With some time remaining in the offseason, and the World Baseball Classic adding a whole other dimension to the proceedings, a lot can change between now and the start of the regular season, but forward-thinking bettors with the foresight to predict what will happen in the coming weeks can take advantage of current lines.
Chicago Cubs +375
The Cubs ended their ugly World Series drought last season, going gun-to-gun as the favorites to win it all, and coming through in the end.

Theo Epstein and his team of front office wizards built this team to be good for many years to come, and the Cubs enter the 2017 schedule as the favorites to repeat.
Boston Red Sox +550
The Red Sox added a southpaw ace to their staff and year ago, and while that didn’t work out particularly well, it’s tough to shake off how impressive a 1-2 punch of David Price and Chris Sale looks on paper. The team has all the offense it could want – even with the departure of David Ortiz – and the pitching staff from start to finish is one of the best in the league. The Red Sox are the clear favorites to earn the No. 1 seed in the American League.
Cleveland Indians +700
The top contenders to the Red Sox in the A.L. are the Indians, who had a lot of things break their way a year ago. Edwin Encarnacion’s been brought in to solidify the middle part of their lineup, and a number of key starters should return to full health and be able to contribute more than they did a year ago.
The play: Red Sox +550
New York Mets +1800
The Mets just didn’t have a single bounce go their way a year ago after a lot went right for them en route to make the World Series in 2015. The team’s pitching staff remains as good as any, and the offense should benefit from a healthier 2017.
Toronto Blue Jays +2000
The Blue Jays lost Encarnacion from the middle of their lineup, but signing Kendrys Morales proves they’re still looking to win now. This is a good team built around a solid young pitching staff, and there are many bright days ahead for this squad, which had made back-to-back American League Championship games.
Texas Rangers +2500
The Rangers have been a mainstay in the MLB postseason for years, and the 2017 season figures to be no different. The team figures to score runs in bunches, and has the pitching staff to win close games.
The play: Rangers +2500
Kansas City Royals +4000
The Royals made back-to-back World Series appearances in 2014 and 2015 before coming out flat this past season. The majority of the key pieces from those title runs are still in place, so expect more of the squad that ruled the AL for consecutive seasons than the one that failed to make the playoffs a year ago.
Pittsburgh Pirates +5000
The Pirates were expected to continue competing for a World Series last season, but instead they came out flat and were never able to recover.

The team’s current structure doesn’t allow for a lot of roster turnover, so the key players are still around, which means a bounce `back season is likely.
Arizona Diamondbacks +12500
The Diamondbacks have slowly been adding pieces to their core group of players as they build around star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. It’s just a matter of time before they put enough pieces in place to make a serious run at a second World Series crown.
The play: Royals +4000
