The PGA Tour is heading to Jack’s Place for the Memorial Tournament at Muirfiled Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus will play host in this tournament which serves as the second to last Signature Event in the 2025 schedule.
The Memorial has been played at Muirfield Village since its debut in 1976, making this one of the PGA Tour’s longest tenured events at the same venue. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be in the field looking to defend his title in the seventh of eight signature events on the Tour schedule, with only the Travelers Championship remaining this year.
This Week on the PGA Tour
Jack Nicklaus is serving as tournament host this week and welcomes a field of 72 players. One notable name not in the field this week is Rory McIlroy, who’s skipping this event for the first time in eight years. Participating would have meant Rory would need to make four consecutive starts as he’s committed to the each of the tournaments in the following three weeks – the Canadian Open, the U.S. Open, and the Travelers Championship.
McIlroy played three consecutive weeks culminating in the U.S. Open a year ago when he played the Canadian Open, the Memorial, then the U.S. Open at Pinehurst and felt like he ran out of steam by the end of it.
Rory said at the start of the season he was aiming to limit his schedule this year to help him be at his best in major tournaments. So far that’s paid off after he completed his career grand slam by winning the Masters. Taking this week off is part of his U.S. Open preparation and avoids back-to-back start before playing at Oakmont, which he’s prioritizing over his seven-year streak at the Memorial.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be playing after winning the PGA Championship earlier in the month. He’s the defending champion here, and 2023 Memorial winner Viktor Hovland is also in the field, as well as other big names including Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, and Ludvig Aberg, who finished T4 in his Memorial debut last year.
