Friday, October 28th finds the Utah Jazz tipping off versus the Denver Nuggets for the second time this season. In the initial meeting, the Jazz shocked the Nuggets winning 123-102.
They’ll play twice more with Denver hosting on December 10th and Utah on April 8th. Both teams last played Wednesday with the Jazz defeating the Rockets (109-101) and the Nuggets beating the Lakers (110-99).

The early season shocker goes to the Utah Jazz for getting out of the gate strong and possessing a 4-1 record. This team was expected to be throwing games not fighting at the buzzer to steal those ‘W”s from teams who want to be playing in June.
I will suggest not jumping on the Jazz bandwagon just yet though because Danny Ainge didn’t trade Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and Bojan Bogdanovic with the objective of competing for a play-in seed instead of rebuilding.
No – Ainge pulled the plug hoping to be the winner of the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes. What that means is Ainge likely hasn’t finished with his deals.
For now, the Jazz’ success is playing into his hand because the value of Jordan Clarkson, Mike Conley, Kelly Olynyk, Collin Sexton, and Lauri Markkanen increases the more the Jazz win.
That might not mean all those players exit because this is also showcasing what the Jazz can expect from those individuals if they retain their services in the rebuild. And let’s be frank if Utah was to win the draft and get Wembanyama it wouldn’t be a long rebuild.
Udoka Azubuike (ankle) is probable for Friday. Collin Sexton (oblique) and Walker Kessler (illness) are questionable for Friday. Simone Fontecchio (illness) and Rudy Gay (illness) are out indefinitely
Denver Nuggets
It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for the Nuggets with some losses they’d like to get back including on opening night versus this Jazz team. Their other defeat was a rout to the Blazers but occurred in their third game in four nights.
Michael Malone is slowly reintegrating Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. with both having sat games as the team load manages them to ensure they stay as healthy as possible.
The Nuggets rank 16th offensively and a concerning 22nd defensively but my guess is they’re playing down to their competition and I”db e shocked if they don’t rise into the top 10 offensively and closer to the middle range defensively in the coming weeks.
Michael Porter Jr. was rested Wednesday in what the team defined as injury management but is probable to play Friday. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope twisted his ankle versus the Lakers and is questionable for Friday as is Davon Reed (personal). Collin Gillespie (leg) is out indefinitely.
