Monday, March 21st, 2022, the Utah Jazz and Brooklyn Nets meet for the second and final time this season. The Jazz won the initial meeting 125-102 on February 4th
The Jazz last played on Sunday defeating the Knicks 108-93 while the Nets have been off since Friday following a 128-123 versus the Trail Blazers.
Last season, the squads played twice with each club winning on their home court. The Jazz holds the all-time record having bested the Nets 63 of their 95 matches.
Utah Jazz
It’s a back-to-back set for Utah as they arrive on the high from the win versus the cross-town rivals of the Nets. Although the Jazz won the match and are 6-4 in their last 10 matches they haven’t looked like a team the other Western teams will be afraid to play.
Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert continue to be the main cogs of the offense and defense but they aren’t as dominant as they were last season and will enter the postseason with something to prove.
Barring a deep run in the postseason, this core is likely to get split up, and with Danny Ainge now in Utah, it’s a safe bet he’s willing to make big moves in the offseason if Utah fails to reach the Western Conference Finals (at a minimum).
Making matters worse the core starters have each spent time on the injury list with Gobert only recently returning and now both Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic are dealing with injuries.
What makes them seem susceptible is they have a tendency to fall into stagnancy on the offensive end when the 3-pointer isn’t falling. As for the defensive end of the court aside from Gobert and Royce O’Neale, they don’t have a ton of defensive talent.
Of their remaining 11 games five will test them starting with this match and including contests versus the Celtics, Mavericks, Warriors, and Suns assuming those teams don’t start resting members of their core as they gear up for the postseason.
Trent Forrest (wrist), Conley (knee), Bogdanovic (wrist), Danuel House (knee), and Udoka Azubuike (ankle) are all questionable for Monday versus the Nets.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets enter week 22 with 11 games left on their schedule including four road games with Kyrie Irving only able to play in three of them. They’ve won five of their last six games although four of those contests were against lower-tier teams (Hornets, Magic, Knicks, Blazers).
Kevin Durant is carrying the load and will need some help in order for Brooklyn to make a deep post-season run. The worst thing that could happen to the Nets would be if they end up with the seventh seed and the red-hot Celtics keep rising and finish second.
Boston has the defensive chops to beat them and if they were to get out of that series it would still be a very tough road just to reach the Conference Finals. Also, the uncertainty of when Ben Simmons will actually be able to play has to be a concern.
The presumption is Simmons will be able to play in the last two matches with both games in Brooklyn which means he wouldn’t play a game with Irving before the play-in tournament.
Kyrie Irving (eligibility) is out on Monday. LaMarcus Aldridge (hip) and Ben Simmons (conditioning/back) are out indefinitely. Joe Harris (ankle) is lost for the season.

Free Utah Jazz vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
Since the Nets won’t have Irving the focus for Utah will be slowing or limiting Durant. Conversely, the Nets who have been using a lot more zone lately won’t be able to do so against the Jazz unless they have an uncharacteristically poor shooting night from the perimeter.
Brooklyn has the rest advantage but this should be a close contest.
