Here’s why I’m backing a Vancouver ML bet below in my Canucks Devils free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Canucks vs. Devils Gameday
The Vancouver Canucks visit the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET, with coverage on Sportsnet and MSG Sports Network. Both clubs are trying to end two-game losing streaks, so somebody will finally have a reason to smile afterward.
Vancouver enters 2-3-0 under first-year head coach Manny Malhotra.
The Canucks have been entertaining, although not always for the reasons their coaching staff would prefer. They’re beginning an Eastern road trip with plenty to sort out. A visit to Newark isn’t exactly a complimentary tune-up.
Two talented teams with shaky starts meet in a matchup where the next mistake could matter most.
New Jersey is 1-2-0 under Sheldon Keefe. The Devils are continuing a three-game homestand after dropping their previous two contests.
The teams split their two meetings last season.
New Jersey won 5-4 in January, while Vancouver took the December encounter in a shootout. The Canucks have won three of the last five meetings overall. History suggests another competitive afternoon, although neither club has earned much confidence from its early results.

Vancouver Canucks vs. New Jersey Devils Odds & Previous Games
New Jersey opened as a -278 moneyline favorite, with Vancouver at +229. The Canucks were also listed at +1.5 (-112) on the puck line, while the total was 6.5.
That’s a serious price for a favorite with only one victory.
Vancouver began with a 6-5 overtime win over Edmonton before losing the rematch 9-7. The Canucks followed with a 4-1 victory over Calgary, then lost 3-2 to Vegas and 7-2 to Carolina. Their first five games have offered enough goals to keep scoreboard operators employed full-time.
New Jersey opened with a 3-2 overtime win against Philadelphia. The Devils then lost 6-0 to the Islanders and 5-3 to Utah.
Neither team arrives with much momentum.
The contrasting offensive results make this an interesting matchup for totals bettors. Vancouver has played several wide-open games, while New Jersey has struggled to convert its opportunities. Compare prices at your preferred sportsbooks before committing to either side.

Devils Stats
New Jersey has scored six goals through three games, averaging two per contest. The Devils have generated 114 shots, but their finishing has been disappointing. Their power play has produced one goal, hardly the return expected from this much offensive talent.
Luke Evangelista leads the team with two goals and three points.
Jack Hughes has contributed a goal and an assist, while Jesper Bratt has two helpers. The Devils have enough playmakers to generate chances, but getting everyone involved has been a challenge.
New Jersey has allowed 13 goals while recording 43 hits and 32 blocked shots. The defensive coverage hasn’t consistently supported its goaltending.
That’s a problem when the offense isn’t providing much breathing room.
Jake Allen has made 49 saves across two appearances, while Nico Daws has also seen action. Allen owns a 4.33 goals-against average and an .852 save percentage. Neither has been confirmed as Saturday’s starter.
Defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler is uncertain after leaving the Utah game injured. Johnathan Kovacevic could return if Siegenthaler cannot play, while Seamus Casey remains sidelined with a knee injury.
Canucks Stats
Vancouver has scored 21 goals through five games, averaging 4.2 per contest. The Canucks have also registered 37 assists, reflecting contributions throughout the lineup. Unfortunately, they’ve surrendered 25 goals, making even comfortable leads feel suspiciously temporary.
Elias Pettersson leads Vancouver with eight points, including two goals and six assists.
Pettersson has recorded a point in every game. Paul Cotter has also made an immediate impact with four goals, giving Vancouver another dangerous finishing option.
The Canucks have shown they can score in different situations, but their defensive structure remains a concern.
Vancouver has enough scoring talent to trouble New Jersey, provided its defensive mistakes don’t overwhelm the attack.
Kevin Lankinen carries a 5.00 goals-against average and an .843 save percentage. Leevi Meriläinen has posted a 7.05 goals-against average and a .796 save percentage. Those numbers are hardly the foundation of a relaxing afternoon behind the bench.
Neither goalie has been confirmed as the starter.
Thatcher Demko remains sidelined with a hip injury, leaving Vancouver dependent on its available tandem. Filip Chytil is also on injured reserve with a shoulder issue. Malhotra needs cleaner play in front of whichever goalie gets the assignment.
Vancouver Canucks vs. New Jersey Devils bottom line: Vancouver’s dangerous attack meets a New Jersey team struggling to finish its chances, making this a matchup where disciplined defensive play could decide the afternoon.
Vancouver Canucks vs. New Jersey Devils Hockey Betting Trends

Canucks Devils Free Pick: Canucks ML +229
Here is my Canucks Devils free pick: Vancouver Canucks ML +229. I’m taking a shot with the underdog because this price asks Vancouver to win less than one-third of the time to make financial sense. Nobody needs to convince me the Canucks are Stanley Cup material, especially after watching their recent adventures.
New Jersey deserves to be favored at home, but -278 is a hefty admission fee for a team still trying to find its rhythm. The Devils have had more time to prepare, which I respect, although rest doesn’t automatically fix execution. At this price, I’ll gladly let somebody else pay for the privilege of backing the favorite.
Vancouver’s underdog price offers enough upside to justify the risk of backing an unpredictable team against an expensive favorite.
The key is surviving New Jersey’s early push. If Vancouver stays within striking distance through the opening period, the pressure shifts toward the home team to justify that enormous price. I also like the potential for an opportunistic road win rather than needing Vancouver to control every shift.
One timely special-teams goal or a late scoring chance could change the outcome, and neither requires the Canucks to dominate for 60 minutes. There’s risk here, plenty of it. That’s why the sportsbooks are offering better than 2-to-1 instead of handing out charitable donations.
I’ll take the payout potential. This is a “medium” lean for Saturday.
My play is on the Canucks ML +229.
