Bit of a shocking result by the Wizards on Friday as they pounded the Mavericks. Knowing they are already eliminated made that effort all the more impressive.
Kristaps Porzingis wanted to make a statement and the support he got from his teammates shows how he’s been accepted by his new squad. He scored 24 points just missing a double-double with nine rebounds plus four assists, two steals, and a block.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was the Wizard player who took the lead in channeling the club’s best effort to collect the win on behalf of his new teammate Porzingis.
“We called up the huddle and I told him, ‘KP, since they let you go, we’re going to beat them up for you,’” Caldwell-Pope said. KCP delivered on his promise and led the Wizards with 35 points connecting on six 3-pointers adding four rebounds.
The quartet of Rui Hachimura (21), Deni Avdija (14), Ish Smith (12), and Anthony Gill (10) were the other Wizards to score in double-figures.
Kyle Kuzma (knee) and Vernon Carey Jr. (calf) were downgraded to out on Sunday. Bradley Beal (wrist) had season-ending surgery.
Boston Celtics
This is the Celtics’ final home game of the regular season as they finish on the road via a three-game road trip that takes them to Chicago, Milwaukee and Memphis.
That trio of clubs would typically offer a great test for the Celtics who are figuring out new lineups and who replace Robert Williams in specific situations and lineups. Williams will be out for up to six weeks.
The issue, of course, is that Daniel Theis and Al Horford while both capable don’t have the same physical ability as the Time Lord and that showed in their loss to the Heat.
Jayson Tatum (knee) is probable while Nik Stauskas (ankle) is out on Sunday versus the Wizards. Robert Williams II (knee) will be out between four and six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus.
