Wednesday, February 16th, finds the San Antonio Spurs facing the OKC Thunder for the third of four occasions this season.
The teams split their two prior matches with OKC winning 99-94 on November 7th while San Antonio prevailed 118-96 on January 19th. The Spurs will host the final meeting between the clubs on March 16th.
Both teams last played Monday with the Spurs losing 109-120 to the Bulls while the Thunder battled the Knicks winning 127-123 in overtime.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Thunder winning two of the three games in the season series. The Spurs hold the all-time record with 98 wins in 179 matches versus the Thunder.
San Antonio Spurs
Spurs guard Dejounte Murray was selected as the replacement for Draymond Green in the All-Star Game to the resounding approval of fans and analysts.
He’s having an incredible season and impacting winning although the win column may not accurately reflect that comment. He’s averaging 20 points, 8.3 rebounds, 9.4 assists and 2.1 steals is a quality defender and just needs to add a 3-pointer to become a bonafide superstar.
With the Spurs so uncharacteristically active at the deadline it seems like they are fully invested in finding another young cornerstone talent that will propel San Antonio back into the conversation as elite teams in the West.
Tre Jones (knee) is doubtful to play Wednesday versus the Thunder. Goran Dragic (personal) is away from the team likely awaiting a buyout.
OKC Thunder
Josh Giddey will head to Cleveland following this match to participate in the Clorox Rising Stars rookie/sophomore challenge as part of Team Worthy (James Worthy).
He’ll be busy in Cleveland also participating in All-Star Saturday night joining fellow rookies Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes on the rookie team participating in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge.
They’ll face the Antetokounmpo Brothers and a trio of Cavaliers (Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen). The event and been revamped with separate shooting, passing, and timed relay.
My money is on this rookie team who feature the best passers and I think they’ll surprise in the shooting portion.
Giddey arrives to the event as one of the hottest rookies having posted back-to-back triple-doubles with his 28 points (career-best) 11 rebounds, 12 assists effort in MSG arguably his best rookie performance this season.
Ty Jerome (hip) and Kenrich Williams (knee) are both out Wednesday versus the Spurs. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (ankle) will be out until after the All-Star break while Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (foot) and Mike Muscala (ankle) are out indefinitely.

Free San Antonio Spurs vs. OKC Thunder NBA Prediction:
Of all the teams seeded outside the play-in spots, these are the two you can’t take for granted. They fight to the final horn and have stolen more than a few games because teams underestimated their heart which should result in a quality match tonight.
I like the Spurs to win but I’m taking the points and the Thunder to keep it close.
