Predators vs. Canadiens Gameday
The Nashville Predators visit the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, October 8, at the Bell Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM ET, with Nashville entering at 1-1-1 and Montreal carrying the same record.
Andrew Brunette’s Predators are playing the second game of their eastern Canada road trip after a frustrating overtime defeat in Toronto. Nashville led 3-0 and 4-2 before the Maple Leafs rallied for a 5-4 victory.
Steven Stamkos and Nils Hoglander each scored twice, but the Predators couldn’t finish the job. Blowing a two-goal third-period lead is a lousy way to start a road trip, particularly when the next opponent has plenty of offensive talent.
Nashville has shown it can build a lead; keeping one has been the more expensive lesson.
Martin St. Louis’ Canadiens return to the Bell Centre following consecutive losses. Montreal fell 6-5 in overtime at Pittsburgh before losing 6-4 to Carolina in its home opener.
Nick Suzuki and Zachary Bolduc have provided early offense, but the Canadiens have struggled to limit dangerous chances. Montreal has the talent to score in bunches, although giving up goals nearly as quickly isn’t much of a long-term strategy.

Nashville Predators vs. Montreal Canadiens Odds & Previous Games
Montreal opened as a -180 moneyline favorite, with Nashville returning +152.
The Canadiens were -1.5 at +141 on the puck line, while the Predators were +1.5 at -171. The total opened at 6.5 goals, with the Under priced at -129.
Nashville opened its season with a 3-1 loss to Minnesota before beating Dallas 2-1. Montreal began with a 3-2 victory over Toronto, giving both clubs one regulation win through their first three games.
The Canadiens won both meetings last season, including a 3-2 overtime victory at the Bell Centre in October 2025. Nashville is 3-5-2 in its last 10 against Montreal and 1-3-1 in its last five visits to this building.
Those recent results favor the home team, although Nashville has historically been competitive in this series. The Predators have earned at least a point in 20 of their last 26 meetings with Montreal, which makes the head-to-head picture a little more interesting than the recent losses suggest.

Canadiens Stats
Montreal has scored 12 goals through three games, but its offense has been unable to overcome some costly defensive lapses.
Nick Suzuki leads the Canadiens with six points, including four assists, while Zachary Bolduc has scored three goals. Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky give Montreal additional finishing ability, making its forward group dangerous when it gets moving.
The Canadiens have been aggressive on the forecheck and willing to attack off turnovers. That approach can create scoring opportunities, but it also requires disciplined defensive coverage when possession changes.
Montreal will be without Ivan Demidov, who is expected to miss two to four weeks with a lower-body injury. His absence removes another skilled option from the lineup, putting additional responsibility on the established forwards.
Predators Stats
Nashville has scored seven goals through three games, with much of its early production coming from its veteran forwards.
Steven Stamkos leads the Predators with three goals and an assist, while Nils Hoglander has also scored three times. Filip Forsberg has contributed three assists, and Roman Josi has opened with a three-game point streak.
The power play has converted three of eight opportunities, operating at 38% and ranking eighth in the NHL. Stamkos has supplied two of those goals, with Hoglander scoring the other.
Nashville’s power play has been productive, but its five-on-five game still needs more consistent pressure.
Ryan O’Reilly remains an important part of Nashville’s veteran leadership and reached 900 career points during the Toronto game. The Predators have experienced players throughout the lineup, although experience only helps when the execution follows.
Predators vs. Canadiens Goalie Matchup
Juuse Saros has started all three games for Nashville, making 88 saves with a 91% save percentage.
Saros stopped 32 shots against Toronto and remains the Predators’ most established option in net. His positioning and ability to handle sustained pressure are important strengths, especially when Nashville’s defensive coverage breaks down.
Montreal has relied on Jakub Dobes during its opening stretch. Dobes made 28 saves against Carolina, but the Canadiens have allowed too many dangerous opportunities in front of him.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Nashville’s Justus Annunen remains on injured reserve, limiting its established options behind Saros. Neither club’s Thursday starter was officially confirmed in the pregame material reviewed.
Montreal needs to do a better job clearing rebounds and limiting second chances, while Nashville must avoid the extended defensive-zone shifts that have caused problems early. Both teams have enough offensive talent to make those mistakes costly.
Anyone comparing the moneyline at their preferred sportsbooks should check the starting goalie announcements before puck drop. The matchup could look considerably different depending on the final assignments.
Nashville Predators vs. Montreal Canadiens bottom line: Montreal brings the stronger recent head-to-head record and home ice, but Nashville has the veteran talent to challenge a Canadiens team still working through defensive problems.

Predators Canadiens Free Pick: Predators ML +152
Here is my Predators Canadiens free pick: Predators ML +152. Montreal deserves to be favored at home, but I’m not convinced Nashville should be getting this generous a price.
The Predators have enough experience to make this a difficult game for Montreal, particularly if they can establish their forecheck and keep the puck in the offensive zone. Nashville doesn’t need to dominate possession for 60 minutes. It needs to make its good stretches count. What interests me is how Nashville can attack Montreal’s defensive coverage. The Canadiens have had trouble clearing their zone under pressure, and the Predators have forwards capable of turning those extended shifts into dangerous chances.
At +152, I’m willing to back Nashville’s veterans to take advantage of a Montreal defense that’s been giving opponents opportunities.
There’s also a situational angle here. Montreal is playing its second home game in three nights, and Nashville has had a day to regroup after letting a winnable game slip away in Toronto. I expect a sharper effort from the Predators, especially in their own end.
I’m not ignoring Montreal’s offensive talent or the Bell Centre crowd. The Canadiens can make an opponent pay for mistakes, and Nashville has already shown it can make a few of those without being asked twice. But this is why I like taking underdogs selectively. I don’t need Nashville to win this matchup six times out of ten to make +152 attractive.
I need a legitimate chance to win one game at a price worth betting.
I’ve paid enough expensive favorites over the years to know the difference between a better team and a better bet.
I’ll take my chances with the Predators ML +152.
