This is a situation where both of these teams are playing on Friday night. This will be the first back to back of the season for both teams.
The Kings had some buzz coming into the year but got dubbed by Phoenix. They were supposed to be a tier or two ahead of the Suns.
Utah is also getting buzz as a true title contender. It took them a while to warm up and beat a spunky OKC team.
Sacramento Kings
Sacramento improved last season and are trying to get back into the playoffs this year. They are not off to a good start.
They brought in coach Luke Walton which was an interesting call given that the team seemed pointed in the right direction. If it doesn’t work he is probably done in the league.

It was ugly to get beat the way they did in Phoenix but it hurt too. Marvin Bagley, expected to lead the team in scoring and rebounding injured his thumb and is likely out til December.
Buddy Hield, who led the team with 28 points is already dinged up too and might miss their game on Friday night against Portland.
Those are their two most reliable scorers and if they are no available this teams looks pretty ordinary pretty quickly. There is a lot to like about PG De’Aaron Fox but he is not a great scorer yet.
Harrison Barnes can do a lot of things well but he is more of a complimentary piece. Ditto for Bogdan Bogdanovic. He looked awful in the opener.
Sacramento is not doomed to another losing season, yet, but they are not in a great spot right now.
Utah Jazz
Utah got a win in their opener and a chance to play with their new toys a little bit. They should have won by more but this is what we saw.

Donovan Mitchell led the way with 32 points and 12 rebounds. That is a very good sign but new PG Mike Conley could not have played worse. He made just one shot and picked up five fouls. He was outplayed by fellow newcomer Emmanuel Mudiay. There is no reason to panic though. Its just one game.
Bojan Bogdanovic scored 16 points while not shooting it great from the floor. They had him at a starting forward spot with Joe Ingles coming off the bench. Their games might be too similar to play together.
This will be their third game of the season and I expect we will get a better sense of how the pieces will fit together. There is no reason to be worried about Conley, who is a proven vet. With Sacramento a little weakened they should be more than fine in this spot.

It is hard when you don’t know the line but this is a very bad spot for the Kings. They are already shorthanded and playing against a veteran team in a tough environment.
The more the Jazz play together the better they will be. That might sound cliche but I think these pieces will fit together well and they will get even more out of stalwarts Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.
