Canucks vs. Hurricanes Gameday
The Vancouver Canucks visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, October 8, at Lenovo Center in Raleigh. Puck drop is set for 7 PM ET, with Sportsnet Pacific carrying the game for Vancouver viewers. Manny Malhotra’s Canucks enter at 2-2-0, while Rod Brind’Amour’s Hurricanes are 2-1-1. Vancouver opens a six-game road trip after alternating wins and losses through its first four outings.
The Canucks last played Sunday, falling 3-2 to Vegas. Their early season has featured some terrific attacking hockey and a few defensive performances the coaching staff probably won’t be framing.
Vancouver has brought the entertainment, but Malhotra would probably settle for fewer defensive adventures.
Carolina returns home chasing a third consecutive victory after defeating Montreal 6-4 on Tuesday.
Taylor Hall scored twice, and Sebastian Aho contributed a goal and two assists.
The Hurricanes are still looking for their first home win. Vancouver, meanwhile, has enjoyed three days away from game action and should arrive with fresher legs.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Carolina Hurricanes Odds & Previous Games
Carolina opened as a -336 moneyline favorite, with Vancouver priced at +277. The Hurricanes are favored by 1.5 goals on the puck line, and the total is set at 6.5.
The Canucks began with a 6-5 overtime win over Edmonton before losing the rematch 9-7. They followed that with a 4-1 victory against Calgary, giving them a particularly eventful opening week.
Carolina beat Philadelphia 3-2 in overtime after earlier losses to Florida and Washington. The Hurricanes have responded well since that difficult start, although their results have not always been convincing.
Carolina won both meetings last season, taking a 4-3 overtime decision at home and a 6-4 victory in Vancouver. The Hurricanes have won four consecutive meetings, but the Canucks are 4-4-2 over their last 10 against Carolina.
That recent series record favors the home team without making every matchup a mismatch. The puck line gives Vancouver supporters a little room to work with against a heavily favored opponent.

Hurricanes Stats
Carolina has scored 11 goals through four games while generating 121 shots. The Hurricanes are producing plenty of offensive-zone pressure, although their scoring efficiency has room to improve.
Sebastian Aho leads Carolina with seven points, including four goals and three assists.
Andrei Svechnikov has contributed four points, and Hall’s recent performance provides another encouraging sign.
The Hurricanes have scored four power-play goals, giving their special teams an important early contribution. Their penalty kill has also been effective, operating at 89.5%.
Carolina has recorded 116 hits and 51 blocked shots. Brind’Amour’s club remains aggressive without the puck, using its forecheck to create turnovers and force hurried decisions.
Seth Jarvis continues recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and has been practicing in a no-contact jersey.
His absence takes an important forward out of Carolina’s regular rotation.
Canucks Stats
Vancouver has scored 19 goals through four games, ranking third in the NHL at 4.75 goals per game. The Canucks have been dangerous offensively, with several players contributing immediately.
Paul Cotter leads the team with four goals and two assists. Elias Pettersson has two goals and four assists, while Filip Hronek has supplied five assists from the blue line.
Marco Rossi has scored three even-strength goals, giving Vancouver another finishing option. That production has helped the Canucks generate offense beyond their most familiar names.
Vancouver’s forwards have done their jobs; the defensive side of the operation still needs a meeting.
The Canucks have allowed 18 goals, the most in the league entering Thursday. Their penalty kill sits at 68.8%, making defensive-zone discipline a pressing concern.
Vancouver has also been physical, recording 100 hits and 74 blocked shots.
Those efforts haven’t always translated into clean defensive possessions, and puck management remains an issue.
Canucks vs. Hurricanes Goalie Matchup
Kevin Lankinen has started three of Vancouver’s four games, allowing 16 goals. His early numbers have been difficult, and the Canucks need steadier work in their crease.
Leevi Meriläinen has also appeared for Vancouver, giving Malhotra another option.
Neither goalie had been confirmed as Thursday’s starter in the official pregame material reviewed.
Carolina’s Pyotr Kochetkov is the likely starter after Brandon Bussi played Tuesday in Montreal. Kochetkov stopped 16 of 18 shots during the Hurricanes’ overtime victory against Philadelphia.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Bussi has played three games and allowed 10 goals. Carolina’s goaltending has been inconsistent at times, although its defensive structure can help reduce prolonged pressure.
The Hurricanes will want to keep Vancouver’s forwards away from second opportunities, while the Canucks must protect the middle of the ice. Both clubs have enough offensive skill to punish loose coverage.
Check the final starting assignments and puck-line prices at your preferred sportsbooks before betting. Goaltending remains an important consideration in a matchup with this much early-season scoring.
Vancouver Canucks vs. Carolina Hurricanes bottom line: Carolina has the stronger defensive structure and recent series advantage, while Vancouver’s offensive depth should make the matchup interesting.

Canucks Hurricanes Free Pick: Canucks PL +1.5
Here is my Canucks Hurricanes free pick: Vancouver Canucks +1.5. Carolina deserves to be favored, but I’m not paying -336 for the privilege of cheering for the obvious choice. Give me the puck-line insurance.
My biggest concern for Carolina backers is the pressure that comes with this spread. Winning isn’t enough; the Hurricanes need separation. Against a Vancouver club that can answer quickly, building that cushion may prove more difficult than the odds suggest. I want the Canucks keeping their shifts short, getting through the neutral zone cleanly and making Carolina defend rather than dictate every possession. If Vancouver stays within a goal entering the third, I’m sitting in a pretty comfortable spot.
I’ll let Carolina worry about winning the game while I worry about collecting on the extra goal.
The Canucks also have the benefit of preparation time. I like that advantage for a road team facing an aggressive opponent, particularly early in the season when defensive assignments are still being sorted out.
Could Carolina win by three? Absolutely. I’m not about to pretend Vancouver’s early defensive work belongs in a coaching clinic.
But there’s a difference between recognizing the better team and handing it a comfortable cover.
I’ve watched enough heavy favorites win ugly to know that the scoreboard doesn’t care what the sportsbooks expected. A one-goal Carolina victory works just fine for me, and an outright Vancouver upset would be a nice bonus. I’ll take the extra goal, trust Vancouver to compete.
My play is Canucks +1.5.
