The second game of the first-round series between the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors had a completely different plotline but precisely the same ending. In the third game of the series, the Nets will seek to change the outcome while the Raptors look to take a stranglehold on moving to the next round.
Toronto Raptors
As expected Kyle Lowry was much sharper in the second game shooting 50 percent both from the field (7 of 14) and the perimeter (3 of 6) for 21 points.
He filled up the stat sheet with nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, a block, and played critical defense on the pivotal play of the game.
Specifically, Lowry forced Joe Harris into a turnover leading to the steal by Norman Powell and breakaway dunk to put the Raptors up 104-99 and give the Raptors a 2-0 lead in the series.
Whether it was the super early start or just the Nets intensity this was a game that required ‘winning ugly’. Toronto shot 50 percent from deep in Game 1 but only 25.7 percent in Game 2.
Fred VanVleet delivered another double-double of 24 points and 10 assists. Powell was the x-factor with 24 off the bench while Pascal Siakam had 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal, and block.
Brooklyn Nets
An impressive bounce-back game from the Nets where they jumped on the Raptors from the tip and other than a brief section in the second quarter held the lead until the eight-minute mark of the final frame.
Caris LeVert was the main playmaker again with another double-double of 16 points and 11 assists. Scoring was tough as Siakam, Anunoby, and VanVleet held him to 5 of 22 from the field.
All five starters registered double-figure scoring with GarrettTemple (21) leading the way while both Jarrett Allen and Joe Harris produced identical double-doubles of 14 points and 15 rebounds.
It has to be somewhat disheartening to play that hard and then have a tiny segment of the game erase all that effort. To that end, the Nets suffered a set back as Joe Harris had to leave the bubble for personal reasons which means he’ll miss Friday and Sunday’s games at a minimum.
That will put more pressure on LeVert, Allen, and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot.

Free Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
Coaching savant Nick Nurse demonstrated his prowess throwing out different defensive schemes to hold the Nets under 100 points and per usual followed his gut on the right lineup at precisely the right time.
To wit, the closing unit of Lowry, VanVleet, Powell, Anunoby, and Siakam played all of two minutes this season but Nurse had a feeling.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Raptors -10
Jacques Vaughan has earned the right to coach the Nets team next season via his bubble efforts. His adjustments were spot on but the Raptors are simply too large a hurdle to overcome.
Unfortunately for Vaughan, Toronto also compete wire to wire regardless of the score but have more talent and experience. Moreover, Allen’s postgame message his team could win whenever they wanted offers perfect Raptors chalkboard motivation.
The spread feels a bit heavy but without Harris, the Nets will have a steep mountain to climb.
***NOTE*** In case you missed it…When the 2020 NBA 16-team playoff field is set, the NBA Playoffs will proceed in a traditional conference-based format with four rounds and best-of-seven series in each round. The 2020 NBA Finals will end no later than Oct. 13.
