An extremely early Sunday start will feature the Washington Wizards and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Wizards will play their sixth ‘seeded’ game and are the only winless team remaining. The OKC Thunder are playing the front side of a back-to-back set and will finish versus the Phoenix Suns on Monday.
OKC is 2-2 in their ‘seeded’ schedule having covered all the options. They’ve lost and won clutch time games, and experienced both sides of blow-outs.
This is the second meeting between the clubs with the Wizards winning the October 25th match 97-85.
Washington Wizards
The first team to be eliminated in the NBA Disney bubble was the Washington Wizards. With no pressure on them, they could play free and loose. Lottery teams were locked prior to the bubble so losing won’t improve their position.
In fact, they now have a worse record from a win percentage perspective than the Charlotte Hornets but won’t reap the rewards for it.
The game that ended the Wizards’ play-in tournament hopes was the last match versus the Pelicans.
Four Wizards scored in double-figure with rookie Rui Hachimura leading the way (23 points). Troy Brown Jr. (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Ish Smith (18 points, 10 assists) both produced double-doubles while Thomas Bryant (21) was the other double-figure scorer.
Oklahoma City Thunder
While Sixth Man of the Year candidate Dennis Schroder is back home with his wife, son, and new baby girl the OKC Thunder has played three games winning once and losing twice.
They’ve looked extremely stilted without him and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, in particular, has struggled shooting 3 of 13 versus the Grizzlies and 3 of 11 versus the Nuggets.
The biggest issue is SGA seems to be struggling with keeping the ball moving and succumbs to iso-ball too frequently.
The team was also missing Steven Adams versus Memphis and felt his absence on both sides of the court. The screens Adams sets to clear the path to the bucket or provide wide-open shot opportunities was a major factor.
Chris Paul did his best to motivate his teammates or shift momentum leading the team with 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. All five starters reached double-figures but the 2-way play of Luguentz Dort stood out.
After a few poor shooting nights, he vowed to work on his shot to get it back on track and followed up in this game shooting 6 of 9 from the field and 4 of 5 from deep for 16 points.
NBA Betting Trends:
- OKC are 9-0 ATS in their last 9 Sun. games.
- Over is 17-7-1 in OKC last 25 games as a favorite.
- WAS are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 Sun. games
Free Washington Wizards vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction:
The loss to Memphis was the worst by the Thunder since a late February match on the second game of a back-to-back versus the Bucks. OKC seldom loses consecutive games so they’ll be looking to take care of business early to be rested for Monday versus the Suns.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Wizards +9
That said, the Thunder will not have Adams or Schroder again so they’ll need to be locked in defensively and play focused.
the Jazz losing to the Nuggets this is an opportunity to gain some ground on Utah and avoid a team (Denver) they don’t match up well against.
***NOTE*** In case you missed it…When the 2020 NBA 16-team playoff field is set, the NBA Playoffs will proceed in a traditional conference-based format with four rounds and best-of-seven series in each round. The 2020 NBA Finals will end no later than Oct. 13.
