San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs beat the Hawks on Tuesday night in Atlanta to keep pace with Oklahoma City at the bottom of the Western Conference playoff picture. DeMar DeRozan scored 29 to lead all scorers and Derrick White had 23.
Both San Antonio and Oklahoma City are 45–33 with four games remaining, tied for the seventh seed. The team that emerges will likely face Denver, while the one that finishes eighth may get a first round date with Golden State.

Since winning nine in a row, following a three-game skid out of the All-Star Break, San Antonio has just won three out of its last seven, including last night’s win.

This is the big game for San Antonio. Three of its last four games are on the road but the two after this one are against Washington and Cleveland. If the Spurs can find a way to win this game on the back-to-back, they would be set up well to beat out OKC and grab the seventh seed.
The Thunder, meanwhile, finish vs. Detroit, at Minnesota, and then with a back-to-back, first vs. Houston and then at Milwaukee.
Denver Nuggets
DeMarcus Cousins had 28 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists on Tuesday night at Oracle and the Warriors beat the Nuggets, 118–102, to take a two-game lead for the top spot in the Western Conference.
Nikola Jokic had a quiet night for Denver, scoring just 10 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. No Nugget played more than 29 minutes and only Cousins and Steph Curry played 30 for Golden State. Both teams are managing fatigue in anticipation of a long playoff run.

So now the Warriors have the inside track to the top seed in the West, only needing to protect a two-game lead with five to play to have home court advantage until, potentially, the Finals. Golden State didn’t even have Cousins, nor the home court in last year’s title run.
Denver is completely healthy with the obvious exception of Michael Porter Jr., who hasn’t been healthy in over two years now. Jamal Murray was listed as questionable for the game in Golden State but he played and should be ok going forward, though Mike Malone would love to get him some rest down the stretch. The Nugs are two games clear of both Portland and Houston.
