San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have lost three in a row since scoring 157 in a double-overtime road victory over Washington: one in Miami, another in Memphis, and a third back at home against the Kings.
Now the Spurs get back on the road to wrap up their two-game season series with Charlotte, which won the first game in San Antonio back in December.
The Spurs have parted ways with a few rotation players since then, including Derrick White and Bryn Forbes.
They haven’t added as many pieces, instead tightening up the rotation with more minutes for Devin Vassell, Lonnie Walker and Tre Jones.
Joshua Primo, the number 12 pick to the Spurs in last year’s NBA Draft, has cracked Gregg Popovich’s rotation since the new year.
San Antonio is the second team out of the Western Conference play-in tournament, 2.5 games behind New Orleans, which occupies the 10-seed.
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets are currently ninth in the East, which would pit them against Atlanta in a play-in scenario, as the standings are today.
They blew-out the Cavaliers as road underdogs on Wednesday, 119–98.
Terry Rozier posted 27/7/7; Miles Bridges scored an efficient 17; and Kelly Oubre Jr. shot it well to finish with 19 points off the bench.
Charlotte’s two starting bigs, PJ Washington and Mason Plumlee, also shot efficiently, going 7-for-8 from the field.
Isaiah Thomas played 14 minutes in his team debut after signing a 10-day contract. He wasn’t shy and scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds, threw three assists and recorded two steals.
LaMelo Ball only played eight minutes and it was not due to injury. He got in early foul trouble and finished with four personals. The Hornets didn’t seem to miss him.
Ball didn’t play when Charlotte won in San Antonio in December. Gordon Hayward did, however, and he scored 41.
Hayward didn’t play against Cleveland (his ninth consecutive missed game) and is out indefinitely with an ankle injury.
