Monday, February 28th, finds the Sacramento Kings facing the OKC Thunder for the fourth and final time this season. OKC won the initial match on November 12th (105-103) while Sacramento won the matches on December 28th (117-111) and February 5th (113-103).
Sacramento returned from the break to face the Nuggets in consecutive matches losing both while the Thunder last played Friday defeating the Pacers 129-125 in overtime.
Last season the clubs played three times with Sacramento sweeping the regular-season series. The Thunder hold the all-time record with 149 wins in 244 matches versus the Kings.
Sacramento Kings
For a club who reformulated their roster mid season in order to improve and make a run at the play-in tournament the Kings sure aren’t looking like a team bound for the post season.
Rather they appear intent on returning to the lottery for the 16th time in a row. YIKES!

Sure the addition of Domantas Sabonis was solid but while it filled the needs of having a star big man (the one position the Kings always seem to covet more than any other) but what they had to give up to get him only served to expose other areas of weakness.
Specifically, the floor spacing now isn’t great because losing both Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton removed two of their better 3-point shooters and their best play maker (with apologies to De’Aaron Fox).
Richaun Holmes (back) is questionable for Monday. Terence Davis (wrist) is out indefinitely.
OKC Thunder
Unlike the Kings the Thunder are quite content to be out of the race for the play-in with Sam Presti frequently checking out his hoarde of draft picks and pontificating on what players he covets and would give up some of those picks to acquire.
Yet, those moves will occur down the road the question is whether that would be a year from now or several. This is a small market but they’ve only ever missed the playoffs three times in franchise history with this season being the first time they’ll do it in consecutive years.
Having witnessed what two other small markets have accomplished this season (Grizzlies and Cavaliers) Presti may have designs on a shorter stint out of the postseason.
They’ve got a quality backcourt duo with Josh Giddey (already proving some critics wrong about his selection) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Consider where this club would be if Presti had gotten his real dream accomplished this past offseason by landing both Evan Mobley and Giddey.
OKC would have four players (including Dort) along with two quality reserves (Kenrich Williams and Ty Jerome) and be much closer to being competitive.
Suffice to say – this Thunder team has designs on landing one of the top three draft picks this year and will likely do almost anything to get to that selection spot especially since it’s big men who’ll be the cream of the crop from this class.
Josh Giddey (hip), Ty Jerome (hip), Kenrich Williams (knee), Luguentz Dort (shoulder) are all questionable for Monday. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (foot) and Mike Muscala (ankle) are out indefinitely.

Free Sacramento Kings vs. OKC Thunder NBA Prediction:
The combination of the Kings desperately needing a win and Presti needing his club to stop winning should result in the Kings getting their first win post All-Star break.
