2018 Buffalo Bills Predictions: Roster Changes
This is a team that was very good on the defensive side of the ball and pretty bad on the offensive side of the ball. So, what did the Bills do in the offseason? They upgraded their defense and their offense got worse.
The Buffalo Bills never seemed to be fully into Tyrod Taylor. Which is why Nate Peterman started over Taylor for a week and he was an absolute disaster. That almost cost them a spot in the playoffs.
The Bills have now fully moved on from Taylor and A.J. McCarron will get the shot to start for the Bills and Josh Allen will compete and I’m sure he’ll play sometime in 2018.

The Bills signed Chris Ivory, which at the time, was designed to be a change-of-pace back to LeSean McCoy. With McCoy’s off-the-field issues we’ll see what happens there, but Ivory might be leaned on a bit more than expected.
What Taylor did and probably wasn’t appreciated enough by the Bills was the fact that Taylor could escape, bye time, and make his offensive line better than what it seemed.
Now, granted, he did hold on the ball too long and take sacks he shouldn’t have taken, but when you put it all together, I think what Taylor brought was more of a net positive.
The line only got worse this offseason. Eric Wood and Richie Incognito both retired and the Bills traded away Cordy Glenn. The Bills really didn’t address these moves and the line just doesn’t look good and without an athletic quarterback, things look like they’ll be a challenge moving the ball.
Defensively, the Bills are better. The Bills signed Star Lotulelei and they drafted Harrison Phillips and Tremaine Edmunds.
Lotulelei will obviously make a big impact and should play at a pro bowl type level, so long as he stays healthy, of course. Phillips and Edmunds have the potential to make a big impact.
Phillips was a big time run stopper in college and Edmunds was a playmaker at linebacker running around the field. They are rookies and you have to expect hem to make some rookie mistakes. But, overall, they are potential big time players and should be in the future.
2018 Buffalo Bills Predictions: Offense
Now, the Buffalo Bills offense is built around LeSean McCoy and the running game. McCoy is involved in some off-the-field accusations that will have to be sorted out as the days, weeks, and months progress.
If the Bills won’t have McCoy, then this is a team that is going to have to look for other ways to generate offense.

As mentioned above, the offensive line is going to be a huge struggle and McCarron isn’t exactly a mobile quarterback. Will he have a quick enough release to avoid sacks? Will he avoid making the huge mistakes? We’ll have to see, but you have to expect that he won’t play as well as Taylor did last year.
Plus, who will he throw the ball to? The Bills made no upgrade to their wide receiver core. Zay Jones and Kelvin Benjamin are slated to start. Yeesh.
Across the board, the Bills are significantly worse than they were last year. And if McCoy isn’t available, boy oh boy, this is going to be a struggle.
2018 Buffalo Bills Predictions: Defense
Defensively, the Bills didn’t change much on the defensive side, but what they did change they upgraded. The Bills struggled a bit with their rushing and they upgraded that by signing Lotulelei and drafting Phillips.
Plus, the Bills still have Shaq Lawson, Kyle Williams, Jerry Hughes, and Trent Murphy. This is a defensive unit that is good two deep on the defensive line. Not many teams can boast that claim.
Edmunds will look to man the linebacking unit and we’ll see how he does his rookie year. Obviously, his upside is extremely high. Edmunds was a playmaker for the Virginia Tech Hokies flying all around the field making plays, making tackles.
The secondary looks to be a huge strength for the Bills. Vontae Davis, and Tre’Davious White are the starting corners and not many teams can say they have two top corners in the NFL.
With the NFL being a passing league, having two shutdown corners is huge and the Bills do have that.
2018 Buffalo Bills Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The strength and weakness of this team is obvious. It boils down to the Bills have a strong defense and the Bills have a weak offense.

2018 Buffalo Bills Prediction (Final Record): 6-10
It’s not an easy road for the Bills. Three of their first four games are on the road and their home game isn’t against the Los Angeles Chargers. At Baltimore, at Minnesota and at Green Bay isn’t exactly a road to success.
Now, if they don’t get off to a good start – which will probably happen – we may see the Bills go to Josh Allen and give the rookie some snaps. At home against the Tennessee Titans is a winnable game, but then on the road against Houston, Indianapolis, and at home against New England is another tough three game stretch.
They finish off with Chicago and New York before getting their bye. Their final six games is a pretty winnable stretch considering half those games are against the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets; the Detroit Lions have to come to Buffalo in December and Jacksonville not only is coming into Buffalo, but they get Buffalo as they are coming off the bye week.
When you put it all together, if the Bills finished the season at 8-8, that would be a fantastic year. It seems just about impossible that the bills will have a winning record.
Realistically, the Bills winning anywhere from five to seven games is a reasonable expectation. I’ve got the Bills winning six games. If they win all the games they are supposed to win and pull off a couple of upsets, maybe they can get to .500 and maybe have a winning record.
