Tom Brady showed us last Sunday that he will never die. He led the Bucs to a victory over the Saints in the final three minutes down by two scores and engineered back to back touchdown drives.
The Buccaneers are truly one of the toughest teams to handicap week in and week out, they are the worst team against the spread and many consider their reign to be over but not far behind them in the ATS record log is the Chiefs who many consider to be the class of the NFL.
Certain factors in every game can explain that phenomenon logically of course but it’s nevertheless a puzzling stat to behold.
The Bucs still have one of the best defences in the NFL and if all this talent on the offensive side of the ball can get it moving despite the poor offensive line play that it would stand to reason that they will break out. It’s just harder and harder to keep hoping for that moment as we draw closer to the end of this campaign.
But make no mistake about it, Brady still got it.
Their foe in the other corner in this one is also going to be a tough one to evaluate heading into this matchup as they will begin life without their rock steady quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Brock Purdy is expected to start and he looked very good in relief when Jimmy exited the game with the foot injury.
I always temper my expectations when rookie QB’s do well in relief because the opposing team didn’t prepare for him and it rarely happens again. But time will tell.
So let’s dive in a little closer.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Despite the Tom Brady will apparently never die factor, this offence is still quite inefficient and it’s largely due to the offensive line being torn apart from injuries. The Tristan Wirfs injury was the final nail in the coffin which essentially seals this team’s fate for the year.
I will never count Tom Brady out of the fight, you just simply cannot after what he did on Monday night. But there is no argument that they can hang in there against the likes of the Eagles, or 49ers if they get Jimmy back for playoffs or even the Cowboys whose defensive front would tear the Bucs o-line apart until they shit sideways.
The offence ranks very low on the board in every metric. 27th in the league in points per game and 30th in expected points per play are two of the worst stats they register.
Their defence on the other hand as I said before is still very good and ranks in the top ten in every major metric. They still have the guys to get the job done on that side of the ball they just need some run support.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers were dealt a knockout blow last Sunday as I’m sure you’re already aware. Losing their second, first string quarterback of the season Jimmy Garoppolo went down with what was initially rules a broken foot that required season ending surgery, but it’s since been diagnosed as not a break and he could be back for playoffs.
That would make a decision for head coach Kyle Shanahan rather difficult come playoff time. If Brock Purdy plays well and gets them in the dance, the divisional round would be 7 weeks away and the conference championship would be 8 weeks away.
So the timeline is tricky, do you put a guy in that late whose been out with that kind of injury?
Who knows.
But for now, I won’t be taking the side of the 9ers until I see more from Purdy. Not that I don’t believe in him necessarily it’s just one of my many gambling rules.

4* Free Week 14 NFL Betting Prediction: Buccaneers ML +165
I am going to take a shot with Brady and the Bucs on the upset here. It’s a tough one to bank on I fully admit but I just don’t feel good about taking a rookie QB over this Bucs defence.
The risk is obviously that the 49ers d-line is the best in the league going against one of the worst offensive lines so the Bucs could end up stuck in the mud, but I am banking on more Tom Brady heroics.
