NASCAR 2026 Handicapping Odds
2026 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Free Picks are here as the Cup Series heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway for Sunday’s season finale. Kyle Larson needs just nine points to secure the championship, but Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell still have a mathematical shot at the title. I’ve got five outright selections, including Larson, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, Ryan Preece and A.J. Allmendinger.
Homestead returns as the championship venue for the first time since 2019. This 267-lap race has a little of everything: championship pressure, a demanding intermediate track and drivers who know there’s no next Sunday to worry about.
Let’s get to the numbers.
Senior NASCAR Handicapper, CappersPicks.com
I’ve spent plenty of Sundays watching NASCAR races turn on tire management, track position and decisions made on pit road. Homestead rewards drivers who can run the high line without abusing their equipment.
I’m looking for proven track performers and drivers bringing the right speed into the finale. Five selections make my card this week.
2026 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Preview
- Race: NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race
- Track: Homestead-Miami Speedway
- Location: Homestead, Florida
- Date: Sunday, November 8, 2026
- Start Time: 3:00 PM ET
- Television: NBC
- Distance: 267 laps, 400.5 miles
- Stages: 80, 165 and 267 laps
The 1.5-mile Homestead oval has a reputation for rewarding drivers willing to work the outside groove. Maintaining momentum against the wall requires confidence, but pushing too hard can cost a driver valuable track position.
Tire management matters over 267 laps. A car that looks excellent during a short run isn’t necessarily going to maintain that speed over a full fuel run.
Kyle Larson Has the Championship Advantage
Larson enters the finale with a 67-point lead over Christopher Bell and a 70-point advantage over Hamlin. He needs nine points to clinch his third Cup championship, regardless of what either challenger accomplishes.
That changes the way I look at his race. Larson doesn’t need to gamble on every restart or chase stage wins if the championship points are coming his way.
Bell and Hamlin need a victory and significant help. They’re the only other drivers still mathematically eligible for the title.
Larson can concentrate on keeping his car clean and collecting the points he needs. That’s a considerably more comfortable position than the one his two challengers face.
Homestead Practice and Qualifying Results
Chase Briscoe was fastest in Friday practice, with Austin Cindric second and Hamlin third. Blaney posted the strongest 10-lap average, an encouraging sign for a race where long-run performance can separate contenders.
Saturday qualifying gave Briscoe the pole, with Hamlin second, Tyler Reddick third and Larson fourth. Blaney starts ninth, while Preece starts 32nd and Allmendinger 29th.
Those starting positions matter, particularly for the longer-priced selections. Preece and Allmendinger have plenty of traffic to negotiate before they can challenge the leaders.
Homestead isn’t a track where I automatically throw out a driver starting deep. But he needs enough long-run speed to make up those positions without burning through his tires.
Recent Homestead Winners
Homestead has produced several different winners since the Next Gen car arrived. Larson has won twice during that period, including the March 2025 race.
- 2025: Kyle Larson
- 2024: Tyler Reddick
- 2023: Christopher Bell
- 2022: Kyle Larson
- 2021: William Byron
- 2020: Denny Hamlin
- 2019: Kyle Busch
- 2018: Joey Logano
- 2017: Martin Truex Jr.
- 2016: Jimmie Johnson
One important distinction: these are Homestead Cup Series winners, not a list of the previous championship-race winners. The championship event has moved between venues over the years.

NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Free Picks
I’ve got five drivers on my outright card. Larson has the championship cushion and Homestead history, Blaney brings excellent intermediate-track form, and Briscoe arrives with the fastest practice time and pole position.
Preece and Allmendinger offer longer prices backed by their previous performances at this track.
Kyle Larson +500 — NASCAR Free Pick
Larson is a two-time Homestead winner, including the March 2025 race. He started 14th that afternoon, led 19 laps and took the victory after passing teammate Alex Bowman late.
He’s also one of the best drivers in the series at working the high line. That ability becomes particularly important at Homestead, where maintaining speed around the outside can make a substantial difference.
Larson starts fourth this time and was 10th fastest in practice. He doesn’t need to take unnecessary chances with the championship within reach, but his experience and track record make him a legitimate race contender.
At +500, the implied break-even probability is 16.7%. That’s a significant price for a driver with his Homestead résumé, especially when he’s already demonstrated he can win here from a less favorable starting position.
Razor’s pick: Kyle Larson +500.
Ryan Blaney +550 — NASCAR Free Pick
Blaney has been exceptionally competitive at Homestead. He finished runner-up in the two races before Larson’s 2025 victory, and he led a race-high 124 laps in that most recent event before an engine failure ended his afternoon.
His recent intermediate-track form also deserves attention.
Blaney has recorded three consecutive top-five finishes at 1.5-mile tracks, and his long-run practice averages were the best of the field. He qualified ninth, giving him some ground to make up, but I like the speed underneath this car.
He isn’t eligible for the championship anymore, so his attention can remain on winning the race. That’s an important distinction in a finale where Larson has a points cushion to protect.
At +550, I’m willing to back the driver who has repeatedly shown he can run at the front here.
Razor’s pick: Ryan Blaney +550.
Chase Briscoe +700 — NASCAR Free Pick
Briscoe is coming off an excellent run at intermediate tracks, including victories in three of his last four races on 1.5-mile layouts, according to the writer’s supplied statistics.
His Homestead history isn’t as strong as Larson’s or Blaney’s, but the current speed is difficult to ignore.
Briscoe led Friday practice and then backed it up by winning Saturday qualifying. Starting first gives him the opportunity to control the opening laps rather than fight through traffic.
He needs to keep the car underneath him over the long runs. If that happens, he’s got a genuine opportunity to convert the pole into a victory.
The +700 price implies a 12.5% break-even probability. That’s a number I can work with considering his recent form and starting position.
Razor’s pick: Chase Briscoe +700.
Ryan Preece +6000 — NASCAR Darkhorse Pick
Preece has quietly built a respectable Homestead record in the Next Gen era. His average finish at the track is 10.7, and he’s finished inside the top 13 in each of his previous appearances.
He finished ninth last year after starting 31st, demonstrating that a poor qualifying position doesn’t automatically eliminate him.
There’s another reason to consider him. Preece has been competitive on intermediate tracks throughout the season, with five finishes between 10th and 15th in eight starts, according to the writer’s supplied figures.
Starting 32nd again makes this a difficult assignment. He’ll need to make progress early without wearing out his tires or getting caught in traffic.
At +6000, the implied break-even probability is 1.64%. I’m keeping this one smaller, but the track history gives me a reason to include him.
Razor’s pick: Ryan Preece +6000.
A.J. Allmendinger +15000 — NASCAR Longshot Pick
Allmendinger is one of the more interesting longshots on the board. He’s finished inside the top 10 in each of his four previous Next Gen appearances at Homestead, including an eighth-place finish last year.
His average finish of 5.8 across those four races is an impressive track-specific record.
He starts 29th, which isn’t ideal, and his intermediate-track results this season haven’t been nearly as strong as his Homestead performances. That makes this a bet on a specific venue rather than a broad endorsement of his current form.
The +15000 odds imply a break-even probability of just 0.66%. A top-10 history at this track gives him a plausible path to outperforming that number, although outright victories are a different challenge.
I’m treating him as a genuine longshot and keeping the exposure modest.
Razor’s pick: A.J. Allmendinger +15000.

Five NASCAR Handicapping Questions Before the Green Flag
- Who has the best long-run speed?
Blaney posted the strongest 10-lap average in practice. That matters at Homestead, where maintaining speed over a full run can be more important than producing one spectacular lap. - Which drivers have the strongest Homestead history?
Larson, Blaney, Preece and Allmendinger all have meaningful results at this track. Venue-specific performance deserves attention when evaluating outright prices. - Can the pole sitter control the race?
Briscoe starts first after leading practice. Track position gives him an early advantage, but pit strategy and tire management will determine whether he can maintain it. - How much championship pressure affects strategy?
Larson needs nine points to clinch. Bell and Hamlin need a victory and help, so their approach can be considerably more aggressive than the championship leader’s. - Which longshots can move through traffic?
Preece and Allmendinger start 32nd and 29th. Their historical Homestead results are encouraging, but they’ll need clean passes and consistent speed to reach the front.
NASCAR Betting Strategy for the Championship Race
Five outright selections don’t mean five equal bets. Larson, Blaney and Briscoe have stronger immediate winning cases, while Preece and Allmendinger need more things to go right.
I’d keep the longer-priced selections smaller and avoid turning a five-driver card into an oversized investment.
Also remember that outright odds are not the only way to bet NASCAR. Top-five, top-10 and head-to-head selections can provide different ways to approach a driver whose strengths point toward a strong finish but not necessarily a victory.
My biggest concern with the longshots is starting position. A driver can have excellent Homestead history, but he still has to get through 267 laps and 39 other cars. Don’t confuse a big payout with an easy path to victory.

Razor Ray’s Final NASCAR Championship Race Take
Larson is in the driver’s seat for the championship, but that doesn’t mean he has to win Sunday’s race. Blaney and Briscoe have enough speed and track position to make a serious run at the checkered flag.
Preece and Allmendinger are my longer-priced additions. Both have Homestead history worth respecting, even with difficult starting positions.
I’m keeping the card selective. Five drivers, five different paths to victory, and no reason to manufacture another selection just to fill the page.
RAZOR RAY’S TAKE: Larson has the championship points advantage, but the race trophy is still up for grabs. Blaney has the long-run speed, Briscoe has the pole, and my two longshots have proven they can get around this place. Now let’s see who can put together 267 clean laps.
