New England Patriots: -700
Miami Dolphins: +1100
Buffalo Bills: +1100
New York Jets: +600
Let’s not get cute here. We’ve all heard about the rift between Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft, and we all heard about the uncertainties regarding Rob Gronkowski’s future.
They will all be fine. The Patriots will be fine.
Let’s move on.
LA Chargers: +175
Oakland Raiders: +275
Kansas City Chiefs: +275
Denver Broncos: +400
The LA Chargers enter the 2018-19 campaign with the top odds to win the AFC West. We have one word to describe that.
LA is a classic case of being a year away. Not a year away from being a year away…but a year away.
So long as they can stay healthy, we like the Oakland Raiders to take this title. Reports have come out of camp that Carr’s receivers aren’t hauling in his passes.
As long as they figure that out, Oakland has our money for the division title.
Pittsburgh Steelers: -280
Baltimore Ravens: +400
Cincinnati Bengals: +750
Cleveland Browns: +900
It seems like every season, media members and fans alike start to wonder if this is it for Big Ben Roethlisberger. And then every offseason, the man behind center squashes those ideas before they ever start to really take shape.
This offseason was no different.
With Big Ben back and his team presumably healthy, the Steelers should be easy money when it comes to a division title. Bell’s contract situation will undoubtedly dominate the season, but it shouldn’t impact on-field production.
AFC South Predictions
Houston Texans: +170
Jacksonville Jaguars: +185
Tennessee Titans: +275
Indianapolis Colts: +375
The Houston Texans are another team that will likely fall into the overrated category. It’s true that we’re going to see a different squad now that they’re healthy, but the AFC South should belong to the Jacksonville Jaguars, as they try to build upon the momentum they gained last season.
Philadelphia Eagles: -175
Dallas Cowboys: +350
New York Giants: +700
Washington Redskins: +750
A popular pick here is going to be the Dallas Cowboys. They’re an easy team to hate on, but they’re also an easy team to throw some money at when they’re underdogs knowing that they could exceed expectations on both a week-to-week basis as well as a season-wide basis.
With that in mind, Philly is the easy choice here. This team enters the 2018-19 campaign with the second-best Super Bowl odds for a reason, and if the Pats prove to be officially a step past their primes, Philadelphia will be next in line and the all-of-a-sudden favorites to take home a second straight Lombardi trophy.
LA Rams: -135
San Francisco 49ers: +280
Seattle Seahawks: +400
Arizona Cardinals: +1500
Without sounding like we’re on repeat (after all, every division seemingly has one), San Francisco will be another team that’s slightly overrated coming into the year. Like the Chargers, consider this squad a year away (but a “closer” year away than LA, FWIW).
With that in mind, the Rams will be the obvious choice here. Seattle could surprise some folks and push through their changes with a seamless transition, but we can’t trust them at this point.
NFC North Predictions
Minnesota Vikings: +115
Green Bay Packers: +150
Detroit Lions: +600
Chicago Bears: +900
This situation is the opposite of some of the other ones we’ve already previewed. The Green Bay Packers shouldn’t be considered overrated at all just because they’re getting healthy.
This season, Aaron Rodgers has the potential to have one of his best campaigns to date. If that comes to fruition, Green Bay becomes both a strong underdog pick to win the division as well as a sneaky pick to steal the trophy everyone desires away from those Eagles up in Philly.
NFC South Predictions
New Orleans Saints: +180
Atlanta Falcons: +185
Carolina Panthers: +290
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: +600
The New Orleans Saints experienced a resurgence in 2017, and that’s going to continue this season.
Atlanta is going to be a popular pick, as well as the Panthers, to steal away a division title, but the Saints’ defensive improvements are going to be the big difference. They were third a year ago in interceptions, seventh in sacks and 10th in points allowed.
Combine that defense with the always dangerous Drew Brees and the team’s emerging (and already dominant) running game, and you’ve got a full package ready to compete in some meaningful playoff football.
