Should we be asking ourselves if we’re doubting a team that can actually stay competitive? Odds are, no, this team won’t sustain this kind of success long-term. But right now, the roster is young enough to ride the momentum without thinking about the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery.
Against the Spread, San Antonio has been nearly perfect this season. It’s only loss came on opening night against the Charlotte Hornets when they entered +1 but fell in ugly fashion, 129-102. Since then, the Spurs have been +1.5 in a three-point win, and they were also +13.5 in a nine-point win. Those are on top of Monday’s results vs. Minnesota.
You have to expect a regression to the expected at some point, but riding momentum against a team that might be dealing with controversy helps their case.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Karl-Anthony Towns made a public comment after Monday’s loss about Anthony Edwards’ diet. Rudy Gobert apparently “Liked” a tweet where someone said the Gobert Trade will go down in history as the worst trade in NBA history.
For better context, Gobert is surely using that as bulletin board material, not agreeing with it. That should be obvious. But the early-season rough start puts everything under the microscope, and it brings a team like Minnesota that’s usually quite sleepy on the national media front into the common fan’s attention span in a negative light.
The Timberwolves will figure it out. Like San Antonio, you can expect a balancing of the universe before too long. But right now, it’s tough to trust this group. This feels like a rough patch where things can correct themselves quickly, but figuring out what holes were actually created and not filled with the Gobert trade is important.

As much as that would help them start to turn things around, I think the ‘Wolves get the win but in tighter fashion. I like Minnesota to come away with an important win straight up, but the team hasn’t show me what I need to see to project a double-digit W.
