Sunday, March 20th, finds the San Antonio Spurs playing the Golden State Warriors for the third of four matches this season. The teams split the prior two meetings with the Spurs winning the initial meeting on December 4th (112-107) and the Warriors winning February 1st (124-120).
The Spurs last played Friday and got pummelled 91-124 by the Pelicans while the Warriors have been off since Wednesday when they lost to the Celtics 88-110 with Stephen Curry getting injured in the second quarter.
Last season the clubs played three times with Golden State taking two of the three contests. The Spurs hold the all-time record with 113 wins in 177 matches versus the Warriors.
San Antonio Spurs
With Pops reaching the major coaching milestone last week the Spurs set their sights on making the play-in tournament to get their young roster some experience. It seems unlikely at the moment with the Pelicans 2.5 games up on them but it’s still highly feasible.
Losing to the Pels on Friday wasn’t ideal but they are still in the mix.
Josh Richardson (calf) and Keita Bates-Diop (back) are questionable while Lonnie Walker (back), Romeo Langford (hamstring), and Devontae Cacok (heel) are all downgraded to out on Sunday versus the Warriors. Doug McDermott (ankle) is lost for the season.
Golden State Warriors
Just as Draymond Green returned to the court the Warriors lose Stephen Curry to a foot sprain and what the team is saying will keep the sniper out likely until just prior to the postseason beginning.
It’s disappointing for the team as these final games were going to provide time for head coach Steve Kerr and the big three of Curry, Green and Thompson to get back into a rhythm.
With Andre Iguodala only playing once in the last 25 games it felt like the team was keeping him in bubble wrap to ensure he’d be ready to go for the postseason. The question is whether the Dubs will ramp up his return with Steph out in order to secure the second seed (or third).
Despite all these injuries to the elder core Golden State oddly benefitted as it offered more playing time for rookies Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. Now as they ramp up their efforts to build going into the postseason that duo will get to play more with Green
That’s important as many players on this roster have limited to no playoff experience. This next segment also afford Kerr a chance to try out a few different lineups.
Andrew Wiggins (illness), Gary Payton II (knee), and Nemanja Bjelica (illness) were upgraded to probable, Moses Moody (shoulder) is questionable while Andre Iguodala (back) is doubtful for Sunday.
Stephen Curry (foot) will be out indefinitely and James Wiseman (knee) is working his way back from injury appearing in games with G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Free San Antonio Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Both teams have lengthy injury reports but it’s a bonus for the Dubs who’ll get a chance to discover what Green, Thompson, Wiggins, and Poole can do in Curry’s absence. That said I like the points and the Spurs
