While the Thunder are in a funk, what they have going for them is their dominance of the Jazz and the fact it doesn’t behoove Utah to fight for wins when they are invested in tanking. Notably, they need to finish eighth or worst or the pick goes to… you guessed it … the Thunder!
While it might just be the dog days of winter catching up to the Thunder the recent regression does serve up some red flags. One is the play of Jalen Williams who is integrating back from wrist surgery and is struggling mightily from the perimeter. He also hasn’t been as aggressive attacking the paint.
It would’ve seemed like the third loss to the Spurs would’ve kicked the Thunder into gear but they continued to lose and struggle. However, the loss in such an embarrassing way to the Hornets will certainly have been the wakeup call needed.
Injuries are a factor as Isaiah Hartenstein, Jaylin Williams and three others are game time decisions.
Frequent readers know how much I abhor large spreads, but in this case and given the circumstances of their last loss I’m going with OKC to win and rout the Jazz.
