Here’s why I’m backing a Los Angeles ATS bet below in my Chargers Bills free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Chargers vs. Bills Gameday
The Los Angeles Chargers make their first road trip of the season Sunday to face the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM ET on FOX.
Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers arrive 0-2 after matching 26-14 losses to Arizona and Las Vegas. Los Angeles led the Raiders 17-14 in the third quarter last week before the offense stalled and Las Vegas took control.
That’s a fairly unpleasant way to start September.
The Chargers waited until Week 3 for their first road game, and naturally Josh Allen is waiting for them.
Buffalo is 2-0 under first-year head coach Joe Brady after beating Houston 36-31 and Detroit 41-31. The Bills have scored 77 points through two games, and Allen has accounted for nine touchdowns without throwing an interception.
So yes, the Chargers picked a relaxing place to chase win No. 1.

Buffalo won the most recent meeting 24-22 in December 2023, although Herbert missed that game. The Bills also beat Los Angeles 27-17 in 2020, making Sunday the first NFL matchup between Allen and Herbert.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Buffalo Bills Odds & Last 5
Buffalo is around a 7 to 7.5-point home favorite, with the Bills roughly -350 on the moneyline and Los Angeles around +280. The total has climbed into the 49.5 to 50.5 range.
The Chargers have scored exactly 14 points in each of their first two games.
They’ve moved the football in stretches, but finishing drives has been another matter. Herbert threw two interceptions against Las Vegas, and a late Chargers fumble helped kill any chance of another comeback.
Buffalo hasn’t had much trouble finding the end zone.
The Bills followed their 36-point opener at Houston with 41 against Detroit. Allen threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more against the Lions, while James Cook III rushed for 135 yards and another score.

Bills Stats
Buffalo’s offense has opened the season averaging 38.5 points and 427.5 yards per game. Allen has been responsible for a good chunk of the damage, but the Bills aren’t asking him to do everything himself.
Cook has rushed 34 times for 192 yards and a touchdown.
He broke loose for 135 yards on 21 carries against Detroit, averaging 6.4 yards per attempt. That balance matters against a Chargers defense preparing for Allen’s arm, designed quarterback runs and the usual collection of plays that somehow stay alive longer than they should.
Defending Allen is already a full-time job; Cook averaging 5.6 yards per carry isn’t exactly reducing the workload.
Allen has completed 40 of 60 passes for 582 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s also rushed for 92 yards and four touchdowns, with half of his 20 carries producing first downs.
Buffalo’s defense has been much less tidy.
The Bills have surrendered 31 points in each game, giving both Houston and Detroit chances to hang around. That matters with a touchdown-plus spread, even with Buffalo’s offense operating at this level.
Chargers Stats
Los Angeles is 0-2 after losing both home games by identical 26-14 scores. The Chargers haven’t been completely inept offensively, but 28 points through two weeks tells you how often promising possessions have gone nowhere.
Herbert has completed 32 of 54 passes for 401 yards and two touchdowns.
The bigger concern is three interceptions, including two against Las Vegas. Herbert also has been sacked six times, and Buffalo isn’t the opponent I’d choose for experimenting with obvious passing downs.
Omarion Hampton has given the Chargers 137 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Ladd McConkey has eight catches for 117 yards and a score.
Los Angeles also enters Buffalo thinner at tight end.
David Njoku was placed on injured reserve with a fibula injury, while Charlie Kolar underwent forearm surgery and did not practice Wednesday. The Chargers signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the active roster this week, giving Herbert another veteran target while the offense adjusts.
The defensive injury list deserves attention too.
Derwin James is dealing with a fractured finger but intends to play with a cast. Rashawn Slater, Tuli Tuipulotu and Cole Strange were among the limited participants early in the practice week, while Dalvin Tomlinson and Elijah Molden did not practice Wednesday.
Chargers vs. Bills QB Matchup
Josh Allen has started 2026 about as subtly as you’d expect. He’s thrown for 582 yards and five touchdowns without an interception while adding 92 rushing yards and four more scores.
Detroit got the full version last Thursday.
Allen threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns, then carried 14 times for 69 yards and two more scores. Keeping him in the pocket is difficult enough; getting him on the ground once he leaves it is another project entirely.
Justin Herbert hasn’t enjoyed the same opening two weeks.
The Chargers quarterback has thrown for 401 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 59.3% of his passes. He threw for 192 yards against Las Vegas but was intercepted twice as Los Angeles failed to finish another winnable game.

Herbert gets his first road start of the season in Buffalo.
He’ll need cleaner protection and fewer wasted possessions because Allen has punished both opponents for leaving the door open. The good news for Los Angeles is that Buffalo’s defense has allowed 62 points, so opportunities should exist.
Allen owns the hotter start.
Herbert still gives the Chargers enough quarterback talent to make seven points interesting.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Buffalo Bills bottom line: Buffalo has been the better team and Allen has been spectacular, but the Bills’ defense has left enough openings that Herbert and the Chargers should have opportunities to keep their first road game competitive.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Buffalo Bills Football Betting Trends

Chargers Bills Free Pick: Chargers +7
Here is my Chargers Bills free pick: I’m taking Chargers +7. Buffalo has looked every bit like a 2-0 team, but this number gives Los Angeles a full touchdown in a spot where desperation should finally show up.
The Chargers haven’t finished drives well enough, but Justin Herbert has still moved the ball against Arizona and Las Vegas. Buffalo has surrendered 31 points in both games, so this isn’t a defense I’m eager to lay a big number with.
Buffalo can absolutely win this game without making seven points feel cheap.
Josh Allen is the problem, obviously. He’s already accounted for nine touchdowns, and Los Angeles has to keep him from turning broken plays into 30-yard adventures.
Still, Herbert gives me enough QB to take the points, and the Bolts should be playing with some urgency at 0-2. Buffalo can stay perfect without running away from them.
Take the Chargers +7.
