Free Utah Jazz vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
Sunday, February 9th, Utah Jazz face the Houston Rockets in the clubs’ second meeting of the season.
Last season, the teams played four times splitting the series. The Jazz holds the all-time record having bested the Rockets in 105 of their 202 matches
Utah Jazz
The Jazz five-game losing streak came to an end Friday. The problem was it came via a controversial uncalled goaltend by Rudy Gobert on Damian Lillard.

Although Gobert admitted it was a goaltend he cautioned not to focus on that aspect since the Jazz fought back to erase a 16 point deficit.
Gobert delivered a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds while Bojan Bogdanovic led the Jazz scoring with 27 points. The quartet of Mike Conley (18), Donovan Mitchell (16), Joe Ingles (14) and Jordan Clarkson (13) also contributed double-digit efforts.
On the season, Donovan Mitchell is the team leader in scoring (24.3) and steals (1.1). Rudy Gobert tops the rebounding (14.4), field goal percent (68.9%) and block (2.0) categories while Joe Ingles dishes the most assists (5.0).
Ed Davis missed the Blazers game due to back spasms and remains questionable for Sunday.
Houston Rockets
The General Manager and Head Coach who focus the most on analytics is Daryl Morey and Mike D’Antoni of the Houston Rockets and they are clearly testing the boundaries of the concept of small ball figuratively and literally.
This because Morey traded his big men Clint Capela, Nene and even jettisoned Jordan Bell immediately upon receiving him as part of a trade package. His target was always to land Robert Covington which he accomplished.
Morey isn’t just pushing the envelope on positionless basketball he’s theoretically removing centers from the mix as his squad won’t feature players over 6’7″ and the 6’5″ PJ Tucker will be tasked as being the starting center.
So far the experiment has delivered wild highs and terrible lows. In the debut of the Rockets up-tempo small ball system, the Rockets shocked the Lakers defeating them 121-111. However, a night later, the Suns annihilated them 91-127.
Granted, Russell Westbrook was out for the second match due to load management.
In the loss, James Harden produced more than one-third of his team’s points (32) while Austin Rivers (14) and Ben McLemore (13) were the only other Rockets players to register double-figures.
The Suns outrebounded the Rockets 51 to 29 and outscored them in the paint 50 to 36. More importantly, Phoenix beat Houston at their supposed strength on the fast break (22 to nine) and perimeter where they shot 48.4 percent while holding the Rockets to 22.9 percent.
On the season, James Harden is the team leader in scoring (35.3), steals (1.7) and blocks (0.9). PJ Tucker tops the rebounding (7.1), while Russell Westbrook tops field goal percent (45.8%) and assists (7.3).
Eric Gordon had to leave the Sun match with a lower-leg injury and is questionable while newly acquired Bruno Caboclo (knee) won’t be available until the end of February.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Rockets are 7-3 in last 10 head to head
- The Rockets are 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10
- Over Under is 2-7-1 in team’s last 10 head to head matchups
Free Utah Jazz vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
Beating the Rockets relies on more than just size. Opponents need to play solid transition and perimeter defense while turning the copious extra rebounds into their own transition buckets.
I’m not sold on what we’ve seen out of the Jazz recently, but I’m also a bit skeptical about playing a game where you concede the glass.
