As can be seen, the Jazz are completing a back-to-back set to close the season having defeated the Nuggets 118-114 on Saturday while the Lakers defeated the Suns 121-107 on Friday.
At this time, the Jazz are 46-35 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 25-15 ATS as the away team. Additionally, the Lakers are 40-39-2 against the spread this season. Also, they are 21-18-1 ATS as the home team

All-time the Lakers hold the advantage winning 116 of 194 matches. Last season the teams played three times with the Jazz winning two of the three contests in the season series.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, on Saturday, April 8th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Sunday, April 9th.
After starting the season as the Cinderella crew, Danny Ainge made some trade deadline moves to bolster his draft closet and the Jazz began playing closer to preseason expectations.
That they miss the play-in tournament is no slight on this squad which Will Hardy has competing on a nightly basis.
On the positive side, Utah averages the eighth most points per game with 117.1 while they shoot 47.3% from the field and 35.4% from the perimeter ranking 19th in both efficiency categories.
Equally important, Jazz opponents score 117.9 points which ranks 24th while shooting 47.3% from the field and 36.1% from deep ranking 14th and 16th.
Note: since the Jazz played Saturday, the following are the presumed absences:
- Lauri Markkanen, SF (OUT —hand)
- Collin Sexton, PG (OUT —hamstring)
- Rudy Gay SG (OUT —back)
- Kelly Olynyk (OUT —rest)
- Jordan Clarkson PG (OUT —finger)
- Talen Horton-Tucker (OUT —ankle)
- Walker Kessler (OUT —concussion)
Los Angeles Lakers
Scanning the injury report it’s a bit odd the Lakers are listing both LeBron James and Anthony Davis as questionable in a must-win game. Maybe it’s a bit of posturing and chess moves by Darvin Ham on the final game of their schedule.
While the Lakers have played much better the loss to the Clippers is what they’ll be focused on because it led them to this match where they aren’t in full control of their destiny.
Winning is the priority because losing would mean they begin the play-in on the road as the eighth seed. LA is dependent on the Warriors losing to get out of the play-in – – which isn’t a very likely scenario given they play the G League Blazers.
And even if they win but the Warriors, Clippers and Pelicans win they still fall to the eighth seed.
On the negative side, LA allows opponents to score an average of 116.6 points per game ranking 20th. Their opponents shoot 46.8% from the field and 34.4% from behind the arc ranking eighth and second respectively.
Another key point is the Lakers score 117 points per game which rank ninth-best while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from the perimeter ranking 10th and 25th respectively.
To summarize the injury report…
- Anthony Davis (questionable—foot)
- LeBron James SF (questionable—foot)
- D’Angelo Russell PG (probable— hip)
- Dennis Schroder PG (questionable—right Achilles)

Free Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction:
While the automatic gut reaction is to think the Lakers will easily win this game the Jazz don’t roll over easily and probably would enjoy spoiling the Lake Show’s playoff positioning.
However, there is one factor that alters that thought process — and that came about with the Jazz winning in Denver on Saturday. Utah owns the tiebreaker against the Mavericks so if the Jazz beat the Lakers and Dallas loses on Sunday then it would negatively impact their lottery seeding.
Presumably, that’s not something the Jazz wants to toy with – although I’ll still take the points.
