This clash between AFC North rivals is going to be a battle. The Ravens have struggled in the third act of this season, albeit also due to missing Lamar to injury for much of it of course, but nevertheless they find themselves in a tooth and nail fight for a playoff berth.
They also have since relinquished the throne to the division to the Bengals but they still need the win, and so do the Bengals given their very unfortunate situation from last week due to the tragedy of Damar Hamlin whom I cannot stop thinking about while writing tonight.
The entirety of the situation is still somewhat unclear as of January 4th as the league is still shaking out how they can finish the season in an appropriate fashion. But no doubt, this game is also for bragging rights.
Baltimore Ravens
I haven’t covered the Ravens a ton this season and what has surprised me a ton while digging into their numbers for this is how damn good their defence is.
They are FIRST in the league in touchdowns allowed with 1.8 which is insane and would not have guessed it. They’re also third in points allowed at 18.0, and fourth in third down conversions allowed.
These are very impressive numbers considering they are not talked about among the elite defences of the NFL.
The story on offence is much different. The numbers are without doubt skewed without Lamar in the later stages this season but as a bettor it doesn’t matter and the news on him playing or not as far as I can tell is far from certain that he’s going to suit up.
In fact as of 5 hours ago he hasn’t practiced yet this week according to TSN.
Cincinnati Bengals
In stark contrast to Baltimore I have covered Cincinnati a ton this season as they are one of my favorite teams to watch and bet on.
The Bengals are just different, in a good way. They don’t seem as flashy as the Chiefs or Bills (which is weird to say given they have Chase and Burrow) but they are every bit as productive.
For whatever reason the Bengals struggle to defend in every part of the field other than the red zone. They aren’t terrible but their numbers for whatever reason are elite in the red zone and aren’t anywhere else.
Which isn’t entirely a bad thing, they give up a lot of field goals, but not a lot of touchdowns.
Now, a lot of what I was going to write about for this matchup was dependant on the result of the Bills game Monday night which was suspended for the aforementioned tragedy of Damar Hamlin collapsing on the field.
I want to finish this by saying, I commend (not that my praise really matters much) head coach Zac Taylor for his actions in that situation and how classy the Bengals players and fans were.
They had to witness the traumatic event also and kudos to them for being so respectful, and major props to the medical staff as well as it is seeming now with the current updates that their speedy response saved the mans life.

4* Free Week 18 NFL Betting Prediction: Ravens +7.0
If this thing moves I would keep my eye on it but I lean Ravens to cover this with how good their defence is and how much the Bengals defence allows people into their own territory.
I still think the Bengals will win, but this screams fight until the end to me.
