1 with a 5.66 ERA in four lifetime starts vs. Oakland. |
|||||||
05-12-23 | Rangers -159 v. A's | Top | 7-9 | Loss | -159 | 10 h 45 m | Show |
Texas left-hander Martin Perez (4-1, 3.86 ERA) will try to keep the good times rolling even though he is coming off his worst performance of the season -- seven runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. However, only his stats were negatively affected as the Rangers powered to a 16-8 win. Perez pitched much better -- one run in six innings -- but likewise got more than ample offensive support in a 15-2 win over the New York Yankees in his previous start. The 32-year-old veteran owns a 9-7 record with a 4.46 ERA in 22 games (21 starts) vs. Oakland. The A's have lost five in a row, but they turn to a good-luck charm of sorts when left-hander Ken Waldichuk (1-2, 7.25 ERA) gets the start in the rematch. The 25-year-old has started four wins in his last five outings even though he allowed 15 runs over 27 1/3 innings in those games (4.94 ERA). Oakland has won his past three starts 11-10 and 5-4 twice. The second-year major-leaguer faced the Rangers in his third big-league start last September, and he allowed five runs in five innings during a no-decision. |
|||||||
05-11-23 | Giants v. Diamondbacks +129 | 6-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 30 m | Show
San Francisco is expected to send right-hander Alex Cobb (2-1, 2.01 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. He tossed seven scoreless innings in a 4-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers last Saturday. Cobb, 35, has given up a total of four runs with a 24-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his last four starts covering 26 innings. Arizona will counter with left-hander Tommy Henry (1-0, 5.17), who is making his fourth start since being recalled from Triple-A Reno on April 24. Henry, 25, allowed two runs on six hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Washington Nationals last Saturday. Henry is facing the Giants for the second time after allowing five runs over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision on Sept. 23, 2022. |

05-09-23 | Rangers +158 v. Mariners | 0-5 | Loss | -100 | 18 h 47 m | Show

05-08-23 | Rangers v. Mariners -150 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -150 | 13 h 45 m | Show |
Monday's opener will feature a pair of hard-throwing right-handers, Texas' Jon Gray (1-1, 4.40 ERA) and Seattle's Logan Gilbert (1-1, 4.01). Gray is 1-2 with a 5.53 ERA in five career starts against the Mariners. Gilbert is 2-0, 2.85 in seven lifetime starts vs. the Rangers. |
|||||||
05-08-23 | A's v. Yankees -185 | Top | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 10 h 15 m | Show |
Nestor Cortes (3-2, 4.91 ERA), who is coming off the worst start of his career and has allowed 14 runs over his last three starts, opens the series for New York. Cortes had his turn pushed back due to strep throat and is pitching for the first time since getting torched for seven runs and five hits, including three homers, over 4 2/3 innings in a 15-2 loss at Texas April 30. Cortes is 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA in four career appearances against Oakland. In his only start against the A's, Cortes allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings in a 3-2 road loss on Aug. 28, 2021. JP Sears (0-2, 5.06) -- who was 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA in seven games (two starts) before the Yankees traded him at the 2022 deadline for Frankie Montas -- goes for Oakland. Sears is coming off his best start of the season, when he allowed four hits in six scoreless innings before Oakland's bullpen allowed five runs in the 10th inning of a 7-2 loss to Seattle on Wednesday. |
|||||||
05-05-23 | Yankees +170 v. Rays | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 50 m | Show |
The New York Yankees have plenty of ground to make up on the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East standings. A good time to start would be Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in St. Petersburg, Fla. Despite having the second-highest payroll in the majors, the Yankees enter the series last in the division, nine games behind the MLB-best Rays, who have the 28th-ranked payroll. "We have time to make up ground," New York general manager Brian Cashman told reporters on Wednesday. "... Don't count us out. Don't give up on us." The Yankees helped their cause with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings against the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night, giving New York two straight wins following a four-game losing streak. The Yankees should start moving up the standings once they get some of their injured players back. |

05-04-23 | Blue Jays -160 v. Red Sox | 5-11 | Loss | -160 | 14 h 2 m | Show
Righthander Brayan Bello (0-1, 6.57 ERA) takes the mound for his fourth start of the season after allowing just one run and striking out six in five innings Saturday against Cleveland. Bello was called up from Triple-A Worcester to sub for the injured Garrett Whitlock before his last start. Righty Kevin Gausman (2-2, 2.33) looks to pitch Toronto out of its skid after pitching seven shutout innings in consecutive appearances. He has also fanned at least 11 in three of his last four outings. Gausman did not factor into the decision despite a sparkling line Saturday against Seattle. He scattered six hits, walked one and struck out 13 in seven innings in that game. |
|||||||
05-04-23 | Angels v. Cardinals -135 | 11-7 | Loss | -135 | 9 h 3 m | Show
Los Angeles will start Griffin Canning (1-0, 4.11 ERA) in the finale at Busch Stadium. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in five innings in his previous start, a 5-3 victory over the Oakland A's. That was his first big league victory since June 9, 2021. Canning missed the 2022 season while recovering from a stress fracture in his lower back. He is still scraping off rust and rebuilding endurance. The Cardinals will start Jack Flaherty (2-3, 3.94 ERA), who struggled in his last start while lasting just 4 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits, two walks and a hit batter in a 7-3 loss. |
|||||||
05-03-23 | Giants +150 v. Astros | Top | 4-2 | Win | 150 | 4 h 20 m | Show |
Logan Webb (1-5, 4.10 ERA) will start the series finale for the Giants. The right-hander has recorded a decision in each of his six starts this season. On Thursday, he took a loss against the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Webb lost his first four starts, pitching to a 4.94 ERA, before beating the New York Mets on April 22. Webb is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA over two career starts against the Astros. In his latest appearance against Houston, a 5-3 home victory on Aug. 1, 2021, he allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts over six-plus innings. Left-hander Framber Valdez (2-3, 2.54 ERA) will start the rubber match for Houston. He has logged five consecutive quality starts, most recently allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over seven innings in a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Valdez has alternated losses and wins over his past five starts. Valdez has faced the Giants once previously, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings in a 9-6 road victory on July 30, 2021. |

04-30-23 | Pirates v. Nationals +132 | Top | 2-7 | Win | 132 | 7 h 1 m | Show |

04-30-23 | Guardians v. Red Sox -115 | Top | 1-7 | Win | 100 | 4 h 10 m | Show |
The Boston Red Sox will turn to left-hander Chris Sale as they look to take a three-game series from the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Sunday afternoon. A win in the rubber game would allow Boston to claim its sixth out of the first nine series. Sale (1-2, 8.22 ERA) has not won since his second start back on April 6 against Detroit, going 0-2 in three decisions since. He allowed nine hits and five runs in five innings Monday at Baltimore. The seven-time All-Star is still in the early stages of getting back to his full form after being limited to two starts during an injury-plagued 2022 season. Opposing will be Cleveland's talented young southpaw Logan Allen (1-0, 1.50), who struck out eight in six innings of one-run ball last Sunday during his major league debut against Miami. "(I'm) definitely excited to be on a team where so many young guys are getting opportunities to win games, and to see the success that we're having and just doing our best to contribute to that," Allen said. Boston will be looking to build upon a season-high 16-hit effort during Saturday's 8-7, 10-inning win. |
|||||||
04-29-23 | Giants v. Padres -165 | 11-16 | Win | 100 | 7 h 8 m | Show
The two-game series begins with Giants left-hander Sean Manaea (0-1, 6.61 ERA) paired against Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove (1-0, 5.40). Manaea, 31, signed with the Giants as a free agent last Dec. 19 after spending the 2022 season with the Padres, where he was 8-9 with a 4.96 ERA in 30 appearances (28 starts). He is 2-1 in four lifetime starts against the Padres with a 3.22 ERA. This season, he has given up 12 runs on 14 hits and seven walks with 18 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings over five appearances (three starts). Musgrove didn't make his 2023 debut until April 22 after suffering a fracture to the big toe on his left foot during spring training. Musgrove is 4-3 lifetime against the Giants with a 3.15 ERA in 12 starts (71 1/3 innings). Musgrove was 2-0 against the Giants with a 1.07 ERA in five starts (33 2/3 innings) last season. |
|||||||
04-27-23 | Rays -142 v. White Sox | Top | 14-5 | Win | 100 | 12 h 31 m | Show |
Right-hander Dylan Cease (2-0, 2.73 ERA) is tasked with snapping the White Sox's losing streak. Cease is looking for his own answers after his latest outing. On Saturday against the Rays, he allowed three runs on six hits in four-plus innings, including a first-inning home run by Randy Arozarena, who later won it in the 10th with a walk-off single. Cease has made four lifetime starts against the Rays and is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA across 19 1/3 innings. The right-hander has allowed 13 hits and 14 walks but fanned 22 in those contests. He will oppose a Tampa Bay team that is in the midst of its first slump. The Rays average 6.28 runs per game, the second-best figure in the majors, but suddenly they cannot score. They were shut out Tuesday and Wednesday by the host Astros. Houston starters Luis Garcia and Hunter Brown combined for 13 scoreless innings and 15 strikeouts while yielding just five hits and four walks. Rays manager Kevin Cash said following the second consecutive defeat that it was more about Garcia and Brown than poor execution by his offense. |

04-26-23 | Red Sox v. Orioles -110 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 12 h 55 m | Show |

04-25-23 | Royals v. Diamondbacks -138 | 5-4 | Loss | -138 | 8 h 23 m | Show
Two right-handers will start against each other on Tuesday, Kansas City's Brady Singer (1-2, 8.14 ERA) and Arizona's Ryne Nelson (1-0, 4.91). Singer has started once against the Diamondbacks, earning the win in Kansas City last Aug. 24. He allowed four hits and a run with six strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. Nelson, in his second major league season, has yet to face the Royals. In his first three starts of the season, Nelson pitched between five and six innings each time and allowed no more than three runs in an outing. He had his worst appearance of the year in his latest outing when he yielded five runs in five innings during a no-decision against the Padres on Thursday. Nelson was a 2019 second-round draft pick of the Diamondbacks, the same as Arizona's Monday starter, left-hander Tommy Henry. |
|||||||
04-25-23 | Astros +170 v. Rays | Top | 5-0 | Win | 170 | 5 h 20 m | Show |
A pair of right-handers will take the mound as the series continues on Tuesday. In what will be his fifth start, Houston's Luis Garcia (1-2, 5.14 ERA) will be looking to regain the form that helped him record a career-high 15 victories in 2022. The 26-year-old Venezuelan's most recent outing against the high-powered Toronto Blue Jays has manager Dusty Baker and the rest of the coaching staff encouraged. In the Astros' 8-1 win on Wednesday, Garcia fired seven shutout innings and yielded just two hits. He struck out nine and walked one over a season-high 92 pitches in Houston's first series-clinching win at home thus far. "Garcia was excellent," Baker said. "He minimized his pitches. Him and (catcher Martin Maldonado) work good together. It was much needed for us." Against the Rays in his career, Garcia is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three starts. Drew Rasmussen (3-1, 2.01) gets the ball for Tampa Bay on Tuesday. In all three of his victories, the 27-year-old Puyallup, Wash., native has held the opposition scoreless -- six innings against the Washington Nationals, seven against the Oakland A's and five his last time out in Cincinnati against the Reds on Wednesday. Rasmussen holds a 2-1 record with a 3.00 ERA in three lifetime starts versus the Astros. Alex Bregman is 3-for-8 with a homer against Rasmussen. |

04-25-23 | Red Sox v. Orioles -157 | Top | 8-6 | Loss | -157 | 5 h 21 m | Show |
The Baltimore Orioles will attempt to extend their seven-game winning streak when they face the visiting Boston Red Sox on Tuesday in the middle game of a three-game series. Baltimore won its seventh game in a row by rallying from a four-run deficit to beat Boston 5-4 on Monday. It was Baltimore's 11th victory in its last 13 games. "It kind of feels like last year's team a little bit," Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde said. "We just don't blow a lot of people out. A lot of tight games. I think our players are better for it with how many tight games we played last year." The Orioles have limited their opponents to 11 runs during the seven victories. Boston failed to score in the final six innings Monday after scoring four runs in the first three. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Baltimore pitchers changed their game plan after first baseman Triston Casas hit a solo home run in the second inning. "They were throwing a lot of fastballs early on and then after that (the home run) it was breaking balls and changeups," Cora said. "And then they switched the script again." Kyle Bradish (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is expected to start for Baltimore on Tuesday. |

04-23-23 | Tigers +155 v. Orioles | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 24 m | Show
Touted prospect Grayson Rodriguez (0-0, 6.91 ERA) will be making his fourth career start for Baltimore. He hasn't pitched since last Sunday when the Chicago White Sox scored four runs off him in five innings. The Tigers go with lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2, 3.00), who has been stellar in his last two outings. In 14 innings, he has allowed just one run, and most recently, he blanked Cleveland across eight innings Tuesday. He has had considerable success against Baltimore, racking up a 13-5 career record and 2.94 earned run average in 23 appearances, including 21 starts. He has no more than eight wins against any other team. This will mark the fourth time in five outings that Detroit's Rodriguez gets a road assignment. The Tigers had Will Vest summoned from the minor leagues and he arrived in time for the game and threw two shutout innings in relief Saturday night. |
|||||||
04-22-23 | Royals +161 v. Angels | Top | 11-8 | Win | 161 | 10 h 50 m | Show |
Left-hander Tyler Anderson (1-0, 6.75 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season Saturday for the Angels. After a strong performance his first time out -- six shutout innings in a win against the Oakland Athletics -- he has struggled his past two times out, giving up 11 runs in 8 2/3 innings. Anderson is 0-2 with a 3.32 ERA in three career starts vs. Kansas City. Right-hander Zack Greinke (0-3, 4.03 ) will make his fifth start of the season for Kansas City, still looking for his first victory. He hasn't pitched poorly, getting into the sixth inning in three of the four starts, and allowing three earned runs or less in three of four. Greinke is 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 20 career games (19 starts) against the Angels. Greinke, like the other Royals pitchers, has been a victim of a lack of run support from the offense. The Royals average just 2.95 runs per game, and their total runs scored are tied with the Miami Marlins and Detroit Tigers (58) to make up the bottom three in the majors. |
|||||||
04-22-23 | Marlins v. Guardians -150 | 6-1 | Loss | -150 | 6 h 47 m | Show
Shane Bieber (1-0, 2.88 ERA) will take the bump for Cleveland in the opener, while Miami had not announced its pitcher. Fellow right-hander Zach Plesac (1-0, 6.92), who was slated to start Friday's game, will pitch the nightcap for the Guardians against lefty Braxton Garrett (0-0, 3.38). Cleveland's fancy footwork with the rotation keeps highly touted prospect Logan Allen on schedule to make his major league debut in the series finale on Sunday. "This is the beginning of that next wave that we can hope can impact us and help us win," Guardians manager Terry Francona said. Bieber, 27, allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings in a no-decision against the Washington Nationals on Sunday. The 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner will be starting against the Marlins for the first time in his career. Plesac, 28, pitched well in his lone home outing on April 9, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings during a no-decision vs. the Seattle Mariners. He logged his first win of the season six days later despite permitting four runs (two earned) in five innings during a 6-4 victory over the Nationals. Plesac has yet to face Miami in his career. The Marlins had won six of seven games before dropping a 5-2 decision in 11 innings to the visiting San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon. Garrett, 25, turned in his best performance in his last outing, yielding one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings of a no-decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 15. Like Plesac, Garrett will be facing his Saturday foe for the first time in his career. |
|||||||
04-21-23 | White Sox +158 v. Rays | Top | 7-8 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 51 m | Show |
Michael Kopech (0-2, 6.32 ERA) is scheduled to start the series opener for Chicago. Kopech has pitched well enough in his past two starts to earn his first victory. He limited the Pittsburgh Pirates to one run and two hits in six innings on April 9, but the offense didn't provide any support in the 1-0 loss. He came back last Saturday and took a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning against the visiting Baltimore Orioles, but gave up a leadoff homer and then was removed after walking the next batter. Kopech ultimately surrendered three runs and six hits in five innings of the 7-6 win in 10 innings. He was pleased with his performance, especially since his only effective pitches were his fastball and slider. "At least a third pitch, if not four pitches, would have been nice," Kopech said. "I probably would have been able to go six or seven instead of just into the sixth." Kopech has made one start against the Rays in his MLB career and blanked them on one hit over five innings in a 3-2 win on April 16, 2022. Reliever Calvin Faucher (0-0, 4.15) will make his second straight start for the Rays and could be asked to pitch as many as four innings. The right-hander has thrown just one scoreless inning of relief against the White Sox in his career. |
|||||||
04-20-23 | Mets -112 v. Giants | 9-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 21 m | Show
The Mets will attempt to extend their hot play on a trip that has seen them swept three straight from the Oakland Athletics before taking two of three against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Senga pitched in the Oakland segment of the tour of California and endured his roughest outing of the season, charged with four runs on seven hits with four walks in 4 2/3 innings on Friday. The right-hander was one out away from recording a third consecutive win before getting pulled with the Mets on their way to a 17-6 romp. Senga, who is just three games into his major league career, has never faced Conforto nor the Giants. Heading into his first appearance at San Francisco could be a concern after Senga admitted that being unfamiliar with the Oakland Coliseum hindered his preparation last week. "I think (long innings in the dugout, the result of A's pitchers walking 17 batters) played a factor to some degree and a new ballpark I never pitched in before," he said of his struggles. "Even still, it's up to me to prepare. I needed to concentrate harder than usual, which I wasn't able to do." San Francisco is expected to counter with Sean Manaea (0-0, 4.76 ERA). The left-hander has nothing to show for his past two starts despite holding the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers to a total of three runs and seven hits in 9 1/3 innings. The 31-year-old has faced the Mets just twice in his career, going 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA. The win came last June as a member of the San Diego Padres. Manaea can expect to see lefty-killing Mets outfielder Tommy Pham in the lineup. Pham is 5-for-8 with a double and two home runs off Manaea in his career. The Mets have attacked the A's and Dodgers from multiple angles. Brandon Nimmo is 13-for-26 so far on the trip, Francisco Lindor has driven in nine runs and Lindor and Pete Alonso have each hit two home runs. Nimmo, Pham, Mark Canha and Daniel Vogelbach also have contributed home runs on the trip. |
|||||||
04-19-23 | Pirates -118 v. Rockies | 14-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 44 m | Show
Johan Oviedo (1-1, 2.45 ERA) will look to extend the streak of Pittsburgh quality starts as he makes his fourth start of the season on Wednesday. The Cuban right-hander allowed just one run and struck out 10 over seven innings in his latest start, but he was a hard-luck loser to the St. Louis Cardinals, falling 3-0 on Friday. In his only career appearance against the Rockies, Oviedo allowed three runs in six innings during a no-decision on July 2, 2021, in Denver. Left-hander Austin Gomber (0-3, 8.16) gets the start for Colorado. He is coming off an outing to forget, when he lasted just 3 2/3 innings and allowed five runs in a Friday loss to the Seattle Mariners. Gomber gave up three runs (two earned) in five innings during a start against Pittsburgh on July 17, 2022, and he has an 0-2 record with a 5.06 ERA in seven career appearances (three starts) vs. the Pirates. |

04-18-23 | Brewers +143 v. Mariners | Top | 6-5 | Win | 143 | 13 h 35 m | Show |
Jesse Winker's lone season in Seattle didn't go well. The outfielder tried to play through knee and neck injuries last year, which contributed to him posting career lows in batting average (.219) and OPS (.688) and being limited on defense. Winker was left off the Mariners' playoff roster due to a neck strain, and he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason along with infielder Abraham Toro in exchange for second baseman Kolten Wong. Winker returned to Seattle on Monday as the Brewers opened a three-game interleague series with a 7-3 win, though he sat out with right oblique tightness. The set continues Tuesday night. Before batting practice on Monday, Winker took swings in the cage, and he could return Tuesday to face Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (1-1, 2.70 ERA). Winker wasn't concerned about returning to Seattle, where his reputation on and off the field took a hit. |

04-18-23 | Rays v. Reds +110 | 10-0 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 38 m | Show
One Cincinnati pitcher that hasn't struggled this season is Tuesday's starter, Nick Lodolo (2-0, 2.12 ERA). The lefty has pitched like the club's ace this season, allowing four runs over 17 innings in three starts, striking out 27 and walking six. Lodolo's two wins have come in his two starts at Great American Ball Park. Last year, Lodolo helped the Reds complete a three-game sweep of the Rays in Cincinnati when he allowed three runs on nine hits in five innings in a 10-5 win on July 10. The Rays counter with right-hander Taj Bradley (1-0, 5.40) in the middle game of the series. Bradley, the top pitching prospect in the Tampa Bay organization according to MLB Pipeline, is making his second career start and appearance. In his major league debut last Wednesday against Boston, Bradley picked up the win, allowing three runs and five hits over five innings while walking one and fanning eight. |

04-18-23 | Guardians v. Tigers +121 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 121 | 4 h 15 m | Show |
Matthew Boyd had been scheduled to start the Tigers' series finale against San Francisco on Sunday but that game was also postponed after a long weather delay. Boyd (0-1, 4.00 ERA) will now start one of Tuesday's games. He gave up two runs in 4 2/3 innings to Boston in his last outing. He's 4-7 with a 3.98 ERA in 16 career outings (14 starts) against Cleveland. Eduardo Rodriguez (0-2, 4.50 ERA) will start the other game for Detroit and make his first home start this season. He's pitched on the road three times this season, including a sharp performance in Toronto on Wednesday. He limited the Blue Jays to one run on seven hits in six innings but still wound up with a no-decision. Rodriguez is 2-0 with a 4.05 ERA in four career starts against the Guardians, all of which occurred when he pitched for Boston. Detroit shortstop Javy Baez will aim to build off his improved at-bats during the Giants series. Baez was benched in Toronto on Thursday for a baserunning mistake. He responded by reaching base six times in two games against San Francisco, though he's still hitting just .184 with no home runs. |
