MLB BASEBALL FUTURES ODDS – 2020 AL East PREDICTIONS
Looking for 2020 AL East Predictions? New York emerged as the AL East champion a season ago, snapping Boston’s three-year run. The Yankees are odds-on to make it two in a row themselves this season.
MLB Predictions – 2020 AL East Handicapping Insight
Here’s a closer look at the 2020 AL East.
New York Yankees 2020 AL East Predictions
Yankees AL East Division Odds: -300
Yankees Win Total Odds: 100.5
World Series Odds: +400
The Yankees are co-favorites to win the World Series, along with the Dodgers in the National League and they have the highest win total of any team in the big leagues.
New York was injury-riddled en route to its first division title since 2012 a year ago but guys like DJ LeMahieu and Gio Urshela emerged as budding stars in Yankee pinstripes.
Those two and Gleyber Torres give New York tremendous positional flexibility on the infield, which will make it easier to reintegrate a now healthy Miguel Andujar back into the mix.
Both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are now on track to be ready for whenever Opening Day will be. I wrote about Judge as my best buy in the AL MVP futures market.
Tampa Bay Rays 2020 AL East Predictions
Rays AL East Division Odds: +350
Rays Win Total Odds: 92.5
World Series Odds: +2800
Tampa Bay has the longest drought in the AL East. It hasn’t won the crown since 2010.
It is the top challenger to New York, according to the markets and I tend to agree with the masses, not so much because I love Tampa Bay but rather because I just don’t see another true contender in what’s usually one of the best divisions in baseball.
The Rays have pitching but a lot of that pitching emerged as elite for the first time last season. Will it stick in 2020? If Tyler Glasnow stays healthy and Blake Snell bounced back, it might.
But it was incredible a season ago and the Rays still couldn’t beat the Yankees. I tend to believe the gap may actually widen this season.
Boston Red Sox 2020 AL East Predictions
Red Sox AL East Division Odds: +900
Red Sox Win Total Odds: 93.5
World Series Odds: +5000
Not only did Boston trade Mookie Betts and lose Chris Sale to Tommy John Surgery just a couple weeks ago, it had to part ways with its manager, Alex Cora, in light of a sign-stealing scandal.
Cora was beloved by his players, especially Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts, the team’s two foremost stars who both grew up in the Caribbean.
Both were sensational in 2019 and the Red Sox couldn’t muster any better than a third-place finish in the division because of how bad the pitching was.
Well, Dave Dombrowski gutted the system to get his World Series in 2018 and help is not on the way. Any win total in the 90s (on a 162-game season) is way too high for this team. I don’t see Boston being a player this season.
Toronto Blue Jays AL East Division Odds: +3300
Blue Jays Win Total Odds: 73.5
World Series Odds: +25000
Given the Blue Jays‘ young talent and improved pitching staff, I had half a mind to think they could be an intriguing buy in the futures market as a potential growth play.
But 33-1 just isn’t the sort of price I was looking for in the division. Toronto may sprint its way through a shortened season before the young guys hit a wall but it just doesn’t have the pitching depth to get it done, as good as Hyun-Jin Ryu will prove he is by pitching well in the mighty AL East.
Baltimore Orioles AL East Division Odds: +8000
Orioles Win Total Odds: 57.5
World Series Odds: +100000
I must admit, I’m glossing over the Orioles at 80-1. Am I missing something in my negligence? I suppose it’s possible.
CappersPicks.com 2020 AL East Predictions
It’s a tough market because New York is so expensive but it’s also the only team I would consider here. Tampa Bay has a chance but I’m not necessarily jumping at a +300 price.
So what does one do? If you’re comfortable drinking all that juice on a future play, I may suggest something small on the Yankees. Otherwise, I think this division is a pass.
I would, however, give odds on the Red Sox and certainly play the team total under anything up in the 90s.
