This is the first game of the second week of the preseason. The opening week saw games fly over totals and a few rookie quarterbacks prove that they might be able to have success in the league.
Top pick Cam Ward of the Titans was ok.
Even though he is a rookie the job is his at this point.
Atlanta got through its opening game without playing either of Michael Pennix or Kirk Cousins. They might be happy to have other teams taking on those kinds of roller coasters this offseason.
At some point, they are going to take the bubble wrap off of their best players and this home game feels like it could be that spot. The offense was pretty anemic in their first game but the Falcons could be a lot better on Friday night.
As for Tennessee this looks like one of the worst teams in the league, no matt how good Ward may turn out to be.
Tennessee Titans
Even though we saw lots of scoring last week the Titans scored just 7 points. Quarterbacks not named Ward threw three interceptions and they had just one play over 20 yards for the whole game.
I know it is preseason, but it is hard to compete in the NFL when there is no explosiveness to your offense. You have to be perfect in execution, and the Titans are not the Chiefs.
I have to think the Titans are going to give Ward more run to get him ready for the season. Though after what we have seen from the whole team thus far that only increases their chances of winning marginally.
Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta is one of the more mysterious teams in the NFL heading into the season. Nobody thinks they are going to be great but if they are truly past the Pennix/Cousins stuff, there is enough talent for this offense to be quite good. RB Bijan Robinson is considered among the top five in the sport and WR Drake London is a monster.
I think we start to see some of that come to fruition on Friday. Neither will play the full game for sure they might be enough to stake the Falcons to an easy lead.

This line feels a little off to me. Tennessee is not going to be favored at all this season but suddenly they are needing to win by a touchdown on the road to cover. I know the preseason is unpredictable but that seems too much to count on for me.
I just don’t trust the Titans offense to score enough to feel comfortable in this spot and it is not like the defense is impressive either.
It is the preseason so you don’t want to lean too hard into season long assessments, but these teams are in different tiers for me and the gap is not small enough that this stage of the year is enough to overcome. The line might be suggesting we are getting nothing from the Falcons stars but even in that case these groups are probably even.
This is the first game of the week and we are always itching to get down as the season approaches but tread carefully for this one.
