Finishing a season 3-12-1 and last in the division isn’t a successful bid by any stretch of the imagination. There was very few bright spots on the Lions’ roster last season. Their off-season hasn’t been one to drool over, but they have made moves that will improve their roster from a 3 win team. If they remain where they were last season, there will be drastic changes next season in Detroit.
2020 is a make or break season for the Lions as franchise altering changes may follow, depending on performance.
Here is a look at the best moves the Lions have made to this point and how said moves will improve their roster.
2020/21 NFL Team Predictions – Detroit Lions
- Detroit Lions 2021 Super Bowl Odds: +6600
- Lions Win Total NFL Odds: 6.5
- Lions NFC North Odds: +700
Key Free Agents Acquisitions
- Halapoulivaati Vaitai
- Jamie Collins
- Nick Williams
- Danny Shelton
- Desmond Trufant
Vaitai was signed to a 5 year deal with the Lions in a somewhat puzzling move. He showed promise with the Eagles and was bound to be a hot commodity this off-season, but for being somewhat unproven, 5 years with a $9 Million AAV is a tad high in my opinion.
Jamie Collins is perhaps the best singing the Lions have made thus far. He will rejuvenate the line backing corp in Detroit and will help in the pass and rush defense.
Nick Williams and Danny Shelton will sure up the middle of the defensive line. The Lions had trouble stopping the run last season and both Williams and Shelton will help greatly.
Trufant was a really nice second wave signing for the Lions. He will improve their secondary after losing Darius Slay. Their secondary won’t be as good as it was in 2019, but still, Trufant is a welcomed addition.
2020 Detroit Lions Predictions: Off Season Analysis
Losing Slay hurts. They also lost one of their best offensive linemen and their best interior lineman. So, their free agency was one that filled the holes that were voided. Two steps forward, one step back. I don’t think the Lions are greatly improved if at all. They have one of the most important drafts in Lions history coming up and can help their team greatly.
2020 Detroit Lions Win Total Prediction
An O/U of 6.5 is high, in my opinion. This team won 3 games last season and I don’t think their much better if at all. I think this team wins 4, maybe 5 games.
