Friday, April 1st the Toronto Raptors and the Orlando Magic meet for third and final time this season. Toronto won the initial match 110-109 on October 29th while the Magic won the March 4th contest 103-97.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Raptors thumping the Wolves 125-102 while the Magic got pummelled 110-127 by the Wizards.
The teams have played a total of 94 occasions in their history with the Raptors winning 54 contests. Last season, the clubs played three times, with the Raptors sweeping the series over the Magic.
Toronto Raptors
While the Boston Celtics have been on fire since the calendar turned to 2022 winning 30 games and going on a run of 24-4 during this stint something that may have gone unnoticed is the team with the next best record in this period is the Raptors.
They’ve collected 29 wins which becomes even more impressive considering OG Anunoby missed significant time and Fred VanVleet has been in and out of the lineup and playing through a sore knee that has him functioning at less than 100 percent.
That wasn’t the case on Wednesday when VanVleet and Anunoby both were playing to their strengths. VanVleet forced 11 turnovers and registered five steals.
Anunoby joined Gary Trent Jr. and the sudden breakthrough of 3-point efficiency from Precious Achiuwa to collect 13 deep balls out of 19 attempts.
Achiuwa shot one deep ball last season missing it but is up to 36.1 percent on the season and 41 percent since the All-Star break. Trent Jr. led the way with 29 points in the victory versus the Wolves while Anunoby scored 22.
Minnesota was running double and triple teams at Pascal Siakam who pivoted to become the primary playmaker registering a career-best 13 assists on route to a triple-double that included 10 rebounds and 12 points.
Nick Nurse also pulled Scottie Barnes out early in the first half and started Achiuwa after the break to deal with Karl-Anthony Towns.
The rookie didn’t sulk and following a poor first half (4 points, one rebound, one assist, two turnovers) he came off the bench to finish with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block.
Yuta Watanabe (quad) is questionable for Friday versus the Magic. Malachi Flynn (hamstring) remains out indefinitely.
Orlando Magic
With tanking the main goal of the Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley has been creative in recent games. Against the Cavaliers, the Magic was simply playing too well so he sat his core for the final nine-plus minutes of the contest to ensure the loss.
We’ll see if Orlando treats Toronto with the same courtesy since they’re fighting with the Cavaliers (and Bulls) for the fifth, sixth and seventh seeds in the East obviously with the goal of staying above the play-in berths.
Wendell Carter Jr. (wrist) is questionable while Jalen Suggs (ankle) was downgraded to out Friday. Jonathan Isaac (knee), and Bol Bol (foot) are out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Toronto is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games.
- Orlando is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 11 of Toronto’s last 16 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 6 of Orlando’s last 9 games.

Free Toronto Raptors vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:
Every team wants to build momentum down the stretch to carry into the postseason and the Raptors are doing precisely that. Nick Nurse finally has his team relatively healthy and with that, they’re functioning well on both sides of the court.
The bench which has struggled all season is suddenly looking stronger probably due to the addition of Thaddeus Young who has looked sharp in the most recent matches.
