In what could be a preview of the Eastern Conference Final the Toronto Raptors play the Cleveland Cavaliers. Toronto beat the Magic Tuesday while Cleveland beat Milwaukee in an important inter conference win.
Last season, the squads played four times with the Cavaliers winning three. Toronto took the initial matchup this season in a blow out of the Cavs at the ACC. The Cavaliers hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 46 of their 84 matches.
The Raptors 11 game win streak came to an end Sunday at the hands of the Thunder and the whistle of Marc Davis. Despite the loss, Toronto maintained a five game advantage over the Celtics who also lost (Pelicans) and increased it with the Orlando win of Orlando.
Toronto thumped the Cavaliers in their only meeting this season (without Kyle Lowry or Serge Ibaka playing), but it was the pre- trade iteration.
Each squad will want to win the series to have the psychological edge in case they meet in the postseason. In fairness the Raptors play the night prior while Cleveland had Tuesday off.
Prior to the game Tuesday in Orlando the Raptors record on first nights of back to back sets was 8-3 and a similar 7-4 in the second game.
Fred VanVleet (wrist contusion) missed last two and DeMar DeRozan (leg contusion) sat Tuesday. Raptors hopes both return Wednesday. VanVleet’s contributions were noticeably missing vs. OKC Sunday, particularly with Kyle Lowry in foul trouble all day.
Initial reports out of Cleveland regarding Head Coach Ty Lue are he is taking a brief hiatus from the team to deal with ongoing, undiagnosed health issues. It’s not a stretch to consider chest pains and lack of sleep as sign of stress.
Offsetting the Lue absence the Cavs got positive news as Kevin Love returned to the court one week earlier than projections. His return paid immediate dividends in the win over the Bucks with LeBron James undoubtedly happy to have another scorer back on the hardwood.
In limited minutes Love produced a double-double of 18 points and 7 rebounds. Meanwhile, James registered another triple-double of 40 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds.
Three Cavaliers are questionable for Wednesday’s game. Rodney Hood (back), Larry Nance Jr. (hamstring) and Cedi Osman (hip strain).
Tristan Thompson (ankle) is expected out until the end of March.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Raptors are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games.
- Cleveland is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
- Over Under is 7-3 in team’s last 10 head to head matchups
Free Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction:
Since March 6 this game marks the Raptors tenth game, third set of back to backs as well as two matinee games. In the same period the Cavaliers have played two fewer games (8), no back to back sets, but recently returned from a season long six game road trip.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Raptors -1
Despite this the oddsmakers favor the Raptors and their balanced game versus the Cavaliers porous defense, as do I.
NBA Free Score Prediction: Raptors 109 – Cavaliers – 103
