The Wizards are closing in on the Southeast Division, which bugs me. I took the Heat to win it at +235 back when Miami was ahead and just before John Wall went down.
Since, Miami has lost a ton of one-possession games, including two to Sacramento, one to Orlando and another against the Lakers. The Wizards have played New Orleans without AD, Boston without Horford, Kyrie and Jaylen Brown and recently beat the Pacers without Myles Turner.
Washington’s win over Indiana tied the two teams for fourth place in the East. The Pacers have since won a game to take a half-game lead. Washington is set to play Indy in the first round but could easily jump all the way up to #3 or slide all the way down to #6.
Unless the Wiz is going to get all the way up to #3, it would probably like to avoid Cleveland in the first round. Home court would be ideal.
John Wall hopes to workout 5 on 5 soon and could be back in the next week or two, which is about when his original timetable had him out until.
There’s chatter about how Wall’s return will help or hurt the Wizards because it certainly helped the team when he was shutdown.
It depends on how much like his old self Wall will be. Will he have his explosiveness? His fearlessness? If he does, it’s going to be a huge lift for a team that’s done a great job to hold things together. If he isn’t, things could get back to being sloppy and lazy like they were before.
San Antonio Spurs
DeJounte Murray has set the new Spurs’ franchise record for rebounds by a point guard. He grabbed his 379th rebound of the season in more than 1200 less minutes than the previous record holder. That’s serious business.
Murray has gone through his ups and downs this season but he looks like a keeper and I think the Spurs realize that. When Kawhi Leonard does come back, even if it’s not until next year, those two are going to be a serious problem with their length defensively. San Antonio should be able to lock up the perimeter.
After falling out of the playoffs for a day, San Antonio has won four in a row. LaMarcus Aldridge nearly dropped 40 a few nights ago against the Timberwolves and the Spurs held the Warriors to 75 points in their last game.
Of course, the Warriors were missing everybody. Even Draymond Green left the game with an injury but the Spurs are back in the #5 spot in the standings and set to play the Thunder in the first round, as things are now.
